EACH SUMMER, Berkshire Busk! transforms our downtown into a vibrant open-air stage, with buskers (street performers who perform for tips) bringing music, magic, and entertainment all over downtown.
This summer, Berkshire Busk! has expanded. On the first three weekends of July (Friday and Saturday), performers will be present all-over downtown Great Barrington, including Railroad Street with its popular Saturday evening vendor market. The fun begins at 6:30 pm.
Then… for the following seven weekends starting from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, you’ll find us at the Barrington House Courtyard (across from the Triplex) where we’ll have music of all kinds, as well as activities for kids.
There’s more. We’re adding Housatonic to the fun. Come to a special afternoon of Berkshire Busk! in the village of Housatonic on Depot Street from 2:30 to 4:30 pm on July 18th. You’ll find buskers every Saturday morning at the immensely popular Great Barrington Farmers Market. Then more music in the afternoon at Berkshire Mountain Distillers in Sheffield.
You’ll find the full festival schedule on pages 16 and 17. This guide is also filled with our personal recommendations on where to eat, shop, and explore while you’re here. Great Barrington has been called “ The Best Small Town in America ”—and we think you’ll see why.

There are hundreds of free parking spots in downtown Great Barrington. Note that Railroad Street is closed to traffic from 5:30 to 10 PM on Friday and Saturday nights on July 3/4, 11/12 and 17/18 for Berkshire Busk! and outdoor dining.

Bizen Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar 17 Railroad Street
A Great Barrington fixture since 1995, Bizen offers a wildly enjoyable array of pun-worthy, creative sushi rolls that may take you longer to read than Moby Dick – but the results are worth it. Be sure to check out the “Berkshire Busketeer” roll, a summer speciality!
Founded by chef and ceramic artist Michael Marcus, Bizen is as much about craftsmanship as it is about cuisine. Every detail, from the handformed sushi to the thoughtfully designed space reflects his artistry. Manager Tasja Keetman, a photographer and biodynamic beekeeper, brings an ethos of sustainability and care to the restaurant’s philosophy.
Their outdoor dining in the summer is wildly popular, particularly during Berkshire Busk! when tables spill out onto the street—so come early and be ready to settle in and enjoy Berkshire Busk! performers as you sip on your sake!
Train 47 Railroad Street (Ste. 3)
Founded in 2024 by the team behind Shots Cafe in Lenox, Boba Train is a real sweet spot on Railroad Street! Stop in and peruse the many boba teas this cafe is named after, or explore the wide variety of other drinks they offer: fruit teas, frappuccinos, smoothies and lemonades are all sure to be a cool and refreshing treat. We recommend dining in for a peaceful break in your day, and checking the glass cabinet for a fresh baked good to pair with your drink of choice.
The Elm & Uva Pizza 20 Railroad St/Alleyway
Located right on Railroad Street, The Elm brings a contemporary twist to New England cuisine, aiming for city sophistication with a Berkshire feel. The elegantly restored, century-old mahogany bar is the perfect spot for a drink or a few bites from the bar menu. The full menu offers a rotating selection of stunning seasonal dishes.
Around the corner (and operated by the same owners) is Uva Pizza. Drop in to this casual spot for delicious thin-crust pizzas, fired in an impressively decorated wood-burning stove. Don’t forget to ask your server about the chef’s special pizza of the day.
Look for co-owner Adrian, a familiar face in the restaurant world, whose passion for hospitality shapes both spots. Whether you’re after a refined dinner, a laid-back brunch, or some seriously good pizza, both have outdoor seating—perfect for catching Berkshire Busk! right in the middle of the action.

Ilse was founded in 2019 with a passion for highquality, sustainably-sourced coffee. Their cafe spaces – the newest being here in Great Barrington, where they opened in late 2025 – are stocked with their own coffee lines. While there are a variety of drinks on the menu, we recommend taking the extra minute to try their pour-over option.
At the very top of Railroad Street, Mooncloud is more than a cocktail bar—it’s where head mixologist Billy Jack Paul crafts drinks with the creativity of an artist.
On the first three weekends of July, sit outside on the patio and enjoy the performances taking place at the Haddad Subaru Stage on Upper Railroad Street.
With its cozy, intimate vibe and drinks that will make you rethink everything you knew about cocktails, Mooncloud has extraordinary nibbles as well. That also means it fills up quickly—but take it from us, it’s worth the wait!
SoCo Creamery has been scooping up happiness in Great Barrington since 2004. This smallbatch micro-creamery is known for high-quality ingredients and zero shortcuts. SoCo’s new owners, Matt and Caitlin Scott, have given the store a new look–but as the previous long-time “flavor master,” Matt is sure to bring you the ice creams you know and love! Don’t let the line deter you during Berkshire Busk! – SoCo’s incredibly hardworking staff gets your sweet treat in hand in record time. SoCo’s flavor lineup is both classic and wildly creative. You’ll find favorites like Dirty Chocolate, Salted Caramel, and Espresso Cookie, as well as imaginative recipes like Blueberry Honey Lavender or Lemon Poppy. This year, they’ve created a special sundae just for us—so stop in and give the “Peanut Busker Brownie” a try!
Fiesta Bar and Grill 284 Main Street
We at Berkshire Busk! have been sustained by many great meals at Fiesta Bar and Grill! At Fiesta, you’ll find all of your favorite Mexican dishes from tacos to enchiladas and more.
Their outdoor dining area by the Berkshire Money Management Stage is the perfect place to hang out and be in the middle of all of the festival action! Sit back and sip on their outstanding margaritas, and nosh on the chips and salsa –you’ll be in for a great night.
Fuel Coffee 293 Main Street
Situated right across from the entrance to Railroad Street, Fuel Coffee has long been a neighborhood anchor—the kind of place where locals meet over coffee and talk about local politics, business, and where visitors immediately feel like regulars.
Taken over by new owners Elan and Lydia Merkel in 2024, Fuel is known for its homemade pastries, hearty breakfast sandwiches, and full lunch menu. The Merkels are introducing more evening hours and special events, so check their window for the latest.
We can’t even count the number of Berkshire Busk! planning meetings that we’ve had over steaming cups of coffee at Fuel in the dead of winter—it’s that kind of spot.
Stroll into the Barrington House and you’ll find GB Eats, the perfect spot for a delicious meal no matter the time of day. This cafe serves breakfast all day as well as salads, sandwiches, burgers and more.
The cafe has an impressive bar menu (see: boozy milkshakes!), but our insider tip is that GB Eats is the place to go if you need an early evening dose of caffeine. Their mocha lattes are made with ground chocolate from the iconic Chocolate Springs in Lenox!
Located in the Triplex Cinema, Juju’s is fun, fast and tasty. It’s a go-to spot for a quick, playful lunch or dinner that never skimps on flavor.

