Birdie Fortescue is a British interior designer and founder of her eponymous homeware brand, celebrated for creating calm, cohesive interiors that blend antiques with contemporary design. Classically trained in England, Birdie began her career as an interior designer at the renowned British firm Sibyl Colefax & John Fowler, working on projects across the UK and the United States. From there, her interest in antique furniture grew, leading her to establish an antiques business specialising in 18th and 19th Century continental pieces. In 2014, Birdie opened her first store in a converted Victorian warehouse in Norfolk, England where antiques sat alongside art and thoughtfully designed homewares, reflecting her belief that interiors should feel layered, and evolve over time to create a balanced and harmonious effect.
In 2016, Birdie launched her first collection of block-printed soft furnishings. Designed in Norfolk and created in small batches, the collection marked the beginning of a wider collection of hand-crafted homewares. Today, the brand encompasses cushions, rugs, lighting, decorative accessories, table linens and furniture - each piece is carefully designed with interiors expertise so that every detail is carefully considered.
Birdie works with artisans and craftspeople both at home and across the globe who specialise in traditional skills and making methods creating eclectic collections that are unique and timeless. The made-to-order collection of furniture, both designed and handmade in Norfolk, allows for complete customisation to provide an exclusive offering.
Birdie’s unique designs are entirely her own, shaped by details observed during her travels through Europe, Asia, and Africa—from architectural motifs to timeworn textiles and unexpected colour combinations. These influences are reinterpreted through a distinctly English lens, resulting in timeless collections that bring a relaxed English country charm to traditional and contemporary interiors alike. Held together by a signature colour palette, seasonal collections are designed to be layered from one year to the next creating a look that is overall balanced, calm and timeless. Produced in limited runs, every Birdie Fortescue piece has individual character and a quiet sense of craftsmanship. Whether styled alone or layered together, each collection encourages a lived-in, harmonious aesthetic that feels effortlessly elegant.
Birdie continues to work on styling and interior design servives in the UK and US, with antique sourcing remaining a signature part of her practice.
Birdie Fortescue collections are available worldwide.
THE VASANTI COLLECTION
CELEBRATING THE JOYS OF SPRING
Birdie Fortescue introduces The Vasanti Collection, a celebration of awakening, abundance and joy. The new collection of furniture, lighting, rugs and decorative accessories captures spring’s irresistible spirit through a vibrant symphony of lively colour, intricate pattern and geometric form.
Drawing inspiration from the Sanskrit meaning of springtime, Vasanti brings together lively patterns, rich textures, and versatile pieces designed for indoor and outdoor living.
Crafted by hand in small, carefully curated production runs, each product carries fresh energy of the new season. True to Birdie’s signature style, Vasanti presents a balanced blend of traditional and contemporary elements informed by her global travels, layering handcrafted designs with bold textiles and a rich, curated colour palette, creating pieces that feel both collected and personal.
Furniture
At the heart of Vasanti, the Curato Garden Dining Collection includes new pieces of weatherproof, rattan-inspired furniture. The Curato dining table and chairs combine practical lightweight, weatherproof aluminium with the look of antique rattan for effortless, chic entertaining. The Curato garden chair and side table in a new natural colourway offer a softer, neutral finish. Indoors, the Avignon Rattan Armchair in off-white combines lightness with texture and the matching Ottoman has the added benefit of concealed storage. The natural feel of these pieces is complemented by the new Rattan Dining Chair, with a comfortable upholstered seat and printed stripe detailing.
Lighting
New lighting for this collection combines sculptural forms, natural materials and character. Statement pieces include the woven Gola Pendant which features a sculptural shade in a striking green and a metal frame entwined in handwoven circles of rattan, as well as a collection of table lamps such as the hand-carved Pyaz Table Lamp with a quirky double gourd base. More refined options such as the Marble Column Lamp and the Nashpati Glass Lamp offer a polished, contemporary feel, and the Surahi Rattan Table Lamp creates an easy, relaxed atmosphere in living spaces.
Lampshades play an equally important role this season, with new designs including Patti Pleated, Serit Reverse, Rassi Embroidered, Ladder Stripe Tedate and Scallop Paper Printed styles. Each shade introduces colour, pattern and dimension, allowing the collection’s lamp bases to be tailored to any interior.
Rugs
The SS26 rug selection focuses on colour, pattern and texture through a mix of floral, abstract and geometric designs. The Padma Floral Rug in jute and wool introduces soft pink and green motifs, with the Nirakar Abstract Rug highlighting a more contemporary feel with blues and greens in a soumak jute weave. For a softer look, the Lok Geometric Rug is made in a wool flatweave while bolder options include the Ganna Flat Weave Rug with its canework design in green or blue, and the Shatranj Flat Weave Rug in a checkerboard layout. Each piece is soft underfoot, versatile and designed to anchor a room with confident style.
Cushions and Decorative Accessories
The Vasanti cushion collection introduces lively pattern and updated colour across indoor and outdoor designs. Lotus, Patti and Ogee Outdoor Cushions are available in water resistant and fadeproof fabrics, and indoor block-printed and embroidered pieces including Ogee, Patti, Registan, Khiva and Rassi feature soft texture, playful trims and considered craft to both garden and interior spaces. This season’s decorative accessories celebrate handmade craft and character. Highlights include papier mâché Phoda artworks presented as framed sets, the Athangudi Wooden Tray with a circular inlaid motif, hand-painted Toofan Glass Vases, glazed Verg ceramic cube candle holders, and the woollen Dopatti Throw with woven stripes and wrapped fringe. Tableware pieces such as Ogee, Ghas and Athangudi placemats and napkins layer easily with these accessories, creating a versatile, styled approach for spring and summer interiors.
Of the new SS26 collection Birdie Fortescue says, “For Vasanti I wanted to capture that feeling of stepping into spring – when everything feels possible again. This collection is designed to bring joy into everyday moments, whether you’re setting a table or creating a space to gather with friends and family.”
