‘Light Up the Holidays’ returns with outdoor events
BY ARLINDA SMITH BROADY Sponsored Content Producer
DALTON, Mass. -- With Jack Frost starting to nip at noses, the holiday spirit is indeed in the air. To keep that feeling going, a beloved local holiday tradition that was put on hold last year because of the pandemic is back in a modified fashion.
Light Up the Holidays, sponsored by the Community Recreation Association, Grow Dalton and the Dalton Civic Arts Committee, returns Dec. 11-12 with many favorite events -- including an appearance by Santa Claus.
“The Light Up The Holidays
events are such a popular part of the season that we did everything we could to make sure it was back this year,” said John Kelly, owner of Kelly’s Package Store and a volunteer with this annual event in its 25th year after the coronavirus pandemic caused last year’s cancellation. “Safety is first and foremost, but fun isn’t far behind.”
The Central Berkshire Regional School District music departments -- always popular with the crowd -- were itching to get back out participating, director Brian Rabuse said.
Although COVID protocols
vary from town to town, attendees, especially those who haven’t been vaccinated, are encouraged to wear masks and social distance as much as possible. Out of an abundance of caution there will be no indoor activities this year.
“We believe the activities planned will more than make up for last year’s cancellation,” Kelly said. “Everyone has had to make sacrifices in the last year and a half, but the organizers made it our mission to bring back one of the most-anticipated events of the season.”
