From The President With our families, we celebrate the New Year on January 1st as a chance to restart or begin again. From a business perspective, a lot of you start your fiscal year October 1 – so maybe we should look at that as the Business New Year. With that in mind, I am sure that you will notice in our packet that we are offering a variety of new programs to help you to start your new business year off right – programs to motivate your team, get them training or even support for all that you do! One program is The Purpose Driven Playbook. There is a great article inside this newsletter – so please be sure and read it! We have also added new programs for the Carlisle Area Personnel Association (CAPA), including a program on compliance issues that offers SHRM credits – please see the flyer inside! These training with discussion sessions include lunch and parking if needed, also offer a great chance to get your HR questions answered and network with your peers. Special thanks to JFC Staffing, which is our sponsor for the CAPA programs this year, which run September through June. Another monthly session is the Conversation Café – again please see the information on the enclosed flyer. These training offerings are free and open to members and guests – this fall, we are focusing on how to network as the presentation topic. They are being held at the Square Bean Coffee Shop in downtown Carlisle.

The Chamber Clipper
The Chamber Clipper is back! The Chamber Clipper is HUGE 12”x15” postcard which is mailed to over 5000 homes in the Carlisle Area in early December. As a member, you have the exclusive opportunity to purchase an ad space and get your message into the hands of thousands of potential customers.

We are primarily a farm animal sanctuary with a focus on horses. The animals we care for have emotional and spiritual needs as well as physical (some of them have been severely abused and neglected). We utilize multiple holistic methods of healing to help them in conjunction with contemporary veterinary medicine.

The Salvation Army opened the doors of its brand new Family Store located on 469 E. North Street. Many community members came out to enjoy the ribbon cutting ceremony and to be the first in line to shop!
We hosted our first ever Conversation Cafe at the Square Bean Carlisle. Steve Riccio and Sherry Ritchey of Dickinson College spoke about “Networking Essentials: Stop Collecting Business Cards and Start Building Relationships.”

Important Chamber Keycard Program Announcement Introducing the Carlisle Chamber Community App We at the Chamber are very excited to announce some significant upgrades to our Keycard program. The Carlisle Chamber is developing a mobile app for chamber and community members. This new app will allow community members to easily find member jobs, news, and events. It will have an in-app business directory to make it even easier for community members to find your organization on-the-go. One of the pieces that we’re most excited about is that this App will replace our current keycard program. It will allow your business to offer special discounts to the whole Carlisle community with no additional cost to your business. Here are some important details you should know:
Why has the Chamber chosen to change the Keycard program and use an App?
One of the core elements of our mission is to provide enhanced benefits for our members. With the feedback received from our members in recent surveys, we believe that this is a way that we can serve our members by giving a new opportunity for members to be promoted to the Carlisle community. The number of individuals who own smartphones is growing daily and we believe that by using that point of access we can better promote our member businesses. Chamber President, Michelle Crowley, spoke on WITF Smart Talk Road Trip at Allenberry Resort along with resort owner, Mike Kennedy, and Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau’s Shireen Farr.
The 11th Annual Mega Mixer was held on September 14 at the Army Heritage Education Center. Many sponsors made this event possible including Members 1st, Konhaus, UPMC Pinnacle, and Orrstown Bank. A special thank you to Market Cross Pub & Brewery and Classic Drycleaners for donating beverages.
When will this App launch?
We plan to launch our app on October 18, 2017 at the Carlisle Chamber Annual Business Meeting. Attendees will get the first opportunity to download our app and win free tickets to our Holiday Mixer by helping us spread the word on social media.
How should I prepare for the new App?
1. Please assess your current keycard offer and decide if this is a deal that you’re able to offer to the entire community as the number of individuals who will be accessing your deal will increase. Some options to make this increase in traffic more feasible include giving a smaller discount, having your discount last a shorter period of time, or having customers need to buy a larger amount of goods to receive the discount. 2. Notify Your Employees. Please notify your employees that keycards will no longer be accepted at your location and that customers will now show your deal on the community app to redeem. 3. If you are not currently offering a discount, consider using this opportunity for the first time to help new customers find your business or try new products.
How can I set up a new discount or change my current discount?
1. Log into your Member Information Center (MIC) at carlislechamber.org. 2. Click “Keycard Deals” on the left hand side. 3. Click the blue “Add Keycard Deal” button to set up a new discount or “manage keycard deals” to change your current discount.
What should I do if I do not wish to offer discounts to the whole Carlisle Community, just Chamber Members?
We conducted a recent survey and discovered that some members are unable to offer discounts to the entire Carlisle Community. We are working on an alternative that will only be available to Chamber members. Please be patient with us while we develop a solution. During this time, kindly remove your discount using the MIC so that no community members will come to your business using the app.
How will we get the new App?
Starting October 18, you will be able to download the App from your smartphone’s App Store by searching for “Carlisle Chamber.” We will be launching a campaign to notify the public of this new App.

Dilip was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He attended college in the USA, earning a B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Florida, a Ph.D. in Organic and Polymer Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University, and a M.Div. at Wesley Theological Seminary. After a 12-year career as an industrial scientist, he surrendered to his avocation – connecting, influencing, and enriching others through the power of the spoken word. Dilip and his wife reside in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.
Dilip is the author of The Path of the Genie: Your Journey to Your Heart’s Desire and coauthor of Public Speaking with Power, Passion, and Purpose . He was twice a finalist at Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking, placing second in 1992. In 20052006 he served as International President of Toastmasters.
Dr. Dilip is on the speaking circuit for the Institute of Management Studies, is an adjunct faculty member for Central Penn College in the areas of oral communication and Comparative Religion, is associate pastor of Middlesex United Methodist Church and is a part of Leadership Cumberland’s guest faculty.
