PREFERRED LIES: May be taken as follows, provided the ball is not placed nearer to the hole:
• On the fairway being played – one 'club-length',
• On greens – no further than the longest side of the official score card.
'NO PLAY ZONES': The ball must be dropped without penalty no more than one 'club length' from the nearest point of relief that is not nearer to the hole being played and where the player's stance or swing does not interfere with the obstruction.
• Areas marked by blue stakes as 'Ground Under Repair' (G.U.R.).
• Trees marked with a stake.
'ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS': The ball may be dropped without penalty no more than one 'club length' from the nearest point of relief that is not nearer to the hole being played.
• Animal holes (not human).
• Temporary (casual) water lying anywhere within the 'General Area'.
• Artificially surfaced roads and footpaths.
• Permanent, regularly used tracks caused by the tyre ruts of service vehicles (not golf carts) including the area between the ruts; limited to the outside edges of the tyre ruts.
• Temporary damage caused anywhere within the 'General Area' by the tyres of tractors or other service vehicles.
• 'Immovable obstructions' including all man made pegs.
• Leaves or branches that have been collected into piles or heaps (green keeper's mess) including any scrapes or marks caused by brush removal and any area containing burnt residue thereof.
'LOST' OR 'OUT OF BOUNDS': A ball that is 'Lost' or is 'Out of Bounds' is subject to Rule 18.2 of the Rules of Golf (stroke and distance penalty); with the additional option that a player may elect to play another ball placed and played from a point no more than two club-lengths from the edge of the fairway at the closest point from where the original ball is generally agreed by the playing group to be 'Lost'; or, if 'Out of Bounds', at a point no more than two club-lengths from the edge of the fairway directly adjacent to the point where the originally played ball crossed the boundary. The 'General Penalty' of TWO strokes applies if this option is chosen.
The fence to the right of the 17th 'Putting Green' is the fairway line. A preferred lie may be taken if the ball lies wholly or partially on the fairway. A preferred lie may be placed at a point that is not nearer the hole and where the fence does not interfere with the player's stance or swing. A ball resting outside the fence is 'Out of Bounds'.
Only scrapers provided by the club may be used on the 'Putting Greens'. Scrapes must comply with the Rules for Sand Greens as published by Golf Australia; with the exception that more than two scrapes may be taken to remove footprints and/or other blemishes from the putting surface. Scraping is only allowed when the player's ball lies on, or within one 'club-length' of, the green. Greens are limited at the outside edge of the area swept by the course caretakers.
The practising of chipping and putting is only permitted to and on the Practise Putting Green as designated by the Club.
The portions of bridges within a 'Penalty Area' are part of the penalty area. Balls lying within these areas are subject to Rule 17 of the Rules of Golf.
No Motorised Carts within 5 metres of the front of the green and 2 metres of the remainder of green.
Terms within quotation marks are defined in the Rules of Golf as issued from time to time by the R & A Golf Club of St Andrews.
Distance Markers
Red Pegs – 100 metres to centre of green
White Pegs – 150 metres to centre of green
The atmosphere is very relaxed with the emphasis being more on the social aspect of the game rather than playing skill. We welcome any players, male or female, new or experienced. Play commences at 4:00pm. Anyone interested should be at the clubhouse by 3:30pm.
Scroungers events also continue on each Wednesday and Friday through the summer with start of play being delayed as the days become longer.
At the end of each month the person with the best scores for the month will be awarded the Fred Bremner Monthly Award.
For further details regarding Scroungers contact Paul Burns on 0458 201 922.
