Die verandering in naam stel die groep nou in staat om sy uitbreidingsplanne ten volle te laat realiseer en het reeds
aangekondig dat verskeie nuwe titels in Gauteng, NoordWes en Kwazulu-Natal geopen gaan word. Teen volgende week sal daar 76 weeklikse digitale Veldbrand koerante wees. Al die koerante word in Clocolan in die Vrystaat saamgestel en bestuur. Verskeie voormalige Rekord koerante is ook gedurende die tyd saamgesmelt om meer waarde vir lesers en adverteerders te ontsluit. Die bitter mooi herinnerings en oomblikke gedeel met mnr Andre Pottas as onderwyser, departementshoof, kollega en vriend van Witteberg, sal ons altyd bybly. Na 28 jaar en 5 maande tree hy as onderwyser uit. Sy gelyke is moeilik te vind en hy gaan beslis onthou word vir sy besondere taalvernuf, skerp kwinkslae en lojale karakter. Elke Witteberger kan vandag getuig hoe meneer Pottas inspraak gehad het in ons opvoeding en dat hy gewys het hoe 'n positiewe ingesteldheid teenoor enige situasie jou leer om ten volle te leef. Mag die opgewondenheid van elke sonsopkoms meneer elke dag ontvang. Soos enige ander dag het my laaste dag by Witteberg aangebreek, die son skyn, die klok lui en skielik is die dag se grootsheid my oor. Die cliché lui dat die oog die hart se venster is, maar vandag was dit vir my net te werklik. Die kyke in kollegas en kinders se oë, was vandag vir my gemoed net te veel. Soveel genade, dankbaarheid, lofprysings, geskenke, noem maar op, het ek nie regtig verdien nie. Dit wat ek vandag kon meemaak, moet sekerlik wees soos 'n blinde wat braille lees. Die oë, net soos die vingers wat die voellees doen, kan nie lieg oor wat gelees word nie. Ek is eintlik maar net nog 'n gewone mens/ onderwyser. Witteberg het my gemaak wat ek is, en as dit suksesvol is, dankie aan alle Wittebergers. Ek verlaat die skool
vandag met 'n gevoel van dankbaarheid, maar die skool sal maar sukkel om my te verlaat. My klaskamer was vir my soos 'n verhoog en die kinders was my gehoor. My gehore deur die jare het my elke dag tot nuwe hoogtes gedwing. Geen klasaanbieding was vir my sleg nie, want die jeug is soos sponse wat reg is vir kennis, jy kan en durf geen kind onderskat nie. Kennis is verseker nie net boekekennis nie, daar is soveel waarhede en sommer net laggeleenthede wat wag om gedeel te word. Daar is net te veel stories in die lewe om te deel dat 'n mens jou kosbare verteltyd aan die negatiewe dinge rondom jou moet afstaan. Aan my hoof, mnr. Hannes, kollegas, Afrikaans Departement, vriende, ouers, oud-leerlinge, en almal wat die lewe as 'n voorreg sien, julle maak mens Menswaardig en Geliefd en Bevoorregd. Hou by die BLOU. Man who murdered his cop girlfriend sentenced BE THLEHEM, REITZ | LEBOHANG TLABA The Free State man who murdered his girlfriend, a member of the SAPS, has been sentenced in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court. Moscow Yika, 31, was jailed for 15 years. According to the provincial spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Captain Christopher Singo, Yika is alleged to have taken his victim, Mita Malinga, from a house where she was with friends on Friday, August 20, 2021. Thirty minutes after Yika and Malinga left the house, the 30-year-old woman called her friend and told her Yika was assaulting her. The call cut off right after that. Concerned, Malinga’s friends went out searching for the couple. They discovered Malinga’s body
inside the swimming pool in Reitz early the next morning. “The deceased was a police officer at the time of the incident working at the local police station in Reitz. The matter was reported to the police and Yika was arrested the same morning by the local police in Reitz. “The case was handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Bethlehem for further investigation which culminated in the conviction of Yika on Friday, June 3, 2022,” Singo said. The provincial head of the Hawks, Major General Mokgadi Bokaba, expressed his appreciation of the work done by local police and the Hawks to ensure a conviction. media@veldbrandmediasa.co.za
