Flash Winner a Plant? Dear Aunt Bingo, I am hoping that I am wrong, but at the Bingo hall where I play Bingo, this woman seems to win all the large pots on the flash card games that they play in between the regular Bingo games. My friend says that it is obvious that she is a plant. I hate to believe this, as it is a church hall where we play. What is your opinion? This woman infuriates everyone by yelling Bingo at the top of her lungs. Please answer this as we all
Dear Betty, A plant? At a church Bingo? You believe that a religious institution whose purpose is to help parishioners live a Christian life and be closer to God has planted a player at its Bingo to cheat the other players. You believe that this church Bingo, whose proceeds will be used for any number of charitable activities as well as to fund the church’s own good works, is doing so by running a scam. And risking their reputation as an institution if they were to be caught? It is much more likely that this woman is winning more often because she spends more money on the flash cards games than other players. —Aunt Bingo Share your views! Missing medical equipment at the VA The VA appears to have lost $211 million worth of medical equipment from their facilities, approximately 5% of the total. This includes computers, exam tables, microscopes ... over 75,000 items. Per a recent audit of medical facilities by the VA’s Office of Inspector General, there might be even more missing, because the VA only tracks nonexpendable items. How is it possible to lose that much stuff? One way to “lose” items is when the batteries in the electronic location tags die, making the item impossible to find. Items were also “lost” because they were not in the location indicated. In this recent audit, the OIG could not find 537,000 items (33%) at the locations indicated on the previous inventory. Add to that staff informed the OIG that if certain items were
PICKS OF THE MONTH The Long Walk (R) — Based on the 1979 novel written by Stephen King (It), this dystopian thriller is led by Cooper Hoffman (Saturday Night) and David Jonsson (Industry). Set during an alternate reality of the 1970s where a totalitarian regime reigns over the United States, the film follows an annual voluntary competition consisting of 50 boys who must walk nonstop at a pace of 3 miles per hour or face the consequences of death. “The Walk” only ends when there’s one boy left, who then receives a cash prize and a wish of his choice. Although they’re driven by an insatiable hunger to improve their families’ lives, the boys severely underestimate the trauma they’re about to put themselves through and whether their choice was ultimately worth the long walk. Judy Greer and Mark Hamill costar in the film, which is available now to rent at home. (Apple TV+) Lazarus (TV-MA) — Sam Claflin stars in this new horror series alongside Bill Nighy. Only six episodes long, this series picks up as forensic psychologist Laz receives news of his father’s (Nighy) death. Although his father’s death was ruled to be a suicide, Laz finds certain similarities between this case and the death of his sister 25 years ago. Simultaneously, Laz also begins to experience weird and paranormal instances where his father visits him and speaks
included in a previous audit, they didn’t need to be included in the next audit. Many items had an average of 600 days between inventory dates, increasing the risk that items go missing forever. It gets worse: The OIG learned that reporting of missing items had not been conducted as it should be in all cases. There were 915 missing item reports (value $31.2 million) that had not been completely investigated, and over 200 items that hadn’t been reported at all. So what happens when proper inventories aren’t done? If nothing else, items can’t be assessed to determine whether they’re in a condition to be used for patient care. If inventories aren’t accurate, medical items can’t be found immediately for patient care. If missing item reports aren’t done, it can’t be determined just how those items came to be missing. And there can’t be accurate planning of future purchases if there isn’t an accurate accounting of what is actually on hand. I hope VA Secretary Doug Collins is paying attention to this.
to him. Left with no choice but to either succumb to insanity or solve the case, Laz is determined to find out whether his father was murdered. (Amazon Prime Video) Chad Powers (TV-MA) — Glen Powell’s latest sportscomedy series not only stars the 36-year-old actor, but it was also created by Powell based on the Eli’s Places segment hosted by former quarterback Eli Manning. In the series, Powell plays Russ Holiday, a washed-up former football star whose career tanked after a championship game gone wrong. Russ has the bright idea to change up his identity so that he can continue to play football, so with the help of prosthetics, a wig, and some (bad?) acting, Russ transforms into Chad Powers. “Chad” then gets signed on to play for a small college that desperately needs some star power. With the whole football program relying on his success, the stakes are greater than ever for Russ/Chad to pull through — and not get caught while doing so. Four episodes of the six-episode season are out now to stream. (Hulu) Write in to Couch Theater by emailing TheCouchTheater@ gmail.com or writing to KFWS, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803.

