GROW exemplar questions Introduction This document provides a range of example questions you may use when applying the GROW model. The questions are prompts only. You do not need to use them all and you should adapt your language to suit the context and the individual. Remember that effective coaching relies on listening carefully and responding to what you hear.

Goal The goal stage clarifies what the individual wants to achieve. You may wish to ask: •

What would you like to achieve from this conversation?

What would success look like for you?

What specifically would you like to improve or develop?

What difference would achieving this make?

How will you know when you have reached your goal?

What impact would this have on your team or pupils?

What would achieving this enable you to do differently?

Where helpful, encourage the individual to make the goal specific and realistic.

Reality The reality stage explores the current situation. You may wish to ask: •

What is happening at the moment?

What have you already tried?