The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in the Free State is investigating fraud cases against three former provincial government officials. Two suspects, Thembisile Enie Ntshengila (38) and Zamambo Thulisule Mkhize (35) worked as senior administrative clerks at the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development in Warden, while the third suspect, Modiehi Rebecca Mokoena (57), worked as a human resource officer at the Department of Education in Sasolburg. Their arrest for allegedly defrauding their respective departments following an ongoing investigation. They reportedly committed the crime during their employment. Capt. Christopher Singo, the spokesperson of the Hawks, said the trio faces charges of fraud, forgery, uttering and money laundering. Mokoena was granted bail of R5 000 during her appearance in Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on 26 May while Ntshengila and Mkhize were released on bail of R4 000 each during their appearance on 2 June. Mokoena’s hearing is set for 24 June with Mkhize and Ntshengila is set to reappear on 11 August in
the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court. Singo said preliminary investigation reveals due to fraudulent activities the two departments were prejudiced and suffered a loss of more than R1 million each. He said according to the investigation Mkhize and Ntshengila allegedly defrauded the department’s third-party funds received from clients of the department. “The suspects were entrusted to receive and bank the money for the department. They allegedly used some of the money for their own benefit,” said Singo. This happened between 2018 and 2020. Mokoena, who was working as a Human Resource Officer at the Fezile Dabi District, allegedly created ghost employees in the department’s system. According to Singo, the suspect allegedly used personal details of her family members to create ghost employees and salary advice. “She allegedly used her personal banking details as if they belonged to those ghost employees. The suspect made salary payments to different bank accounts that belonged to her,” said Singo. The crime took place between the period of 2006 and 2018. media@veldbrandmediasa.co.za

Genade ons het mekaar se hare getrek, en nie eens te praat van verkiesings in die ou dae nie. Ons het gestry dat die spoeg spat en mekaar darem maar goed sleggesê as die ander ou van jou verskil. Ons het oor letterlik alles gestoei; die politiek, rugby, godsdiens, oor kinders grootmaak, karre, die toekoms, die rol van Suid-Afrika in die Angola oorlog en sommer goed so simple soos botter vs margarine en ander lawwe dinge ook. En die ou wat nie saam met jou gestem het nie was 'n propperse dwaas. En boeta as jy nou lekker pret wil hê, gaan kyk op verskeie groepe op Facebook, dáár raak dit rof. En net toe ek dink die mense begin verstand kry en stry minder, toe tref Covid ons. Ai, en daar gaan dit - soos die kinders sou sê - "viral". Die oorsprong van die virus, die merk van die dier en dan natuurlik die groot gunsteling: Die inenting!!! Lekker man lekker, "no dull moment"! Tans is dit rustig, maar wag maar, dit kom weer. En weet jy wat? Elke enkele woord wat daaroor gespreek is was net 'n mors van tyd. Hoekom redeneer met 'n dwaas? Is dit die moeite werd? Die beste antwoord wat ek kan kry, is Ja én Nee. "Moenie 'n dwaas se vraag op net so 'n dwase manier beantwoord nie; hy sal dink jy is soos hy. Beantwoord 'n dwaas se vraag op net so 'n dwase manier, anders dink hy hy het wysheid." Hoerkind: Die memoires van ’n randeier | HERMAN LATEGAN | R280.00 Oor die boek: Herman Lategan word wyd gerespekteer as joernalis, en is beide berug én beroemd vir sy uitgesprokenheid en kwinkslae oor alles onder die son. In Hoerkind vertel hy sy lewensverhaal uit die hart uit, sonder doekies omdraai. Hy is een warm Februarienag in 1964 in ’n losieshuis in Kaapstad verwek – buite die eg. Van jongs af het hy soos ’n weggooimens gevoel, want hy is deur grootmense wat die lewe op onvaste voet betree het, van die een stel hande na die ander aangegee. En vir menige werkgewer word hy die nagmerrie wat hulle die ergste vrees. Hoerkind is ’n aangrypende relaas oor verlies én oorwinning wat jou sal laat lag, en jou hart ’n paar keer breek. Jy sal jou kop skud oor die wreedheid van ’n wêreld waar mense aan mekaar uitgelewer is, maar jy sal verwonderd staan oor die omvang van goedheid, juis omdat mense op mekaar aangewese is.

