PARADISE IS A Breath Away
For visitors seeking local treasures, Isla Botanica is more than a souvenir; it is a continuation of the Bermuda experience. A candle lit at home becomes a reminder of island calm, and a diffuser transforms a daily routine into a moment of escape.
As Bermuda continues to celebrate homegrown creativity, Isla Botanica emerges as an elegant, mindful, and unmistakably Bermudian addition to the island’s luxury collection. It captures a timeless truth: paradise isn’t a destination, it’s a feeling. Isla Botanica
Memories will linger forever after one’s love affair with Bermuda especially when you have something special to remind you. Take that feeling home with Isla Botanica, a wellbeing brand redefining island-inspired luxury through scent, ritual, and sustainability.
Founded by Bermudian entrepreneur Rebecca Singleton, mother of three and owner of the iconic Bermuda shorts brand TABS—Isla Botanica was born from the belief that the restorative spirit of island life should not be limited to holidays alone. Drawing inspiration from Bermuda’s natural beauty and slower rhythms, the brand transforms everyday moments into sensory escapes.
Each product, from hand-poured candles and elegant diffusers to indulgent body care rituals is crafted in small batches using natural essential oils and sustainably sourced ingredients. More than just a fragrance, Isla Botanica offers an experience that encourages intention, presence and reflection.
Every scent story is a captured island memory. From the heady sweetness of tropical flowers blooming under a full moon to the crisp freshness of dawn dew and the golden warmth of a sunset, these aromas reflect the authentic rhythms of Bermuda.

developed, providing an accurate pathway in good and bad weather for the flying boats.
With the flight from New York to Bermuda taking just under five hours, it is interesting that the Bermuda Trade Development Board quickly changed its slogan “From frost to flowers in 48 hours” – which referred to the two-day journey by boat – to “From frost to flowers in four point eight hours”.
The First Passenger Flights To and From Bermuda
By Horst Augustinovic
On June 16th, 1937, two flying boats took off from Baltimore and headed for Bermuda – five hours away. It was the launch of air passenger services between the US and Bermuda by Pan-American Airways’ ‘Bermuda Clipper’ and Imperial Airways’ ‘Cavalier’. Both planes were filled to capacity – the ‘Bermuda Clipper’ with twenty-five passengers and a crew of seven and the ‘Cavalier’ with nineteen passengers and a crew of four.
Captain Harold E. Grey was in command of the ‘Bermuda Clipper’ and Captain William Neville Cumming flew the ‘Cavalier’. While it was a real feat to find Bermuda during the early flights of 1930 and 1931, by 1937 direction-finding radio equipment with a range of more than 2,000 miles had been
The Sikorsky S-42 flying boat NC 16735 ‘Bermuda Clipper’, after landing in Bermuda on June 16th 1937. Pan American Airway photographs.
Of course Bermuda had to prepare for the air passenger services and those efforts went all the way back to 1928 when Governor Lt. Gen. Sir Louis Jean Bols informed the House of Assembly that the Air Ministry in London was conducting an investigation into the possibility of developing air links between Bermuda and the US. Four years later Darrell’s Island was surveyed and a plan produced which called for five hangars, only one of which was eventually built, just in time for the opening of the airport in June 1937.
Darrell’s Island became extremely busy during World War II. This photograph shows five Boeing 314s, two at the jetties and three tied up at moorings; one Vought Sikorsky VS-44 at mooring #7; four Consolidated PB2Y Coronados and three Consolidated PBY Catalinas, all parked on the ramp.

With approximately 34 sandy beaches and coves stretching from east to west, Bermuda is famous for its blushing pink shores. Some beaches show just a dusting of pink, while others glow with handfuls of it. Ever wonder why the sand is pink? It starts with microscopic marine organisms called foraminifera. These tiny creatures have red-pink shells that, over time, break down and mix with white sand made of crushed coral and limestone. The result is a soft, blush-colored sand—most visible in bright sunlight or when the sand is wet—created entirely by natural reef processes.
The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute features an informative display on Bermuda’s sand grades and characteristics. BUEI.bm

A Little Cup Match History
It all started as a way to celebrate Emancipation Day on August 1, 1834, marking the end of slavery in Bermuda. Back then, people from Somerset and St. George’s held picnics and played friendly Somerset Fans, Cup Match cricket matches to mark the occasion.
Thursday July 30 & Friday July 31, Somerset Cricket Club in Sandy’s
Every year Bermuda celebrates Cup Match— a two-day holiday filled with camping, boating, swimming and most importantly cricket. The festivities rollover into the weekend making it a four day celebration islandwide. During this time fans wear their team’s colors: red and navy for Somerset, sky blue and navy for St. George’s, showing their team spirit.
There is a arnival-like energy across the island. You can expect to hear music, air horns, and team rivalry everywhere you go. Many people camp out, some right along the roadside. Mariners can often be found rafted up at popular spots like Castle Islands and Paradise Lakes. On Sunday, there is a big party on the water at Mangrove Bay that usually features a massive raft up and a floating concert.
The Rum Swizzle and Dark ‘n Stormy are the official drinks of the weekend.
July is “unbearably hot” in Bermuda, please
In 1901, during a game between two local groups called Friendly Societies, they agreed to play for a trophy each year. They raised money, and in 1902, they introduced a silver cup, officially starting Cup Match.
In 1947, Bermuda made two public holidays around August 1st. In 1999, one was named Emancipation Day, honoring the end of slavery. The other, Somers Day, celebrates Admiral Sir George Somers, whose shipwreck in Bermuda in 1609 led to the island’s British settlement.
Today, these two days are dedicated to cricket matches between the St. George’s and Somerset clubs called Cup Match.

