A LOUGHLIN LEGEND
We are incredibly proud to announce a new scholarship to honor a Loughlin legend, John Klemm '65. Mr. Klemm was the founding Director of Development for Loughlin and has left a distinguished legacy at his alma mater. Among his many achievements, John:
Raised millions of dollars to support scholarships and aid for Loughlin students through the years. Founded the Lion-Lancer Golf Tourney (1997) along with Bro. James Bonilla and Kevin Gallagher '66. Created the Clermont Magazine to help keep alumni connected through the years. Brought both St. Augustine Lancers and Bishop McDonnell alumnae into the Loughlin Family, and formed the Lancer (2000) and McDonnell (2004) Alumni/Alumnae Associations. Established and directed many (!) alumni reunions and other events. Initiated Loughlin's first capital campaign in 2001 raising more than 6 million dollars. Also led Loughlin's 150th Anniversary Gala in that year. John (or "Jed" to many of his friends) has cultivated the thousands of relationships that help make up our alumni base of support in 2021.

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Friends of Loughlin, I write this message with a tinge of sadness. While John was brought on board by my legendary predecessor, Brother James Bonilla, FSC, he and I have had a nineteen-year run. John is responsible for founding the Development Office and overseeing its growth. He undertook our first Capital Campaign completing it successfully. Under his direction, office staff expanded to respond to various needs in an evolving and complex milieu. John knows Loughlin better than most. I not only mean our rich history and hope-filled future. I mean you – the women and men from the three schools, with one foundation, who are reading this. I think of the Bishop McDonnell Committee and all the work they undertake to support the mission they prize. The very significant “Bishops” scholarship and the reunions held in Bishops hallowed halls on Eastern Parkway. The Lancers from St. Augustine reunite on an annual basis because of the group that searched for classmates and assembled lists that John could develop. Lancers support scholarship funds named for Ray Brustman, Bro. Jerome Corrigan, FSC, and Frank Macchiarola sustaining a living legacy for the school. One image brings it all together for me – John at the golf outing. There is not a person who comes to that event that John doesn’t know. He can call everyone by name. Equally true of reunions and other events. He knows all of us in this treasured and extended family. John, wishing you all the best on the next part of your journey. You have served us well. Dear Loughlin Family: It is my honor to welcome you and say a few words on behalf of the Loughlin Governors. I’ve known John for many years and I thank him for recruiting me to the Board of Governors and helping me to elevate my golf game. John Klemm ’65 is truly a loyal son of old St. James. John has been the driving force behind 25 years of development success at Loughlin. Over his distinguished 25-year career, John has led consistent growth in alumni participation and funds raised. In no uncertain terms, the work of John, the Development Office, Bro. James Bonilla, and Bro. Dennis Cronin has positioned Loughlin very well in 2021. For John, it has always been about providing students with an opportunity. As such, it is only appropriate that a scholarship fund is being established tonight in his name. Dear John, Congratulations on the occasion of your retirement. May the years ahead be plentiful, and richly blessed with health and happiness. Thank you for your many years of dedicated service and support to the Loughlin Community - most especially its alumni. Your leadership has been outstanding. Thank you especially for your role in establishing a Bishop McDonnell Alumane Association. Your efforts reunited many Bishop’s girls with old high school friends and welcomed Bishop's alumnae into the Loughlin family. Most importantly this enabled us, women, to play an integral part in supporting the education of so many Loughlin students today. Well done, good and faithful servant. Ad multos annos ! ST. AUGUSTINE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Dear Loughlin Family: The St. Augustine Alumni Association became a reality thanks to the wisdom and foresight of John Klemm. John opened the doors of Bishop Loughlin and hosted Lancer reunions for the past two decades. John enabled us to further strengthen the already significant bonds of friendship formulated during our years at 64 Park Place. He provided us a forum in which we could honor those Lancers who have performed admirably in the fields of education, public service, athletics, business, and the like. In return, these events provided John with a forum in which he could reach out to the Lancers for financial assistance in providing an affordable LaSallian education for hundreds of young men and women at Bishop Loughlin High School. John did everything he could to make us feel at home in the Clermont Avenue Building by his creation of the Lancer Chapel, which contains the stained glass windows from the Brothers' Chapel at 64 Park Place. John Klemm asked us to "give back" and we have responded by contributing over 2 million dollars. Among the successful projects we have worked on together: The Lancer Music Studio, the Ray Brustman Scholarship Fund, the Frank J. Macchiarola, Ph.D., '58 Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the Bro. Jerome Corrigan Scholarship Fund. We wish John all the best in his retirement and will always remember his unselfish work in bringing us together for multiple common causes.