Bossed at Bingo I think I am known for being an affable person of easy-going disposition, so it was with a real shock when I totally lost my temper at a Bingo game of all places. We had come in, sat down at a table and I was arranging my bits and baubles when Margaret plunked herself down across the table from
DECEMBER 2025 me. I do not like Margaret. She is bossy, opinionated and thinks much too highly of herself, but I put up with her and try to stay out of her orbit as much as possible. It seems I could not avoid her today. As I was arranging my Bonanza cards, Margaret snapped, “Oh, don’t do it that way!” I looked up at her dumbly. “It is so much better to put them together like this,” she added, then took my cards and put them together vertically. “This way you can do a whole row without moving your eyes. It is much faster, and you won’t make mistakes. You do tend to make mistakes, you know.” She smiled slyly and added a small bit of sticky tape to keep them all together. I found myself getting angry especially since what she said made sense. I had never thought of it before. However, the crack about making mistakes was unnecessary. I retreated into play and before long was “on.” I took
special notice of that card and pulled it closer to me to be more watchful. I began to chant “B-52” quietly under my breath. “Oh, don’t do that,” said Margaret. “You will bring about bad luck. Just keep the number you want in your head.” She flustered me. I admit it. I was absolutely unable to hear the caller until he went on to the next number. “Wasn’t that the one you were waiting for?” asked Margaret with a sly and triumphant grin and I realized I had missed the Bingo I had been anticipating. I sat ready to explode when the next game was called, and Margaret reached over to point to a number I had missed. “Stop that!” I cried out. “Just mind your own business and let me play my cards. Let me make my own mistakes!” The floor worker came to our table. “What’s the problem?” he asked.
WISCONSIN EDITION “No problem,” said Margaret airily. She pointed at me. “She missed a number and I pointed it out.” The floor worker moved away as I mumbled, “Just mind your own beeswax,” recollecting a phrase from my childhood. I actually felt like I was five years old and being attacked by the class bully. The rest of the day was uneventful. Neither Margaret nor I won and as we were packing up to go, she said, “I will let you know next time I am coming to Bingo. I do so enjoy sitting across from you. Give me your phone number.” I couldn’t decide whether to give her the number of the local IRS May 3rd agency hoping they might haul her away or my own number so that I could avoid any game to which she might be coming. Then I decided it would be easier just to give her my phone number which I did, craftily reversing the last two digits.

N ews from the R eal W orld & C yberspace Bingo Strategies? Recently, we ran across several articles on strategies for winning Bingo and they all mentioned “The Tippet Method” and The Granville Method” specifically. Bingo results depend on the drawn numbers, so there’s no way for players to manipulate or guess the outcome—so neither of these strategies will make you a Bingo winner—but we thought they were interesting reading, nonetheless. A few tips that actually will improve your odds below. The Tippett Method British statistician L.H.C. Tippett came up with a complex theory about randomness that may or may
not be true (there is no statistical evidence supporting the theory). Tippett’s theory suggests the more numbers called in a bingo game, the more likely those numbers will gravitate towards the median number. For example, if there are 75 bingo balls in play, and it’s a short game, choose cards with numbers closer to 1 and 75. If it’s a long game, choose numbers that are closer to the median number 45. Skilled bingo players will know which games will go for longer and which games are usually decided in fewer calls. The Granville Method This method came from Joseph E. Granville, a financial analyst and
writer. Granville’s strategy requires players to select their cards based on the balance of the numbers and their long-run probability of being drawn. Based on Granville’s strategy, players must assume that operators will call an equal amount of low, high, even, and odd numbers. When applying Granville’s method to a 75-ball Bingo game, players should expect to see equal appearances of numbers between 1 to 37 and 38 to 75. Therefore, when selecting their Bingo cards, players should choose cards that have an even balance of low and high numbers. According to this method, players should also assume that even and odd numbers will appear an equal number of times. Therefore, they should select cards with a balance of odd and even numbers. It should be noted that Granville’s reputation as a stock market
BINGO BUGLE PAGE 5 investor is deplorable, with his stock choices depreciating by 20% year on year based on his ability as a mathematical analyst. What Does Increase Odds of Winning? --Playing with more cards is one of the best-known strategies used by players to increase their chances of winning. When playing multiple cards, it’s important to remember, however, that Bingo should be fun and not stressful and that this strategy requires players to be adept at managing their money, so financial prudence is essential. --Play when the hall (or online bingo room) is less crowed. Fewer players improves odds of winning. --Don’t play when tired or unfocused for any reason—missing numbers leads to missing wins.

