DISCOVER HOW LANDOWNERS CAN BECOME BJF PARTNERS, COMPLY WITH THE BRAZILIAN FOREST CODE, AND MORE!

SOME OF OUR MAIN SPONSOR PARTNERS

The Black Jaguar Foundation (BJF) is working to realize the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor through ecological restoration.

The BJF is a non-profit organization whose main purpose is ecological restoration. Together with local farmers, we are realizing the longest biodiversity corridor in the world: the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor.
Through ecological restoration, we are creating and connecting fragments of native vegetation along 2600km of the Araguaia River.
Initially, the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor was only going to include rural properties within 20 kilometres of each site of the riverbanks. Nevertheless, landowners with properties
2600 km long
40 km wide
beyond this limit are showing significant interest in our mission. For this reason, we have decided to further expand the scope of our project.
The BJF positions itself as the main partner for landowners in the Corridor, assisting them throughout the entire process of restoration, focussing on the areas that should be protected by the Brazilian Forest Code.
We strive to show that the agricultural sector in Brazil can be aligned with the preservation of our ecosystems.
The Brazilian Forest Code is governed by law nº 12.651, established on the 25th of May in 2012. It elaborates on two important instruments: The Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) and the Environmental Regulation Program (PRA).
A mandatory national public environmental registry for the integration of environmental information of all rural properties.
ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION PROGRAM (PRA)
A set of actions and initiatives to be developed by rural landowners and users to adapt and promote environmental compliance with the Forest Code.
DO YOU KNOW WHICH STEP OF ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE YOUR PROPERTY IS IN?

We offer all the technical, financial, and legal support, as well as the local workforce to make the ecological restoration happen.
The Black Jaguar Foundation understands that ecological restoration can be a complex activity for the landowner. That’s why BJF offers complete support to carry out the restoration.
The landowner becomes a true partner of the BJF and is only responsible for making available the labour and agricultural equipment that they already own.

RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE PACKAGE OFFERED BY THE BJF
1. Ecological restoration project
2. Fertilizer, agrochemicals, and other supplies
3. Technical knowledge and qualified support
4. Maintenance and monitoring
1. Labour 2. Equipment
The Black Jaguar Foundation’s technical team is present in all stages that involve the environmental suitability of your property. Find out how we carry out the processes of ecological restoration below.
We analyse the information outlined in the Rural Environmental Registry to identify whether the registration was carried out in compliance with the Forest Code. This enables us to identify whether there are environmental liabilities, with regards to the Permanent Preservation Areas and Legal Reserves.
After presenting a report of the analysis of the Rural Environmental Registry carried out through satellite images, our engineers go into the field to identify the accuracy of these estimates, such as the environmental deficits, environmental characteristics of the soil and the restoration methodology that needs to be applied.

At this stage, we begin preparing the terms for the rural partnership, outlining the agreement between the Black Jaguar Foundation and the landowner.
With the agreement ready, ecological restoration of the rural property can start in the closest rainy season. The Black Jaguar Foundation is responsible for carrying out all the restoration – including technical support, operational activities, providing supplies, and the planting itself.
The Black Jaguar Foundation’s restoration work goes beyond planting trees. That’s why we offer 3 years of maintenance and care, and 17 years of monitoring of the restored areas.
In addition to all the planning that precedes planting, after the seedlings are in the ground, we need to guarantee an environment in which they can grow and generate healthy and functional ecosystems, for the long term.
Keeping in mind how challenging it is to ensure the survival of a forest, our team also always completes three years of maintenance and care. This allows us to address interventions by
fauna, destruction caused by ants, and flooding; to name a few challenging factors.
After these 3 years, the Black Jaguar Foundation still follows a monitoring protocol for another 17 years, to complete the 20-year cycle of restoration required by the Environmental Regularization Program in the Forest code and to make sure that we create long term sustainable impact.

Ecological restoration brings numerous benefits not only to the environment, but also to the rural property itself. Discover some of the advantages of becoming a partner of the Black Jaguar Foundation:
Easier access to rural credits and programs that stimulate agricultural production.
Conservation of water resources inside the property (springs, rivers and lakes), rain cycle regulation.

Being in compliance with environmental law; PRADA (Project of the Restoration of Degraded Areas).
Increasing air humidity, reducing extreme heat in the field, increasing the natural pollination by insects and birds.
Since the beginning of our activities, we have sought to employ the workforce and hire services from suppliers in the Araguaia region with the aim of boosting the local economy and improving the quality of life of local populations.
The Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor involves a large number of people and companies.
In addition to the workforce needed to carry out planting activities, we also need employees dedicated to administrative and logistical demands, as well as companies capable of providing all the materials and inputs required for the progress of the project. From agricultural machinery to feeding our field team, we are an organisation in which every different part is extremely important.
Since the beginning of our activities, we have been employing local labour and suppliers, because we believe that, in addition to the benefits to the environment, we have a responsibility to generate a positive social impact on the lives of people in the Araguaia region.
Over the last three years, we have invested more than € 1.1 million in the regions encompassed by the Araguaia Biodiversity Corridor. As our existing number of rural partnerships grows, investments in the region increase. Have a look at our numbers:

In our project, we create win-win-win partnerships.

Complying with environmental regulations in a subsidized and technically supported way.

Revitalizing ecosystem services, creating jobs and income.

Fulfilling the Forest Code’s requirements while promoting local economic and social development.
