Many years ago some charitable bingo’s were having a hard time drawing enough players to make it profitable to run bingo. They couldn’t compete with the casino bingo’s large Jackpots. In an effort to save charitable bingo the laws were changed to allow Progressive Jackpots. It started out with a few glitches but after a few months and many calls to the Wisconsin charitable bingo office the bugs were worked out. Progressives start out with a set amount if the bingo card is filled in 48 numbers or less you win the jackpot. Most Jackpots started off at $500. If No one wins in the amount of bingo numbers called there is a consolation prize and the jackpot carries over to the next bingo event. 50% of the next event sales get added to the

previous jackpot and the amount of called numbers needed to cover the card grows by one each time. Most coveralls get won somewhere between 57 and 60 calls. So as the number of calls needed to win the Jackpot increases,

so do the crowds and profits. The progressive Jackpots games don’t come without some problems. The early Jackpots have less people playing because it is unlikely for them to get hit. A way to avoid

that is by having a larger consolation prize in the beginning. As the jackpots and crowds grow some of the bingo players might feel slighted if they don’t win. It’s up to the bingo volunteers at the hall to make sure everyone feels like they are appreciated and thanked for donating to their causes. A simple thank you and friendly smile go along way with the customers. Another way to increase profits is to offer large guaranteed prizes. The State of Wisconsin has a $500 limit for non progressive games. An organization could sell special sheets under the bingo license used for Progressive sales.