10. A coconut matting was used on the concrete wicket to keep it in place.

EXPLORE OUR Storied Landscapes
Fort St. Catherine, St. George’s
Itʼs time to explore beyond the shoreline and discover Bermudaʼs forts, caves, and nature reserves. With nearly 90 forts scattered across the island, dramatic coastal parks, and underground wondersʼcarved over millennia, this is an island that rewards curiosity.
You don’t have to be a history buff or hikerʼto enjoy it just pick your pace and dive in. Here’s how to spend a day (or several) discovering some of Bermuda’s most captivating spots.
Historic Forts & Coastal Defenses
ST. GEORGEʼS
Fort St. Catherine
If there’s one fort that truly brings Bermuda’s past to life, it’s Fort St. Catherine. Packed with historic exhibits, artifacts, and a well preserved interior, this stone built fort houses a museum and is one of Bermudas most impressive structures and in the old artillery store there is an exhibit of the fort’s development over four centuries. Other Forts worth adding on to this visit are Gates Fort and Alexandra Battery located within walking distance.
Getting here:
From Kings Square take Duke of York Street, take a left at Somers Super Market towards Duke of Kent Street. Keep going and you will reach Tobacco Bay. Fort St. Catherine is a 5 minute walk East from there.
Nearby essentials: Pop into St. George’s for water, snacks, or a quick coffee before heading out or lunch and a little shopping after adventuring.
FERRY REACH, ST. GEORGEʼS Martello Tower
With its distinctive egg shape, moat, and drawbridge, the Martello Tower in Ferry Reach looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. Built in 1823 with walls up to 11 feet thick, it sits atop a hill overlooking Whale Bone Bay. While the tower itself is viewable from the outside only, the surrounding walk through Ferry Reach Park and along the Railway Trail is a highlight.
Getting there: Best reached by scooter or car; combine it with a coastal walk for a scenic outing.
PEMBROKE
Fort Hamilton
Enjoy magnificent views over the City of Hamilton and its harbour. The upper levels and battlements have been landscaped with lawns, which make a fine place for a picnic. Entry is across a wooden bridge over the deep dry-moat and there are plenty of cannons and ramparts inside.
Getting here:
If walking from Front Street head east and take a left towards King Street. Walk up the steep incline of Kings Street and turn right to Happy Valley Road. Fort Hamilton is on your right.

Getting here: Bus 7 or 8 (operated between Dockyard and Hamilton)

Civil Ceremony
Couples may choose a civil ceremony performed by Bermuda’s Registrar General at the Registry General Office, located at 30 Parliament Street in Hamilton. One week’s notice is required to reserve your date, and two witnesses must be present. Be sure to check in advance for current fees and requirements.
Ceremony Style
Church Wedding
From grand Anglican cathedrals to intimate chapels like St. Peter’s Church — one of the oldest Anglican churches outside the British Isles — couples can arrange a traditional Cambridge Beaches ceremony officiated by a resident minister. Churches may have guidelines regarding décor, photography, and attire, so early coordination is recommended.
Effortless, Elegant, Unforgettable
If you’re thinking of getting married in Bermuda, prepare to have your heart stolen. With pink sand beaches, turquoise waters, pastel cottages, dreamy harbours, and centuries of historic charm, this island is more than a destination — it’s a love story waiting to be written.
The Essentials
You must be 16 or older (with written parental permission if under 18), legally free to marry — single, divorced, or widowed — and not closely related to your intended spouse.
If you were previously married, you’ll need to provide your final divorce decree. If widowed, a death certificate is required. In some cases, if a divorce occurred outside Bermuda, a certificate of non-marriage may also be requested. Any documents not in English must be translated before submission. Before any ceremony — civil or religious — you must secure a Bermuda marriage licence. Once approved, you are legally cleared to wed on the island.
On-Location Minister Ceremony
Prefer the ocean breeze as your soundtrack? Licensed Bermuda ministers can perform ceremonies at approved outdoor locations, including beaches, gardens, private estates, or resort properties.
On the day, the minister conducts the ceremony and ensures all legal documents are properly signed. The paperwork is then filed with Bermuda’s Registry General, and your official marriage certificate is issued.
Maritime Marriages
You can be married on the high seas onboard ships registered in Bermuda. The wedding would be a civil ceremony performed by the Captain of the ship on which it takes place.
