Perched along Ojai’s iconic Foothill Road, this architectural retreat is a sanctuary of light, zen, glass, and serenity—an exquisite union of design and nature. Built in 2017, the single-level residence spans 3,154 ± sqft., with walls of glass that dissolve the boundaries between indoors

and out, framing sweeping vistas of mountains, valley, and sky. Minimalist yet inviting, the interiors strike a balance between polished concrete floors and sculptural quartz surfaces, complemented by the organic beauty of the landscape, which inspires both stillness and creativity.

Re-envisioned in 2022, the property was elevated with the addition of a 1,117 ± sqft. Pavilion—a modern complement housing a showcase-like garage, private yoga and fitness studio, sauna, bathroom, and fireplace— an inspired space where wellness and architecture converge. The main home’s transformation also introduced a media lounge and fourth bedroom, expanding versatility while preserving the home’s refined aesthetic. MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE THIS PLACE?

Leaving this home, and Ojai, has been one of the lengthiest and most difficult decisions we’ve made. The truth is that we both have a wanderlust and we love to live in, create and experience, beautiful places and spaces. I am originally from Canada and grew up with “cottage summers”, which are all that they are reputed to be in the best possible way. A few years ago, we bought a log lake home, built in 1919, near where we summered when I was growing up. We have restored it and fallen in love with it in all Seasons. We’re going to move back to the East Coast to be in proximity to that home, our extended family, and enjoy our next adventures from there.

WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH OJAI?

We knew that we wanted to live in Ojai the first night we drove into town as visitors — and we hadn’t even seen the mountains and valley in daylight! The incredible natural beauty, the quiet, the fresh air, proximity to hiking, ease of access to Ventura and Santa Barbara and the preservation of so much of the original spirit and architecture of the town were all very special to us. The opportunity to buy a property with one-of-a-kind views and create the kind of home we envisioned was irresistible. Everyone we met was welcoming and helpful and that has remained true during the nine years in which we’ve lived here.

DID YOU ENJOY THE NEIGHBORHOOD?

Yes, very much! Ojai is, in the best ways, a town that has remained just that — a little, local town. The addition of several excellent restaurants, proximity to so many services and the unparalleled beauty of the mountains and lake make it a very livable area. Foothill Road is truly one of the most beautiful and peaceful locations you can find. There has not been a single time, driving up the road towards home, that we haven’t had some version of “what an amazing place to live”. Everyone pulls

together when that is needed and they are also very respectful of the desire for quiet and privacy, if that is what is wanted.

ANY PARTICULAR MEMORIES OR EXPERIENCES IN OJAI THAT STAND OUT TO YOU?

Waking up to the vast view of the valley and mountains is an experience that is indelibly etched in our hearts and minds. It is, in our experience, a completely unique environment in which to live — the calls of hunting Great Horned Owls in the Moreton Bay Fig trees at night, contemplating vast starry skies while sitting in the hot tub, and an incredible array of sunsets that are breathtaking. Watching the weather roll across the mountains from the coast and come over the valley is fascinating and so memorable. All of the visits with family and friends, hiking the surrounding trails followed by meals in our courtyard, or at any of our favorite restaurants, have been precious times, as well. It is a place of extraordinary physical beauty and we have been incredibly fortunate to experience it as we have.

WHAT WILL YOU MISS MOST ABOUT OJAI?

All of the above! We cannot think of anywhere we would rather have lived during our West Coast chapter — and we tried a lot of different places before we settled in Ojai! We will miss living in the home that we built from vision to reality and which allows such incredible vistas and easy indoor/ outdoor living. The entire environment, from the mountains, valleys, lake, streams, hiking trails and ranches, we will miss. And, definitely, our favorite people will always have a special place in our hearts. While we won’t maintain a permanent base in Ojai going forward, we will certainly return for visits when we come to see our family on this Coast. I don’t think you ever “leave” Ojai, in spirit, once you’ve spent time here — you just live somewhere else.
