FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Families, We look forward to seeing you at Fenwick next Thursday, September 24 from 6:00 to 8:05pm for Back to School Night! Students will go home next week with a copy of their schedule for you to bring back with you Thursday night as your guide to the evening. Have no worries if it gets misplaced as we will have duplicate copies on hand for those who need them.

Our program will begin promptly at 6pm in your student’s homeroom. As the students do each morning, I will lead us off with a prayer and some announcements before sending you off to their classes, where you will meet the dedicated faculty who are educating your sons and daughters each day. Our Director of Academic Support and our School and College Counseling team will also be available to meet with you during any block when your student would have a study hall or free period. It is undoubtedly true that parents are the primary educators of their children, and so we honor and appreciate the confidence you have shown by entrusting us with a shared responsibility for their formation and their future. Fall is a great time to learn more about colleges. Take advantage of meeting with the college admission representatives that are visiting Fenwick. Check out the list of who is coming and how to sign up by clicking on the School and College Counseling tile on the Resource Board.

SENIORS

Please schedule a meeting to meet with your school counselor to discuss your plans for next year. If you are applying under Early Action or Early Decision, you need to complete your transcript request form as soon as possible. Here are a few important things to take care of: Standardized Testing Be sure to check the standardized testing requirements for each of your colleges.

If you have not already done so, complete the Student Questionnaire Part 2 and return it to your counselor. Follow up with your teachers regarding your letters of recommendation and be sure to let them know your earliest college application deadline. Schedule an appointment to meet with your counselor.

If you would like to attend a college visit, please sign up in Scoir and obtain a pass signed by the teacher whose class you will miss. Passes can be picked up in the Counseling Office after you sign up for the visit. This must be done prior to the day of the visit. TRAVEL TO FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND april 2027

All Fenwick students are welcome to join us in April of 2027 on a sea-to-mountain adventure from the Mediterranean coast in France, through Provence and up to the Alps, ending in Switzerland! We're visiting famous cities like Monte Carlo in Monaco, Nice, Aix-en-Provence and Geneva with engaging activities organized by our highly rated student travel company ACIS. FRESHMAN CRUSADERS CRUSADERS IN IN TRAINING TRAINING & & SENIOR CRUSADER PEER PEER LEADERS LEADERS Hello Families! My name is Jena Timson, and I am the Assistant Dean of Students. I’m excited to work with your students this year through one of two leadership and community-building courses designed to help our students thrive at Fenwick.

During Freshman Experience Day, the 9 th grade had the opportunity to watch Inside Out 2, a movie that offers a relatable look at what can happen inside a teenager’s mind while navigating high school, friendships, fitting in, and discovering who they are.

Crusaders in Training (CIT), is a required Freshman Course, and Crusader Peer Leaders (CPL) is a Senior Course. The CIT class meets once per cycle and helps our freshmen navigate their first year of high school, build strong relationships, and learn what it means to be a Crusader. Our Senior Peer Leaders meet twice per cycle. During their additional class period, the seniors work closely with me to create and plan lessons and activities for our freshmen. Most importantly, they serve as positive role models and mentors as our 9th graders begin their high school journey.

We used Inside Out 2 as the starting point for our first Crusaders in Training lesson. With the help of our Senior Peer Leaders, we explored the topic of anxiety and what it can look and feel like for teenagers.

I also partner with The Social Institute, a program that uses a student-centered, peerto-peer approach to help high school students develop the skills they need to succeed both in and outside of school. Through engaging, gamified lessons and discussions around topics that are relevant to today’s students, we work together to help our Crusaders make positive choices, build healthy relationships, and become the best versions of themselves.

The students also explored a variety of healthy coping strategies they can use when they are feeling anxious or overwhelmed. Our goal was to create an open and comfortable environment where students could share, listen, and learn from one another.

Students discussed the idea that anxiety is a feeling that everyone experiences at some point. We talked about how anxiety isn’t always a bad thing, it can sometimes motivate us, keep us safe, or help us prepare for something important. At the same time, we discussed how anxiety can become overwhelming and ways we can recognize and manage it when that happens.

It was an engaging and insightful first lesson, and we were impressed by the students’ willingness to participate, reflect, and have meaningful conversations with one another.

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, leadership, and community-building with your students!

This week, the CIT class ran the #WinAtSocial Lesson, Understanding the good and bad sides of ‘Anxiety’, inside and out. As you have time, continue the conversation at home about these important modern-day life skills. Consider encouraging your child to coach up and share their ideas. Here are some questions you can pose to everyone in the family: TOSS UP: What is one thing you wish you could always feel calm about? COACH UP: I heard you talked about the good and not-so-good sides of anxiety. What role does anxiety play in your life? Is there anything I can do to help you manage it? HUDDLE UP: I heard you brainstormed some strategies for managing anxiety. Let’s go around the room and all share one strategy that we lean on when we’re feeling worried or anxious.

HOW WE SPENT OUR SUMMER VACATION FACULTY AND STAFF EDITION While Fenwick’s hallways were a little quieter this summer, our faculty and staff were anything but! From travel and family milestones to professional development, new adventures, favorite traditions, and a little well-earned downtime, the people who make Fenwick such a special place made the most of the months away from school. As we say goodbye to the last official days of summer, here’s a peek at where they went, what they did, and a few of the stories they brought back with them.
