Bethesda is pleased to offer Foundational Family Services for children/youth and their families who are registered with Children’s Behaviour Services (CBS) at Bethesda and ANY family across the province who is registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) up until their 18th birthday. At Bethesda, we believe in the power of collaboration, quality care, and innovation to unlock your child’s full potential to live their best life. NEW

A simpler way to register for fall group services We heard your feedback and are making registration easier for families. Instead of completing a separate registration form for every group, you will now complete one registration for all fall recreational and clinical services within your child’s age group. You can select your first, second and third program choices in the same form. Programs are not filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Staff will review all registrations and consider each child’s program choices, needs, readiness, recent access to services, group fit and available staffing. Registering early does not guarantee placement. When there is a high level of interest, a lottery may be used to help keep the process fair. Our goal is to place each child in a group where they can feel supported, included and successful.

Group Selection Process We know how important it is for your child to be part of a group that feels right for them—and we work hard to make this happen in a way that is fair, thoughtful, and flexible. As such, we do not assign kids on a first-come first-serve basis and encourage you to register even if the group is full as we do look at the waitlist when making group selections. If we receive a high number of registration requests we may use a lottery system to help keep the process fair and to know which programs to offer again.

Each child is unique, and so is every group. When reviewing registrations, we take into account:

• Group readiness and fit: Some groups have prerequisites or require a certain level of support (e.g., 3 children to 1 staff ratio)

• Group dynamics: We consider how each child’s needs, personality, and strengths will blend with others in the group

• Staffing: We match our team’s experience and knowledge with the needs

of the group, considering which staff members have worked with your child before or have the right expertise for the group’s goals

We give priority to children and youth who have had limited or no access to services recently—for example, those who are new to Bethesda or haven’t attended groups in some time. This helps us ensure more families have the chance to benefit from our supports.

Our aim is always to create the best possible experience for your child while keeping our programs safe, welcoming, and inclusive. We understand that navigating services can be challenging, and we’re here to support you in finding the right programs for your child. 25 Acts of Compassion & Collaboration For 25 years, Bethesda’s Children and Youth Services team has had the privilege of supporting children, youth, families, and caregivers across Niagara. As we celebrate this milestone, we want to recognize the people, partnerships and everyday acts of kindness that help build a stronger, more caring community. We invite you to share stories of compassion and collaboration that made a meaningful difference in the lives of children, youth, and families. Whether it’s a neighbour lending a hand, a teacher going above and beyond, a young person showing leadership, or organizations working together to support others, these moments deserve to be celebrated. Twenty-five stories will be selected to help commemorate 25 years of Children and Youth Services and will be recognized during Bethesda’s 25th Anniversary Open House on October 1, 2026.

What is a Brief Consultation Brief Consultations are single or time-limited (1-3) individualized sessions that are focused on supporting parents/caregivers with a specific need or goal. Examples of topics that can be discussed during a brief consultation appointment include, but are not limited to:

Communication Drop-In Support

PRT Communication Drop-In Have you and your child previously been enrolled in Pivotal Response Training (PRT) and could benefit from support in how to apply PRT strategies to social interactions with peers? Co-Regulation: Helping Your Youth Manage Big Emotions

NEW

Big emotions can be overwhelming for both youth and caregivers. This workshop explores how the brain and nervous system respond to stress and emotional overwhelm, and how these responses influence emotions and behaviour. Caregivers will gain a greater understanding of the science behind emotional regulation and be introduced to practical co-regulation strategies that support connection, foster emotional safety, and encourage responding with curiosity during challenging moments. Transitions, Changes, and Losses Over the course of a day one goes through an incalculable amount of transitions and changes. Transitions and changes are common challenges for children/youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This can often create moments of stress that derail plans and cause ongoing stress for caregivers. From daily transitions to ongoing grief, in this workshop a Behaviour Therapist (BT) and Psychotherapist introduce skills and strategies for caregivers to utilize in everyday transitions (i.e., morning routine) and helps to prepare for communicating and working through sudden or potential loss (i.e., moving, loss of employment, death and other grief). Helping Teens Cope with Depression A psycho-educational workshop designed for parents and caregivers of teenagers who are struggling with depression and/or depressive symptoms. This workshop will explore depression from a mental health perspective, highlighting the differences between depression and other emotions such as sadness or grief, as well as the criteria that indicate a potential clinical diagnosis of a depressive disorder or episode. Some basic coping strategies for depression will be shared, as well as providing some general tips for caregivers who are supporting a teen with depression. DATE/TIME

Emily will explore trauma-informed care, coregulation, environmental structure and strength-based interventions that help rebuild agency and resilience.

Play Zone Play Zone is offered in a different format than the typical Recreational Group Programs you are familiar with. This service has been developed for families with children who are not able to participate in group settings. We carefully review registrants and the waitlist to ensure this is an appropriate fit for each child who is placed in this program.

Play Zone Play Zone is designed for children and youth who find it challenging to participate in group activities. The focus is on providing a fun, engaging, and safe environment where children can enjoy tailored activities at their own pace in a 1:1 ratio. Limited spots available. AGES

Through games, obstacle courses, and creative role-play, children build skills while having loads of fun. Create your Confidence This group is for pre-teens who want to explore the importance of self-care while building, hands on skills in a supportive group setting. Participants will learn skills such as hairstyling, haircare and makeup and other self-care techniques that promote self care and confidence. These skills are not only fun and creative, but also transferable as pre-teens grow into adulthood. Each week, learners will be introduced to a new self-care skill and have opportunities to develop and practice further. Blossom Together This workshop is designed to support preteen and early teenage girls (ages 10–13) in building self-esteem and confidence. Participants will explore what it means to understand who they are, what matters to them, and how to show up for themselves in everyday life. The workshop will introduce practical, age-appropriate strategies to help participants navigate challenges that may arise during this stage of development, including common experiences such as peer comparison, building confidence, developing body awareness, and managing social pressures at school and in online environments. The Music Crew Game Show Showdown Teen Lounge

Teen Test Kitchen Social Skills and Boundaries for Teens with Autism (DBTInformed Group)

The Music Crew This group is designed for teens who may have previous experience of knowing how to play an instrument or want a space where they can practice their talent and show others. It will be a safe space for teens to express themselves through music and collaborate with other “musicians” to share and create new music. If your teen has an instrument/access to an instrument they are welcome to bring it! If you don’t have an instrument that’s okay, we also encourage singing and using electronic programs to create sounds. Teens should be comfortable in a group of 3 teens to 1 staff.

This Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed group helps teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) build social confidence and relationship skills. We focus on interpersonal effectiveness: how to ask for what you need, say no without guilt, set healthy boundaries, handle conflict with peers, family and others, and build stronger relationships. This group is led by a Registered Psychotherapist, and uses DBT, a proven approach for teens who struggle with big emotions and social communication. Navigate to bethesdaservices.com > Select Children & Youth Services in the menu bar > Select Client Login from the secondary menu bar. 2. Select Membership Level > Family/Child/Youth Services - Free > Click Next. 3. Enter your Email Address > Click I’m not a robot > Click Next. If you will be creating accounts for more than one child, please register each child with a unique email address. 4. Enter the requested client information for your child > Click Next. 5. Review and confirm the membership information > Click Confirm. 6. Once your membership application has been reviewed and accepted by a Service Coordinator, you will receive an email from admin@portal.bethesdaservices.com with a temporary password. 7. Please log in using the provided temporary password and immediately change your password to one you will more easily remember by clicking the Change password button. 8. Enter your current and new password (new password must include at least 12 characters, upper and lower case letters, at least one number and at least one special character.) > Click Save.
