Freedom to and Freedom from Sculpture, Mixed Media on Paper Mache W:8.50 H:18 in 2025 Agnieszka Palka
Freedom to and Freedom from is an entirely hand-built sculpture. The artist repurposes newspaper and cardboard to construct the foundation and masks it with delicate eggshells that are almost composted. The variable textures and sizes of eggshell pieces, ranging from broken to whole, illustrate a significant aspect of a woman's identity throughout history. By manipulating a texture resembling a marble surface, the artist constructs a minimalist white cube as a metaphor for patriarchal structure. Palka drew her inspiration from Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and the Supreme Court's 2022 ruling to eliminate the federal right to abortion.

Red Rocks was the first watercolor I ever painted, and it set the direction for everything that followed. Skully Jones and the band take the stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, framed by the iconic sandstone and a crowd that feels equal parts ritual and release. This piece isn’t about mastery or polish. It’s about instinct. Energy. The moment you stop waiting to be ready and start anyway. The skeletons aren’t performing for the crowd, they’re playing through it. Titles, credentials, and expectations fall away. What remains is movement, sound, and the willingness to step forward without knowing what comes next. Red Rocks becomes less a venue and more a proving ground, a place where fear gets drowned out by volume and momentum takes over. Looking back, this piece marks the true beginning of Life After Life. The moment the work stopped being theoretical and became real. When everything extraneous fell away, and only the act itself remained.
