Looking for the perfect pair of cats? Look no further than Derbie and Essie. This lovely pair of male and female 2-year-old siblings arrived at Berkshire Humane Society due to a family member’s allergies. Now, this shy but sweet pair are in search of their new forever home together. Due to their shyness, they would do best in a quiet, adult-only home as they’ve never lived with children or other pets. Derbie is described as a lap cat and enjoys being pet. He’ll require routine grooming for his beautiful, long hair. His green-eyed sister Essie is the short-haired counterpart of the duo. She enjoys basking in the sun via the view from their window condo at the shelter. Because they are a bonded pair and enjoy each other’s company, they can be adopted at a discounted adoption fee via the shelter’s “Buddy Program.” Since they are so shy and it will take them time to warm up to new surroundings, they’ll need patient adopters willing to provide them time to adjust and acclimate. If you have the time and love to provide this quiet pair, please reach out to the Berkshire Humane Society feline staff for more information on how to adopt them at (413)-447-7878 ext. 124

In new exhibit, Norman Rockwell Museum goes

If you giggled sitting on your bunk at summer camp reading Spy v. Spy in MAD Magazine as a kid, this summer, the Norman Rockwell Museum will be a place you won’t want to miss. They are featuring the exhibition, “What, Me Worry? The Art and Humor of MAD Magazine” beginning June 8.

Over 250 things to see, many produced by “the Usual Gang of Idiots” will be on view at the Stockbridge campus. The exhibition will celebrate cover boy Alfred E. Newman and an assemblage of original artwork, artifacts, photos, video, interactives and more that will reveal the history of MAD. Even though MAD began as a comic book, it evolved into a regularly controversial magazine that poked at political corruption, cultural foibles, the nature of celebrity and social movements. Nothing was off limits for biting satire.

First published in 1952, MAD shaped a generation of readers who grew up with visual satire and would influence the creation of “Saturday Night Live,” “The Simpsons,” “South Park” and “The Onion” among many other now established comedy/satire shows and publications. Especially close to the hearts of the

folks at the Norman Rockwell Museum was MAD’s parody of Norman Rockwell’s illustrations. Several are in the exhibition, including a send-up of Rockwell’s “Triple Self-Portrait” featuring Alfred E. Neuman as the artist and subject. The art of regulars and occasional contributors of art to MAD, including Sergio Aragonés, David Berg, Paul Coker, Jack Davis, Mort Drucker, Frank Frazetta, Kelly Freas, Al Jaffee and many more will be on display. In addition, next-gen visual humorists are featured, including work by Robert Crumb.

In addition to the exhibition, the museum is planning companion events and programs. These include workshops, things for children and a gathering of scholars, artists and writers. Ellen Spear can be reached at espear@ berkshireeagle.com or 413-496-6227.
