AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES After School Activities (ASA) provide students with opportunities across a range of interest areas including sports, performing arts, STEAM and creativity. INFORMATION DATES There will be 4 blocks throughout the school year where students can take part in ASAs. The Study Hub runs every day. TIMES ASAs begin at 3:45pm and end at 4:45pm. CANCELLED ASAs Any ASAs cancelled due to external vendors or school staff will be credited to your child’s Schools Buddy account. There are no makeup sessions. If your child’s ASA is cancelled, and you are unable to collect them until 4:45pm, they will be supervised in the Study Hub.

Schools Buddy is an integrated portal BIS Houston uses to organise bookings, sign-ups and other activities. THE STUDY HUB Before & After School Supervision for Secondary Students The Study Hub is a dedicated space for Secondary students to access before and after school supervision. The provision is available throughout the year, with the exception of days where school finishes early (end of Autumn Term and end of Summer Term). In the Study Hub, Secondary students (Years 7 - 13) will have the opportunity to study, engage in a range of indoor games such as Chess and socialise with peers in a supervised environment. LOCATION The Study Hub is located in the A100’s neighbourhood, opposite the Silver Gym. Secondary students should access the Study Hub via the A100’s entry near the Green drop-off route. MORNINGS Students can be dropped off at the Study Hub from 6:45am-8am via the A100’s entrance door. At 8am the students will transition to their allocated year group arrival locations until 8:20am. AFTER SCHOOL 3:30pm-5pm - After school, all Secondary students who remain on campus but are not in a supervised activity/ASA must register with the member of staff on duty at the Study Hub. At 5pm students should head to the Green Route for pick up. This supervision is free of charge. 5pm-6pm - Secondary students who require additional supervision after the end of the formal school day can remain supervised in the Study Hub. If a student is attending an ASA, they should register in the Study Hub when ASAs end.

Afternoons 3:30pm-5pm All Secondary students who remain on campus but are not in a supervised activity/ASA must check in at the Study Hub. No booking is required for this time period.

BOOKING PROCESS Parents should book the required sessions through Schools Buddy. It is strongly recommended to book as far in advance as spaces may be limited. Students who are in the Study Hub and are not registered, whether in the morning from 6:45am-8am or in the afternoon between 5pm6pm, will be added to the register and a payment will be added through Schools Buddy. Our teams compete in the Greater Houston Athletic Conference (GHAC) for students in Years 7 - 9, and Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) District 4A for students in Years 10 - 13. In addition to our competitive athletics programme, we also offer recreational sports and training through our Enrichment and ASAs. Don’t forget to sign up for the team groups on the school app to access the season schedules.

ARCHERY Unleash your inner archer! This exciting after-school archery programme is designed for students who want to develop their skills in a fun, structured and safe environment. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience, this course will teach you the fundamentals of archery, including proper shooting techniques, stance and precision.

CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD PREPARATION CLUB Prepare for the Chemistry Olympiad by developing advanced problemsolving skills and tackling challenging chemistry concepts and examstyle questions.

CHESS Secondary Student Chess League for beginners, intermediate and advanced players. Everybody will play everybody over the course of the ASA block and an Autumn Champion will be crowned in the final week.

COOK, LEARN, GROW In this hands-on, project-based class, students explore how food connects people and cultures across the United States. Through cooking, tasting, and research, they’ll discover regional ingredients, flavors, and traditions while learning how history, geography, and cultural influences have shaped American cuisine. Students will investigate the foods of different regions—from the Northeast and South to the Midwest, Southwest, and West Coast—and examine the contributions of diverse communities to America’s food culture. EVENT BRASS BAND A one-off opportunity for students who play any wind instruments to perform at a school event. We will learn short pieces that can be used to add atmosphere and excitement at a school event - Friday Night Lights.

FENCING Introduction to the exciting Olympic sport of fencing. Discover the art of swordplay, master the techniques of footwork, blade work, and tactics, and engage in thrilling one-on-one combat. JUILLIARD DANCE TROUPE Our secondary Dance Troupe is an opportunity for students to work on upcoming dance performances, both in school and through our Nord Anglia worldwide platform, Global Campus. We will cover a range of dance styles and challenges, creating possibilities to develop choreographic and performance skills throughout the year.

