Applefest ‘Drive-in’ Concert Series 2020

Applefest should be celebrating its 14th year at the historic Buckstop Junction, but this year like so many other events, due to the pandemic things will look different. Organizers of Applefest say, amid safety concerns surrounding the coronavirus, this year’s event will consist of a ‘drive in concert’ at the Bismarck Community Bowl along with various virtual events people can take part in throughout the week. Applefest organizer, Melissa Klein says, due to safety concerns surrounding the corona virus, this year’s event will have to be a socially distanced event, “We have been brainstorming and listening to staff ideas and we want to be able to hold an in-person, safe event. So we decided we are going to host a ‘Drive in Concert’ for Applefest instead. When life gives you apples, make cider!” People will be able to drive into the Community Bowl parking lot and a music stage will be set up by the ticket booths. They’ll be able to order ‘concessions’ and be served car-hop style by the Bismarck Cancer Center staff. Most people would agree the best part of Applefest is the combination of a family fun event while helping to make a difference to those on their cancer journey.

With these funds, the Bismarck Cancer Center is able to offer many complementary services including transportation and lodging assistance, spiritual counseling, support groups, nutritional care, survivorship care plans, massage, and physical therapy. According to Marketing Director Sara Kelsch, the Bismarck Cancer Center staff is still looking forward to this fun event, even though it will look different this year, “This will be a huge change from what we are used to for Applefest, but we are looking forward to a safe, socially distant event that raises money for this important cause.”
