Biography of Bishop Elias Lorenzo
Auxiliary Bishop of Newark

Early Years and Foundational Influences
Bishop Elias Lorenzo was born in Brooklyn in October 1960. He spent his early childhood in Sunset Park, where he attended a parish elementary school that introduced him to prayer, learning, and a sense of community life As he moved into preparatory school and seminary, he began to understand the value of disciplined study and spiritual reflection, both of which shaped his early sense of purpose These experiences encouraged him to pursue philosophy at the college level, guiding him toward monastic life, where he professed vows in 1985 and was ordained a priest in 1989. Throughout this early period, he grew steadily in awareness of the responsibilities and opportunities that accompany a life of service