That Love A gift from God to share with due respect, it brings forth life and peace of mind --man’s immortality is within reach. The freedom --to serve others, to make people feel they belong to the universe: that someone cares, it asks nothing --To express himself, his need for love, his dependence on other; to belong in the universe;
to achieve his needs without being a slave. Love listens, that it may speak. Love gives, that sacrifice may take place. Love is freedom, it leads to eternal life.

Winter Winners Hi Guy, It’s official: I think I need my head examined. When the winter weather turned so bad this season, my wife suggested that I might want to take a break from evening travel— which of course would include skipping Bingo. She of course was right, and I have made a point of waiting for the snow to stop falling and letting the plows clear and salt the roads before heading out to run errands or go shopping or anything. Mostly. The exception is Bingo—which I play a couple of nights a week and also work at as a runner at one game. It is the one activity I really hate to skip, and actually like doing more in the winter for two reasons: Less people go out in the winter weather, which means there are less players and it is easier working
as a runner with fewer players needing help; and there are less players to compete with and you have a better chance of winning prize money. While I admit I haven’t done a great job of keeping track, I am confident that probably 70% of the jackpots I win during the year I get between November and March. It only stands to reason that this is because there are a lot fewer players filling the chairs, which ups everyone’s chances of winning. It sure is working for me. Admittedly, it can be a little foolish driving the winter roads at night to do something as trivial as play Bingo. But it seems way less foolish when you drive home again with $1,000 in your pocket and a grin you can’t get off your face! The same goes for working at Bingo. As a retiree, I have plenty of free time on my hands and can get bored being cooped up at home when the weather turns bad. My Bingo job makes me get out of the house and do something social with people I have gotten to know and who go to Bingo to have fun and win some bucks. I’m glad to be there to add to their fun and grab some of the fun for myself. And I usually find myself driving home with a grin on my face on those nights, too. It may not be a money-winning grin, but it’s a grin, nonetheless. —Cal G., Ohio

hit more of the country each year, I know a lot of Bingo halls have struggled to fill their seats at this time of year. Lucky for you and unfortunately for others, when hall numbers are down the odds of your winning go way up. And smart players take full advantage. Like you, I make a point of playing regularly and sometimes a little more Bingo during the winter season for that very reason. And I know that my winning percentage goes up because of it. That said, there is also a limit to how much risk I’m willing to take on the roads during inclement weather. If it is so icy that I can barely get from the house to the garage without breaking my neck, that’s when I’ll stay put, Bingo night or not. But if it is only a dark, creepy, slushy mess outside—I’m there! —Guy Hey guys! (And gals!) Write to: Guy’s Turn c/o The Bingo Bugle, P.O. Multi-Hand Blackjack Multi-Hand Blackjack is the same as the traditional blackjack game with this caveat: you can play more than one hand per round (up to five hands although the latter varies by the online site). You are playing against a dealer with the objective of beating them by: • Having your hand total higher than the dealer’s hand, or • Having 21 or less when the dealer busts. You have the option to play one or more hands per round. Some online casinos allow you to play up to three hands while others permit five hands (check the blackjack rules). You can also bet the same or different amounts on each hand up to the table limits. You must decide how to play each hand to completion, in turn, starting from the hand closest to first base (dealer’s left side), and then proceeding to the player’s left toward third base (dealer’s right side). The playing rules may differ slightly, therefore, always check the playing rules to make sure you employ the correct strategies. 2 – How to Play Your Hands You should not make the same playing decision on every hand. Rather, you should play each hand independently based on the cards dealt in each hand and the dealer’s upcard. The strategy you should use is the basic blackjack playing strategy, which is the optimal strategy assuming the only information you have is the cards in each hand and the value of the dealer’s upcard. By using the basic playing strategy for every hand, you will increase your overall return to the optimal level. Also, keep this in mind when playing more than one hand: The house edge does not change; it is the same for each hand, so playing multiple hands per round will not increase your chance of winning. 3 – What is the Effect of Playing Multiple Hands? When you play more than one
