The name “Ballaarat” is derived from the Wathaurung Aboriginal name for the area, balla arat, meaning “resting place”. Built on fortunes made from the 1850s gold rush, Ballarat is known for its rich history, culture and beautifully preserved Victorian era architecture. You’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in Europe.
Ballarat is still yielding treasure today, in the form of quirky shops, hidden bars and worldclass cafés and restaurants... not to mention our lively music, art and performance scene. Best of Ballarat has been created to help visitors and locals make the most of what Ballarat has to offer... so start exploring!!

#romancingtheskullAn examination of the body, juxtaposing detailed anatomical drawings of human diseases with artworks inspired by traditional Chinese medicine. The exhibition sensitively brings together two very different ways of observing the body and approaching human health, allowing for reflection on the fragility of life and the inevitability of death.
Lauren Black continues her work with diseased human remains, but shifts our engagement as she explores the territory of anatomical theatre, dissection, the complexities of disease and the unknown body.

Are you ready Ballarat? Nouvelle Orleans and Nellie Minnelli present Empire Of Sin. A den of debauchery and decadence. It’s 1924, a steamy night in New Orleans. Prohibition is in full swing and so are the parties and speakeasies. Bathtub gin abounds and a raid from the police is always a risk. Will you take it? Music, burlesque, song, satire, whiskey, rhinestones and a whole lot of talent. A sumptuous variety show, a tribute to the glorious performers that were stars along the famous streets of The French Quarter, in bars in Bourbon St and in the infamous Storyville red light district. It was an age of miracles, an age of art, an age of excess, an age of satire. A whole race going hedonistic, deciding on pleasure. Join us. We’re also taking bookings for dinner, open from 5pm.