KARATE This programme focuses on the comprehensive development of karate skills in alignment with our curriculum. Our goal is to contribute to the physical and mental development of children to become better human beings, providing the practical tools that will be useful in areas of their life. MATHS CLUB Middle School Maths Club is for students looking to broaden their Maths learning beyond middle school, looking at wider concepts of algebra, functions, calculus and geometry. They will develop their skills of application and problem solving, looking at content from a range of established courses, including IGCSE and IB. Students will also prepare and practice for a range of Mathematical Competitions, including AMC, UKMT and CEMC.

ORCHESTRA Participation in the BISH Orchestra requires students to be actively enrolled in regular private instrumental lessons, either through the school or with an external provider. In order to fully engage with orchestral repertoire, all participants must also be able to read from orchestral scores. All orchestra members are expected to attend two mandatory morning sectional rehearsals each week and the full orchestra rehearsal held on Tuesday mornings. Please check the morning Sectionals in this brochure. This is a whole academic year activity.

PUBLIC SPEAKING & PERSUASION Public Speaking & Persuasion is built on Brain Power's Public Speaking Academy IP, developed over 10 years with academic, media, debate, theatre and persuasion experts. It is the skill no other enrichment programme teaches at this level of depth. Students train in rhetoric and persuasion, drawing on lessons from Aristotle, Cicero and modern academic sources.

SENIOR SINGERS An opportunity for older students to learn a wide range of challenging vocal repertoire for performance at events. You will have the opportunity to explore vocal pieces in multiple styles that will push your musical skills and understanding.

STRINGS & PIANO As part of the BISH Orchestra programme, students in Strings and Piano (limited spaces available depending on the music reading proﬁciency) will participate in dedicated sectional rehearsals. These morning sessions are designed to strengthen ensemble playing, build conﬁdence within each section, and prepare students for full orchestra rehearsals. Participation in these sectionals is an essential component of the orchestra programme and helps ensure a cohesive and high-quality performance experience. This is a whole academic year activity. Students must be taking private lessons, either in school or externally and be able to read music scores. Students must also be signed up in Orchestra ASA to be able to participate in this activity.

THE NUTCRACKER BALLET We welcome all Y4-Y9 students to participate in a short adaption of this traditional Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, which is designed to be fun and accessible to students with different levels of dance and performance experience (previous dance experience not required). This is a great opportunity to gain stage experience, build confidence and be a part of a production. There will be a variety of roles involving dance, acting, character performance and group choreography. Auditions for lead roles will be open to Middle School students only and will take place at lunchtime on 30th September. Students who receive a lead role will be expected to attend additional rehearsals on Tuesday mornings at 8am. The live performance will take place after school on 16th December, all students who would like to participate must attend this live performance. This is a High School student-led production with supervision by Mrs. Bates with assistance from other staff members.

THEATRE CLUB Middle School Theatre Club is your chance to explore theatre beyond the School Production! This is not a musical theatre production, and there is no requirement to sing or dance. Instead, we’ll focus on the skills that make great actors and performers, including working with scripts, improvisation, characterisation, movement, voice and storytelling. The club will build towards a final showcase performance for parents, giving everyone the opportunity to take to the stage and show off what they’ve created!

VOX NOVA - BOYS SINGING Vox Nova is a singing group just for boys who want to explore and develop their voices. The group provides a fun and supportive space to learn a wide range of songs, build conﬁdence and discover the joy of singing together. Whether you’ve sung before or are just starting out, Vox Nova is all about ﬁnding your voice and making music as part of a team.

YEARBOOK CLUB Yearbook Club gives students the opportunity to capture and celebrate the memories of the school year. Members work together to take photos, conduct interviews, write stories and captions, design page layouts and help create a yearbook that reflects the experiences, achievements and spirit of the school community. Students interested in taking on specific leadership roles, such as Editor-in-Chief, Section Editor, Photography Lead, or Design Lead, will be required to submit an application and may be asked to interview for their position.
