The Bishop Miege Board of Trustees are members of the community, approved by the Archbishop, that manage the activities of the school. In 2010, each high school in Johnson County became its own not-for-profit corporation, with the Board of Trustees responsible for ensuring the mission of the school is consistent with the Catholic Church and the school’s finances and assets are managed appropriately. In addition, the Board of Trustees is responsible for hiring a President. Each Trustee serves a three-year term with a maximum of two consecutive terms.

From the Interim President Dear Bishop Miege Family, As our students journey through another school year, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of our families, alumni, and friends who help make Miege the best Catholic high school in the state. This is my twelfth year as a Miege administrator, and I’m both honored and blessed to come to school each day to work alongside a dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to help students grow in faith, strive for academic excellence, and show compassion toward others. This past fall, the national education organization Niche ranked Bishop Miege as the #1 Catholic high school in Kansas. This recognition reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and administration, as well as the ongoing support of our families and alumni. It is based on alumni, parent, and student reviews, along with our strong record of academic achievement and postsecondary success. We are excited about the completion of the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, a beautiful addition to our campus made possible through the generosity of the Dunn Family. The Grotto has quickly become a sacred space for prayer and reflection — a visible reminder of our Catholic identity. (see pg 16)
Additional highlights include: • 95% of our 2025 graduates chose to continue their education after leaving Miege. • A Writing Lab was launched in addition to our Math Hub. • This past fall, 510 of our 659 students participated in athletics, or other activities, such as the musical “Mamma Mia!”, Debate (last year’s state champions), Robotics, or Journalism. • Students have access to 30 different college-level courses, allowing them to explore their interests before graduation. The average enrollee earns between 20-40 hours, saving families between $25,000 and $50,000 depending on whether they attend a public or private university. The energy, faith, and commitment our students, faculty, and staff bring to campus each day set Bishop Miege apart. We are deeply grateful to our parents for entrusting their children to us, to our donors for their generosity in providing financial assistance and supporting campus improvements, and to our entire community for your prayers. For the first time in school history, Bishop Miege has been named one of seven PLTW Distinguished Schools in Kansas for 2024–25. This recognition celebrates our commitment to expanding access and achievement across our three PLTW pathways: Computer Science, Biomedical Science, and Engineering.

In Principles of Biomed, we also kept a detailed lab notebook and learned about data analysis, which prepared me for lab reports that I do regularly in college.”

The 52nd annual auction, Boot Scootin’ Stags, was a massive hit, shattering expectations and securing vital funds for Bishop Miege. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we raised over $640,000, including more than $460,000 through Fund-a-Need to support essential upgrades in the arts and complete our campus flooring project. The following Fund-a-Need projects have been completed • The Lisa Lopez-Galvan Production Studio • Music room renovations for our band and choir students • Theatre/auditorium upgrades for our theatre students • Equipment and enhancements for our journalism and speech and debate programs We loved seeing donations come in from our alumni who were impacted by these programs. The improvements will give our talented students the spaces to help them grow and shine like never before. To celebrate their 50th reunion, the Bishop Miege Class of 1975 created a $100,000 scholarship gift, establishing two endowed scholarships: the Class of 1975 Scholarship and the Len Mohlman & Gene Clohecy Scholarship.
“Collectively, we were able to raise $100,000 to fund two Bridge To The Future endowment scholarships for future Miege students. This was the largest gift by a reunion class by a wide margin.”
With encouragement from the Class of 1975 Reunion Gift Committee — Joe Gladbach, Phil Moran, and Mary Ellen Winter — and the Reunion Chairs, Chris Morgan and Sally Keating, the planning team saw an opportunity.
The Class of ’76 is now preparing a fundraising effort, fulfilling the Class of 1975’s hope that their gift would inspire others to invest in the next generation of Bishop Miege students.
The reunion committee set an ambitious “50 for 50” goal, hoping for $50,000, but the class’s generosity doubled that amount with $50,000 from two anonymous donors. “What happened was that we substantially underestimated the generosity of our classmates,” Gladbach said.

Grotto Dedication Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto Dedication – September 9, 2025 This fall, Bishop Miege joyfully dedicated the new Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, a sacred space on campus to share the powerful story of Our Lady of Lourdes and her message of hope and healing. It is our hope that this Grotto will become a source of peace for all who visit, a place where people can find solace, offer a prayer, and feel closer to God. We welcomed Archbishop Shawn McKnight for the first time to spend the morning with Bishop Miege for the dedication. This sacred space, made possible through the generosity of the Dunn Family, JE Dunn Construction, and HTK Architects, has given our students, families, and surrounding community a timeless space where they can pray for years to come. The celebration mirrored the heart of Lourdes itself. Our students filled the gym with candlelight, recalling the nightly procession in Lourdes, as French teacher Mrs. Leigh-Ann Haggerty gave a moving witness about the peace her family experienced there. She announced that she will be leading Miege’s first Lourdes mission trip next year. 16

2025 Award Recipients On October 25, 2025, the Bishop Miege community gathered for the annual Foundation Dinner, celebrating individuals and families whose dedication has shaped the life and legacy of our school. The 2025 Foundation Dinner Honorees were recognized for their leadership, faith, and service to the Miege community. The evening began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Shawn McKnight, followed by remarks from student speaker, Joshua Collins, Class of ‘26.
Dr. William J. Hendricks ’78, Alumnus of the Year, was recognized for his dedication to service as a family physician, retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, and longtime team physician for the Miege football program.
Jim Schemmel, recipient of the Herb Rome Stewardship Award, has served Bishop Miege for more than three decades as a volunteer and board member, sharing his leadership and financial expertise to strengthen Catholic education across Johnson County.
Tom ‘62 and Donna Kellerman were named the first-ever Family of the Year Award for their multi-generational support of Miege. Tom and all five of their children are Miege graduates, and the Kellermans remain active in fostering school spirit and community. 17

On behalf of our Interim President Joe Schramp and the Bishop Miege Foundation Board, I am pleased to provide you with an update on the considerable progress of the Bridge to the Future (BTF) scholarship program.
2024-2025 Results
Here are some of the accomplishments of BTF since it began in 2008: • Over $7M in financial assistance has been awarded to families in need. • BTF helped 322 students attend Bishop Miege with tuition assistance in the 2024-25 school year. • BTF is currently sustaining our enrollment by helping 47% of our student population with tuition support. A great deal of the recent growth of BTF has come from gifts directed toward establishing Named Scholarship Funds that honor families or individuals. In fact, this past fall the Bishop Miege Class of 1975, in conjunction with their 50 year reunion, provided a gift of $100,000 to our Bridge to the Future Scholarship Endowment. As part of their gift, the fund will also honor two of their former teachers/coaches, Len Mohlman and Gene Clohecy. Not only will their donations perpetually provide tuition assistance to families in need, they will also set a powerful example for other Bishop Miege classes to follow in their footsteps. Even with these successes, there is still plenty of work to be done as we face strong headwinds in trying to keep pace with the growing need to provide tuition assistance for our families. The combination of ever-increasing Bishop Miege costs and the growing differential between grade school and high school tuition creates an ongoing uphill challenge for us as we strive to help our families afford tuition. The Bishop Miege Foundation was formed as a separate 501(c)(3) in 1992 with the purpose of securing the long-range viability of our school. Since then, Bishop Miege Catholic High School students and families have greatly benefited from having the unique two-board structure by utilizing the leadership and commitment of a broad range of members of our school community that serve the two-board structure: The Foundation Board and the High School Board of Trustees (which focuses primarily on the operations of the school).