DECEMBER 2025 hand per round, the number of hands played per hour increases but the number of rounds played per hour decreases. 4 – Expected Losses By playing five hands, you decrease the number of rounds played per hour, but your total wagers increase five-fold per round. Because of this, you stand to lose theoretically 1.5 times more money, on average, compared to playing only one hand because you’ve exposed more of your bankroll against the house edge. Conclusion: Your expected hourly loss with basic strategy will decline (and your theoretical return will increase) when you spread the amount you would have bet on one hand over five hands per round. 5 – Bankroll Swings You probably would think that the swings in your bankroll would be the same whether you bet, say, $20 on one hand or $10 on each of two hands since the total amount wagered per round is the same ($20). However, the two hands are not independent because they are associated with the same dealer’s hand, so if the dealer has a lousy hand, you are likely to win both hands (and vice versa, if she has a strong hand). What this means in practical terms is that your bankroll will not fluctuate as much when you bet $10 on each of two hands, compared to betting $20 on one hand. Additionally, for the same total amount wagered per round, betting two hands improves the chances of your bankroll lasting longer compared to betting it all on one hand. 6 – Card Counting at Multi-Hand Blackjack Playing more than one hand in land-based casinos is a beneficial strategy for card counters who have the edge. With Multi-Hand Blackjack, the six-deck of cards are reshuffled after every hand. Therefore, there is no advantage for the card counter in this game. 7 - Progressive Betting Systems Varying your bets in a predetermined manner, depending on if the previous hand won or lost, will not change the house edge; meaning, it will not increase your chance of winning when playing Multi-Hand Blackjack. If you use a progressive betting system on one or more hands, you will put more money at risk and your hourly theoretical loss will increase. 8 - Playing Multiple Hands in Land-Based Casinos It’s possible to play multiple hands in a land-based casino. However, there must be open spots on a table to do so. Additionally, most casinos have this requirement if you want to play more than one hand: you must bet double the table minimum on each hand. What's News in Nevada . . . Big Jackpots A couple of players at Station Casinos got lucky in October. A local hit a $1.05 million jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Big Money machine at Sunset Station on a $3 bet. The other local won $437,311, plus the $5,000 Fortune Bonus, at pai gow poker by hitting a seven-card straight flush, a gawjis 3 through 8 of spades and the wild card. Starlight Plaza Opens The Mob Museum has opened its new seasonal outdoor lounge and event venue, Starlight Plaza. The 7,700-square-foot patio features eight mixed-media murals that “celebrate the legacies of Glitter Gulch, gambling, boxing, the Mint 400, the Rat Pack, Tom Jones, Liberace, and Lena Horne”; an original YESCO sign is also on display. For a limited time, there’s a happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. with beer and wine for $5. Starlight is open noon to 9 p.m. Thurs.Sunday. Highest-Rated Beer and Pizza VinePair.com used Beer Advocate’s list of the top-rated beers from U.S. breweries with over 100 ratings on the platform to come up with each state’s favorite. Nevada’s is Disco Ninja, a 7% New England IPA from Revision Brewing Company in Sparks. It’s described as “citrusy and tropical with a light resin note” and can be found, we’re told, at Total Wine & More, with three locations around the valley. To go with Disco Ninja, the best pizza in the Silver State, at least according to TastingTable, is found at Solamente, located at 8390 West Sahara Ave. just east of Durango. All the more impressive: The owner and chef was a full-time teacher during the day and opened the restaurant at night. Cyn City! Our favorite girl who just wants
