Angela Bigg has been named president and CEO of Diavik Diamond Mine by owner Rio Tinto. She will be the first woman to lead the mine in the Northwest Territories and its 1,100 employees. Angela joined the Diavik team in November 2017 as VP finance and was recently general manager of Diavik. She joined Rio Tinto in 2005 and has worked in Mozambique, South Africa and Australia, where she is from. She succeeds Richard Storrie who has left the company.
Robert Friedland, founder and co-chair of Ivanhoe Mines, was recently inducted into the American Mining Hall of Fame and presented with a bronze plaque commemorating his accomplishments. He has developed a portfolio of public and private companies, whose initiatives have led to several significant mine developments, among them the Voisey’s Bay nickel mine in Canada, the Kamoa-Kakula copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Platreef PGM mine in South Africa.
Trevor Spark is now SNCLavalin’s global VP of tailings and water management for mining and metallurgy. He is based in the United Kingdom and will lead the expansion of the division, working in collaboration with our teams around the world. He has 30 years of experience in fluid engineering, solidliquid filtration and mineral processing, as well as project execution, sales and marketing, and consultancy. He has guided and delivered numerous international projects.
