Round & About supporting Samaritans
WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY - 10 September 1 in 4 of us will experience suicidal thoughts in our lifetime. But those thoughts can be interrupted.
This World Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September, Samaritans is encouraging us all to notice when someone may be struggling, take action and start a conversation — because a small interruption could help save a life. If you’re worried that someone might be suicidal, don’t be afraid to ask. You don’t need to be an expert or have all the answers. Simply checking in, asking a question or starting a conversation can show someone that they are not alone and that you care.
Small actions can make a big difference. If you’re finding life tough, remember that you don’t have to face it alone. Samaritans is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,

Tidy up – but don’t tidy everything! Cut back faded perennials and remove any dead or damaged growth, but leave some seed heads standing. They provide winter interest and can be a valuable food source for garden birds. Plant for spring September is the perfect time to plant spring-flowering bulbs such as daffodils, crocuses, tulips and alliums. Plant them while the soil is still warm and they will have plenty of time to establish before winter. Keep harvesting Pick apples, beans, courgettes, tomatoes and other crops regularly. Don’t let those last summer vegetables go to waste – freeze, pickle or preserve any surplus. Think about new plants The cooler weather makes September a great month for planting perennials, shrubs and trees. The soil is still warm, while autumn rain can help new plants settle in. Save seeds Collect seeds from your favourite flowers and vegetables once they have dried. Store them somewhere cool and dry and label them carefully ready for next year’s garden. A little job for this month… Plant a few pots of herbs close to the kitchen door. Parsley, chives and mint can continue providing fresh flavour well into autumn.

Don’t be too quick to clear away fallen leaves – make your own leaf mould and you’ll have wonder ful, natural compost for the garden.

Win Tickets to Tony Bennett & Gaga: The Duets Songbook comes to The Mill Arts Centre as audiences celebrate 100 years of one of the world's greatest entertainers. Audiences in Banbury will have the opportunity to celebrate the legendary singer's remarkable career through a unique live jazz production inspired by his final and most celebrated musical partnership. Fresh from its London debut, Bennett & Gaga: The Duets Songbook arrives at The Mill Arts Centre on Thursday 24 September 2026, recreating the warmth, elegance and intimacy of a classic jazz club while celebrating the music from Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's Grammy Awardwinning collaborations.
Inspired by the acclaimed albums Cheek to Cheek and Love for Sale, the production brings together a live jazz ensemble, exceptional vocalists and an atmospheric blend of traditional theatre seating and cabaret-style tables, creating an immersive evening that transports audiences into the world of America's great jazz clubs. Tony Bennett's career spanned more than eight decades. Renowned for timeless recordings including I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Bennett became a champion of the Great American Songbook. Bennett collaboration with Lady Gaga became one of the most celebrated musical stories of the last decade.

Bennett Celebration Andrew Bourn (Vocalist & Producer) said: "Tony Bennett devoted his life to keeping the Great American Songbook alive. His partnership with Lady Gaga introduced this music to new audiences, and reminded us that great songs never go out of style. Expect an evening of sophisticated live music, all presented in a relaxed jazz club atmosphere unlike a traditional theatre concert.
For your chance to win 4 x tickets please answer the following question:
