A WORD FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT

Dear Friends of Berkshire Theatre Group:

As we approach the 100th anniversary of Berkshire Theatre Festival, we are proud and excited to bring the magic of summer programming to our friends, neighbors and visitors. Our creative team has assembled a fantastic and eclectic group of productions for this summer, all of which I enthusiastically recommend. In a world that seems increasingly challenging and divisive, theatre is a place where we can civilly participate in important discussions or simply enjoy “mindless” entertainment.

Of course, what we do at BTG includes monetary costs, and ticket sales represent only a fraction of our expenses in running our buildings and programs. I particularly cherish the year round programming we do for our community youth in the schools and on our Berkshires stages. We therefore cherish your philanthropy.

I hope our theatres are homes for you this summer and for years to come. I am humbled and honored to lead this fabulous organization and hope you share my excitement for the summer ahead.

WELCOME TO OUR THEATRE!

Dear Friends,

At Berkshire Theatre Group, we are inspired by artistic imagination—by words and sounds that move us, by stories that reveal the depths of the human heart, and by you, our audience, who continue to fill our beautiful theatres with purpose and energy.

We are shaped by the world around us.

And while it may seem surprising, the meaning of the word nonprofit is not always fully understood within our communities.

To us, nonprofit is not just a designation—it’s a profound commitment. It reflects a contract with society, one that we honor with deep responsibility. At the core of our mission is a dedication to bold artistic exploration and acclaimed performances in theatre, music, dance and entertainment. Our vision is to be a vibrant cultural center—one that enriches, educates, invigorates, transforms and strengthens the community we serve.

We recognize that our work contributes meaningfully to the Berkshire economy. But the true measure of our worth as a nonprofit lies in how deeply we educate and inspire—by keeping our doors wide open to curiosity, discovery and the shared human experience. In a world that celebrates diversity and inclusion, we believe that through storytelling and dialogue, we can foster understanding, common values and a respectful vocabulary that brings people together.

The artists you’ll meet this season come from across the country and around the world—of all ages and backgrounds. Their work is carried out with extraordinary generosity, passion and creativity. We bring these performances to life with precision, on time and on budgets that are modest by any standard. We remain committed to keeping ticket prices accessible so that everyone can find a seat.

We are building a bold and vibrant future. Your continued support makes this possible. With your partnership, we can create great artistic work, expand our arts education initiatives, restore our beloved Stockbridge Playhouse in time for its centennial and uphold our vision to uplift and unite our community through the power of the arts.

Please come visit us—and if you’d like to connect more deeply, I welcome hearing from you at kate@berkshiretheatre.org.

Now is the time to believe.

With gratitude,

Celebrating 100 Years of Theatre in 2028

A Legacy Gift in any amount is meaningful to BTG and to you. The arts are for the ages, and in our time we should protect them.

PLANNED GIVING

For generations, friends of the Berkshire Theatre Festival and The Colonial Theatre have kept the magic alive by supporting the performances on our stages, our work with students, and the care of our historic buildings through thoughtful legacy gifts. These special donors are honored as part of The Neil E. Ellenoff Legacy Fund, ensuring their impact is remembered for years to come.

As you consider the future, we invite you to ask yourself: Do you care about the future of Berkshire Theatre Group? Bring that caring forward.

Securing BTG’s future is within our reach, and a Legacy Gift — in any amount — is meaningful to both BTG and you. The arts are for the ages, and in our time, it’s up to us to protect them. Think about how you wish to be remembered, and then join the BTG Legacy program.

BTG Legacy Member, Bobbie Hallig, put it best: “I did and it gives me a peaceful feeling of completion. In my time, I cared. After my time, my caring will continue.”

Leaving a legacy is not just an act of generosity; it’s a powerful way to make a lasting impact. Imagine establishing a fund through a foundation or fiduciary, or setting up a trust that not only secures an income for you and your family but also passionately supports the theatre you adore. By making a simple bequest, you can help guarantee that the BTG continues to thrive and inspire future generations. Your contribution can transform lives, and your commitment can ensure that the arts remain alive and vibrant for years to come.

OUR VOLUNTEERS

Berkshire Theatre Group would not be able to present the finest theatre, music, and performing arts year-round on four stages without the generosity and dedication of our talented team of volunteers. They help usher patrons, sell concessions, fold programs, scan tickets, tend to plants, assist with administrative duties, park cars and so much more.

Our 200+ volunteers are the backbone of Berkshire Theatre Group. Please look to the people dressed in black and white for assistance.

Berkshire Community Action Council

Elf/Children’s Warm Clothing Program

At BCAC we believe no child should be cold as they walk to school in the winter. They should be able to play outside in the snow with their friends. For over 40 years, the Elf/Children’s Warm Clothing Program has helped children stay warm. In 2024, we provided NEW coats and boots to 2,294 children, this year we are expecting an increase in need, and we can’t meet that need without your help.

BCAC provides NEW winter jackets, boots, and accessories for children up to age 12. Each winter, low-income families who sign up for the Elf/Children’s Warm Clothing Program can shop at The Children’s Winter Boutique, where they choose a NEW coat, boots, and warm accessories for each child, all at NO COST.

In Berkshire County, one thing remains constant: our community’s unwavering support for families in need. Warm hearts for warm kids.

James W. Giddens

October 9, 1938–October 25, 2024

For over twenty years, Jim Giddens supported our theatre through his trusteeship, role as Board President and most of all as a great lover of theatre. As he did in his life, he provided mentorship and great care for us all and we will miss him forever. Jim and his beloved wife Virginia are incredible caretakers of all that is good in the Berkshires. We dedicate the 2025 season to James W. Giddens.
