LiveWire

An apology

Editor

As you may be aware there was not an issue of Livewire in March and I would like to express my apology.

If you don’t already know, I was caught up in the conflict in the Middle East where I had tours and flights cancelled or delayed and had to return home via the UK some days after my expected return to Australia.

It feels like the World has changed a lot since our last update in February. There’s increasing uncertainty at the moment, with things like fuel prices and supply chain issues putting pressure on businesses.

Cover Story

Broadcasting live from Vinnies (corner of Ruthven and Long Street) as part of our continued support for them.

The idea is to promote our station and make people aware of who we are and what we are all about here at 102.7 FM.

We will broadcast from 9am to midday and it was fabulous to see so many members from 102.7 FM in attendance wearing their branded shirts.

Announcer’s Meeting

This is to advise that we will be holding an announcers’ meeting on Wednesday, 15th April from 6.15pm to approximately 8.15pm at the Paul Myatt Community.

We would ask everyone to make the effort to attend as we will be going through all the information you will need to know regarding the switch over to PlayoutONE Pro. This will include:

• Launch/switch over date

• Training support prior to the switch

• All requirements to be met before announcers can move to PlayoutONE Pro

As we will provide pizzas and refreshments, please let Leanne know if you are attending for catering purposes.

Updates

This lovely young lady will soon host our ethnic program for our residents from the Philippines every Thursday at 6pm. Welcome to 102.7FM Veiola.

Membership Review SubCommittee

Through the review of our current practices and processes, recommendations be made on the following areas:

Studio Air Conditioners

Just a further update on any confusion regarding the air-conditioners in our studios.

To ensure all the equipment is kept at optimal temperature levels, and to minimise any variation for everyone using the studios, both rooms will be set to 24 degrees with the fan on low.

There should be no need to adjust the temperature at that level.

Please do not turn the airconditionersoff.

1. to grow our individual memberships

2. how we attract, sign up and renew memberships

3. cost of membership (individual and family)

4. to implement a membership rewards program

5. to improve (commence) communication with our members (two-way)

Ancient Egypt Facts

1. Over 130 pyramids have been discovered in Egypt

2. The afterlife was incredibly important to the Egyptians. They believed that by preserving a dead person’s body – which they did through the process of mummification – their soul would live on in the afterlife forever.

3. The Great Pyramid at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid. This incredible structure weighs as much as 16 Empire State buildings!

4. Both Egyptian men and women wore make-up. The eye paint was usually green (made from copper) or black (made from lead). As well as offering protection from the sun, the Egyptians believed make-up had magical healing powers, too!

5. The Egyptian alphabet contained more than 700 hieroglyphs!

6. Ancient Egyptians believed in more than 2,000 deities! They had gods for everything, from dangers to chores! Each had different responsibilities and needed to be worshipped so that life could be kept in balance.

7. Cats were considered sacred animals by the Ancient Egyptians. It’s thought that most families kept a cat as a pet, which they believed would bring the household good luck!

Registered Charity Governance

Record-keeping

Charity

Safeguarding is part of a charity’s primary duty of care.

Registered charities are required to maintain written financial and operational records. Records should be kept for seven years, in any format that is easy to find, including electronic forms.

Financialmanagement

Financial management is the process of strategically planning, organising, directing, and controlling a charity's financial resources to pursue its charitable purpose. It involves making decisions about how to protect funds and assets and ensuring a charity is meeting reporting and record-keeping obligations.

A charity’s Responsible People have a duty to ensure the financial affairs of the charity are managed responsibly, and to not allow the charity to operate while insolvent.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is protecting the welfare and human rights of people that are connected with your charity or its work –particularly people that may be at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

While all people must be protected from harm, there are additional legislative and ethical considerations for protecting vulnerable people.

Conflictsofinterest

A conflict of interest is when a person's personal interests conflict with their responsibility to act in the best interests of the charity.

A conflict of interest may be actual, potential or perceived, and may be financial or non-financial.

Charities need to take steps to manage conflicts of interest.

Relatedpartytransactions

A related party transaction is a transfer of resources, services, or obligations between related parties. It does not have to include financial payment.

Training programs are now available on NGO Training and are compulsory.

If you are not enrolled on our training platform, email steven@bigdog.au to gain access to the training modules.