to have fun, Cyndi Lauper, has announced her first-ever Las Vegas residency, which will take place at the Colosseum at Caesars. Cyndi (and yes, we’re on a first-name basis with her) had a string of hits from her debut album, She’s So Unusual: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, True Colors, Change of Heart, Time after Time, and She Bop. She also won the Grammy for best new artist in 1985. Known for her distinctive fashion and performance style and four-octave vocal range, Lauper, now 72, has released 12 studio albums that sold more than 60 million worldwide; in 2010, Memphis Blues was Billboard’s most successful blues album of the year and in 2013, she won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots, making her the first woman to win the category by herself. She’s won numerous other awards and recognitions, including two Tony’s, an Emmy (she’s also an actress), and several MTVs, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. The Vegas dates are April 24, 25, and 29 and 1, and 2. Vegas Tacos Take Top Spots Yelp has unveiled its list of the Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025. Te’Kila Lil Time Bar and Grill ranked number 34; it has two locations, one on W. Sahara near Jones, the other on S. Durango near Desert Inn. Chicali Tacos placed #76; serving Mexicali-style cuisine, it’s located near S. Maryland Pkwy. and Serene. Aroma Latin American Cocina came in at #91; Aroma is a perennial winner, Yelp’s numberone taco spot in 2023 and the best in Nevada in 2024 and chef-owner Steve Kestler was a James Beard Award finalist in 2024. Finally, Tacotarian, the vegetarian brand with several locations around the valley, took #96.

No Gifts & Re-Gifts As we get older, we realize that the best gifts for Christmas are found in the heart and not in the shopping malls. –Ms. Anonymous Bring out the cake and blow out the candles! It’s time to celebrate December as National Bingo Month. Its origin is related to Edwin S. Lowe’s creation of the first bingo game in 1929. Shout out to bingo staffers who run bingo games. How about sponsoring a bingo birthday party this month at your facility? Pick a game night and go all out with birthday decorations, treats for all, and special bingo game prizes. For anyone celebrating an actual birthday that night, offer discounted prices, or even allow them to play for free. Design special games like a B for Bingo Birthday and P for Party. Use your imagination to make it a fun evening for all. On another topic, this is the Christmas season, so I’ve been thinking about regifting presents or not exchanging gifts at all. I love decorating the tree and house, the carols, special movies, the smells, the parties, and gift giving. Growing up, our family didn’t celebrate many holidays, but Christmas was always special. We were fortunate in that there were always presents under our tree and we were allowed to open one on Christmas Eve. My husband wasn’t so lucky as he was raised by a single mom and Christmas was just another day in his world. After we married,
I tried to make up for that neglect and help him appreciate the joy that I experience this time of year. I made our Christmas cards and shopped year-round for perfect presents to delight loved ones. However, our children have grown up, moved out, and moved on, and like many others, Christmas has become less meaningful to them. Last year, they all requested gift cards, practical for sure, but not much fun at our family party. The result being that this year, for the first time in my life, our family will skip the gift exchange and play some fun games instead. Since gift giving has become so expensive, I understand and agree. In 2024, average holiday spending per person was around $900 according to the National Retail Federation. Whew! That’s a hit to our pocketbooks as my own Christmas gift list had grown longer than Pinocchio’s nose as the kids brought spouses and children into our family; not to mention various friends who count as family. Add to that the price of holiday travel, meals, and decorations and the harsh realities have hit me like a snowball to my face. I needed to adjust my spending and expectations and realize that Christmas is not about what we get or give, but about who’s around the tree with us and the love we share. Gifts I previously bought anticipating Christmas 2025 will be re-gifted on other occasions in 2026. Technically, this is not regifting because they are not recycled gifts I received from others; although there’s nothing wrong with doing that either. Shouldn’t an unwanted gift be given to someone who might appreciate it as opposed to it sitting in a dark closet gathering dust? Share your thoughts with me about this topic, or any other, via my contact e-mail below. Until next month, may Lady Luck blow you kisses as you dance out the door with dollars. Win big.