| KITCHEN DELIGHT One-pot winter meals don’t have to be boring. This South Africa favourite, boerewors with an Italian twist, will change things up in the kitchen when it comes to your winter meals. INGREDIENTS: • 1 x 400g can Rhodes Quality Tomato Italian • 500 g boerewors • 1 onion, chopped • 2 cloves garlic, crushed • 330 ml ( 1⅓ C) prepared chicken stock • 250 ml (1 C) water • 250 g spaghetti • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper • to serve: grated parmesan cheese METHOD: 1. Remove the boerewors sausage meat from its casings and break into chunks. 2. Heat a large saucepan, and f ry the boerewors meat until it begins to brown. 3. Add the onion and the garlic and fry until the onion softens. Drain any excess fat. 4. Add the Rhodes Quality Tomato Italian Style, prepared chicken stock and the water. Bring the sauce to a boil. 5. Add the spaghetti. Cook over medium heat, stirring regularly to prevent sticking, for 15 minutes or until the pasta is cooked, adding extra hot water to the saucepan if necessary. Season to taste. 6. Just before serving, sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
Youth Day commemorates the Soweto youth uprising of 16 June 1976. In 1975 protests started in African schools after a directive from the then Bantu Education Department that Afrikaans had to be used on an equal basis with English as a language of instruction in secondary schools. The June 16, 1976, Uprising that began in Soweto and spread countrywide profoundly changed the socio-political landscape in South Africa. Events that triggered the uprising can be traced back to policies of the Apartheid government that resulted in the introduction of the Bantu Education Act in 1953. The rise of the Black Consciousness Movement (BCM) and the formation of South African Students Organisation (SASO) raised the political consciousness of many students while others joined the wave of antiApartheid sentiment within the student community. When the language of Afrikaans alongside English was made compulsory as a medium of instruction in schools in 1974, black students began mobilizing themselves. On 16 June 1976 between 3000 and 10 000 students mobilized by the South African Students Movement's Action Committee supported by the BCM marched peacefully to demonstrate and protest against the government’s directive. The march was meant to culminate at a rally in Orlando Stadium. On their pathway, they were met by heavily armed police who fired teargas and later live ammunition on demonstrating students. This resulted in a widespread revolt that turned into an uprising against the government. While the uprising began in Soweto, it spread across the country and carried on until the following year. The aftermath of the events of June 16, 1976, had dire consequences for the Apartheid government. Images of the police firing on peacefully demonstrating students led an international revulsion against South Africa as its brutality was exposed. The 2022 call to action continue to encourage the youth and media to follow Youth Month conversations and engage in all platforms.

In addition to her involvement with WCMA, she will also act as co-conductor for the West Coast Youth Orchestra and made her debut as conductor at the Classical Festival (Klassieke Koelkamers) at the Koelkamers Theatre in Paternoster on 22 May 2022. She has excellent training and experience as a conductor and now she can put it all into practice and grow further. She will be collaborating on all repertoire with the orchestra director, Carina Brown and is already busy composing a piece for the Senior Orchestra. This piece will be introduced and played at one of the orchestra’s future performances. Shadé is the perfect appointment. We can describe her as a sparkling bundle of energy and fire and the children enjoy working with her, because they feel the energy. WCYO is looking forward to the road ahead with her. She will also focus on improving the Jazz Band’s improvisation techniques and provide assistance to the players. She is open to discovering and developing new talent to the maximum. Shadé Jansen
