NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
1 pair 4mm Knitting Needles, or size that gives correct tension. A yarn needle; 1 stitch holder; 1 button.
TENSION
22 sts and 28 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 4mm needles.

yfwd = yarn forward to make a stitch. yon = yarn over needle to make a stitch. tbl = through back of loop.
Bobble = knit into front, back, front and back of same st, turn, P4, turn, K4, pass 2nd, 3rd and 4th sts over first st.
BACK
Using 4mm needles, cast on 67 (77-87) sts.
Beg edging – 1st row (RS) – K1, yfwd, * K5, slip the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sts over the 1st st, yfwd, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row – P1, * (P1, yon, K1 tbl) all into next st, P1, rep from * to end = 57 (65-73) sts.
3rd row – K2, K1 tbl, * K3, K1 tbl, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2. 4th row – Knit, sizes 12 months and 4 years only – inc (dec) 2 sts evenly across last row = 59 (65-71) sts, thus completing edging. Beg patt – Knit 6 rows garter st.
Work 2 rows stocking st (beg with a knit row). 9th row – K5, * Bobble, K5, rep from * to end. 10th row – Purl.
Knit 2 rows garter st.
Last 12 rows form patt.
Cont in patt until work measures 8 (11-13) cm from beg of patt, working last row on WS.
Tie a coloured thread at each end of last row to mark beg of armholes as there is no armhole shaping.
Cont in patt until work measures 13 (14-15) cm from coloured threads, working last row on WS.
Shape Shoulders – Cast off 6 (7-7) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 6 (6-8) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Leave rem 23 (25-27) sts on a stitch holder.
LEFT FRONT
Using 4mm needles, cast on 32 (37-37) sts.
Beg edging – Work 3 rows edging as for Back = 29 (33-33) sts.
4th row – Knit, sizes 18/2 and 4 only – (dec-inc) (1-2) st/s evenly across = 29 (32-35) sts.
Beg patt – Knit 6 rows garter st.
Work 2 rows stocking st (beg with a knit row). 9th row – K5, * Bobble, K5, rep from * to last 0 (3-0) sts, (Bobble, K2) 0 (1-0) time/s.
10th row – Purl.
Knit 2 rows garter st.
Last 12 rows form patt.

Shape Neck – Next row (WS) – Cast off 6 (6-7) sts, knit to end = 23 (26-28) sts.
Dec one st at neck edge in every row until 20 (23-25) sts rem, then in every foll alt row until 18 (20-22) sts rem.
Cont without shaping until work measures same as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with same patt row on WS.

SLEEVES
Using 4mm needles, cast on 37 (42-42) sts.
Beg edging – Work 3 rows edging as for Back = 33 (37-37) sts.
4th row – Knit, inc one st in centre = 34 (38-38) sts.
Work in garter st for rem, inc one st at each end of 5th row, then in every foll 6th (8th-8th) rows until there are 52 (56-60) sts.
Cont in garter st without shaping until work 19 (22-28) cm from beg, working last row on WS. Cast off loosely knitways.
NECKBAND
Using mattress st, join shoulder seams. With RS facing and using 4mm needles, knit up 16 (18-18) sts evenly along right front neck, knit across sts from back stitch holder, then knit up 16 (18-18) sts evenly along left front neck = 55 (61-63) sts.
Knit 3 rows garter st. Cast off loosely knitways.
FRONT EDGINGS
Using 4mm needles, cast on 37 (47-52) sts.
Work 3 rows edging as for Back = 33 (41-45) sts.
4th row – Knit. Cast off loosely knitways.
Using a flat seam, sew cast off edge of edging to left front edging. Work another edging in same manner for right front edging.
FINISHING
DO NOT PRESS. Sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads, placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seams. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew on button to centre of neckband as pictured. Fasten throught eyelet hole of edging.
