Santa Barbara is a coastal city situated between the steeply rising Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Santa Barbara’s climate is often described as Mediterranean, and the city has been dubbed “The American Riviera”.
The history of Santa Barbara runs deep, through many cultures, across the Santa Barbara Channel, and throughout the city as it stands today. From the basketry and boat-building techniques of the Chumash Indians, to the Spanish Colonial influence that can be seen around every corner, Santa Barbara’s history is vast and truly unique. Spanish settlers gave the city its distinct architectural style in the form of Old Mission Santa Barbara and what is now the County Courthouse — a style that was carried forward by local visionaries after

a massive earthquake destroyed much of the area’s infrastructure in 1925.
Located on a pristine stretch of California’s central coastline, Santa Barbara brings together the Golden State’s Spanish influence, laid-back vibe, and upscale sensibility in a way very few places can.

Santa Barbara is known not only for its broad, sandy beaches, but its exhilarating outdoor adventures, fascinating arts and culture, and an incredible variety of local food and wine, making it a very popular tourist destination today.

This is a wonderful cul-desac with 12 houses and 3 condos. The neighbors would gather 6-8 times a year for block parties. It feels like a “Mr. Rogers neighborhood.” There really is a strong support system; everyone is very friendly and close to each other. After my spouse’s passing, my neighbor brought food and flowers. We all regularly checked in on each other during the pandemic when times were tough.
It’s been a wonderful place to live for the past 26 years. The front door is my access to the world, and the back door leads to the private garden surrounded by hedges. I love gardening and being outdoors. You can feel the ocean breezes outside, and there is a lovely cross-breeze inside with the windows open.
It is a peaceful place that brings me close to nature. The skies
are dark enough to enjoy a telescope in the backyard. I loved being able to see the eclipse.
I enjoy all the birds that come through. I’ve seen barn owls, blue jays, scrub jays, finches, Wilson warblers, thrush birds, mocking birds, road runner on walks, hummingbirds, red tail hawks, sea gulls, geese in the fall and spring.
My beloved spouse passed away 5 years ago, and it is time. I want to move to a senior community where I can make new friends, and have lots of activities to enjoy with others. I want to be proactive and make sure that while I am healthy and can make my own decisions, I set myself up for the future, as I have no family nearby. I am a little nervous, but I am excited for the new living arrangements so that I don’t have to worry about home maintenance. This incredible home is just too big for me now, and I am ready to let the next family enjoy it. It has been a beautiful home for 26 years.
