Sizzling series of events to launch this summer A series of free events and activities, including a new interactive trail, to celebrate green and open spaces is to be launched this summer.
O
rganised by Bournville Village Trust (BVT), in partnership with others, the events in Birmingham and Telford will take place throughout July and August. In Birmingham, residents will be able to take part in the BVT Great Green Discovery Trail to explore beautiful open spaces. The trail map will be available to download from the BVT website or collect at our offices, and completed maps can be entered into a prize draw. There’ll also be a range of other outdoor events in Birmingham including a teddy bear’s picnic,
tai chi and gentle exercise classes. In Telford, there will be numerous outdoor events in Lightmoor and Lawley Villages, as well as other areas of the town.
These events are a great way to enjoy a range of open spaces, have fun and give your wellbeing a boost too.
Events will range from challenging scavenger hunts and a teddy bear’s picnic to organised walks, fun runs and fun days. Jessica Allan, Community Development Manager at BVT, said: “These events are a great way to enjoy a range of open spaces, have fun and give your wellbeing a boost too. “We hope lots of residents will embrace the opportunity to get out and about this summer and enjoy the activities on offer.” For more information about all the exciting events taking place this summer, turn to page 7.

Village bags itself a new shop A new convenience store and pharmacy has celebrated its official opening in Lightmoor Village in Telford. The opening of the store, managed by Jhoots, was marked at a fun-filled fair attended by over 350 residents. Held in May, the event also championed local businesses with stalls selling goods and crafts from a range of independent traders. According to recent reports, Telford has
the fewest number of independent shops in the country. Becci Youlden, Head of Stewardship and New Communities at BVT, said: “Lightmoor is already home to a number of independent businesses and we are confident that Jhoots will be able to deliver a great service to local people. “With so few independent businesses in Telford, it’s great to champion local traders.” Lightmoor’s spring fair.