Luna Faun is a Berkshire-based master of fire and dance. When not breathing fire or twirling a flaming staff, her performances also feature silk fans, LED props, and even her beautiful pet snakes!
“What I enjoy most about performing at Berkshire Busk is the sense of community and the spontaneous energy of the crowd,” Luna says. “There is something truly special about connecting with people out on the town during the most vibrant months of the Berkshires and seeing the immediate joy that live performances bring to the streets. We don’t have many opportunities for 3rd spaces these days, Berkshire Busk creates a temporary 3rd space to enjoy time with your community, offering an opportunity to spend time with one another in a fun relaxed setting. When not wielding fire or snakes, Luna can be found making herbal potions and various kitchen witchery for her wellness practice. You can find her at our festival during our Housatonic Pop-Up on July 18th, when she’ll bring her witchy magic to Depot St during this special afternoon event.

and tater tots, all served with a lineup of bold, housemade sauces. If you’re looking for something fresh, the sumac fattoush salad—a bright, citrusy Middle Eastern salad with pita chips—is our favorite.
Miller’s Pub 280 Main Street
If you’re worried about missing the “big game” while you’re at the festival, pop into Miller’s Pub on Main Street: they’re sure to have a spot for you to check the score alongside some light bites and a pint.
Miller’s offers local brews, imported UK favorites, an impressive selection of whiskey and so much more in a comfortable, casual atmosphere. Their ample bar seating is great for making like a local and getting to know your neighbors.
Momma Lo’s BBQ 284 Main Street
At Momma Lo’s BBQ, it’s all about soulful Southern flavors. Founded by Loretta “Momma Lo” McClennon who grew up cooking in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this take-out place in the Barrington House alleyway offers ribs, brisket, pulled pork, jerk chicken, and pork belly burnt ends, alongside must-have sides like mac and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread.
Out back, her son Buddha—a rapper known as “Buddha the Great”—can often be found manning the smoker. His big smile and even bigger personality make him as big an attraction as the food.
Though a take-out spot, Momma Lo’s offers limited seating in the alleyway of Barrington House. In the summer, you can grab your meal and enjoy it by our Berkshire Money Management Stage. During Berkshire Busk! festival hours, you’ll have live music to go with your brisket. Since this is a true family affair, where everything is made and smoked by hand, the hours and days they’re open can vary— so be sure to stop by and see what’s smoking!
On Castle Street next to the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Number Ten is a classic American steakhouse experience. The intimate space features an antique mahogany bar across from a row of wooden booths crafted from reclaimed church pews. The main dining room has exposed brick walls, offering a cozy yet upscale setting. The service is professional and consistent. Steak lovers will find their fix here, with cuts such as a 14-ounce NY Strip, best enjoyed with sautéed mushrooms, mac n’ cheese, or one of their signature sauces. But there’s more to the
IN GREAT BARRINGTON menu than just steak—you’ll also find chicken, seafood, and rotating specials. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends as people make their dinner-and-a-show plans with both Berkshire Busk! and The Mahaiwe next door.
At the north end of Main Street, Prairie Whale is a true farm-to-table gem where rustic charm meets serious culinary craft. The name, an old pioneer slang term for pig, hints at the restaurant’s wholeanimal cooking ethos and dedication to locally sourced seasonal ingredients.
Founded by Mark Firth (a trailblazing Brooklyn restaurateur who swapped city life for the Berkshires), Prairie Whale is a charming space with a warm, unpretentious feel. The menu is reinvented weekly (check out their website for the latest iteration) and features New American dishes that highlight the best of Berkshire farms, including produce from their own small garden in Monterey.
Insider’s tip: During the summer, outdoor tables in the front grassy yard are popular but well away from the Berkshire Busk! action. The best move is get there early, put your name on the waiting list, then wander downtown and listen to the buskers until you get a text that your table is ready.
Robbie’s Market 278 Main Street
One of the newest additions to the downtown dining scene in the former Gorham & Norton space. Robbie’s provides fresh, tasty food no matter how much time you have. They have ready-made food options, and a menu of standout sandwiches, pizza and more to sit and enjoy. You can even find jars of Robbie’s pizza sauce to use at home. It’s quickly become a neighborhood favorite!

Berkshire Mountain Bakery: Where locals go to the source for naturally leavened sourdough breads and European-style baking techniques. Try the “sunny flax” or take home a frozen pizza.
Berkshire Mountain Distillers: The perfect spot to taste an array of small-batch craft spirits, sample their guest food trucks or see a Berkshire Busk! performer on Saturday afternoons!

Koi: Your go-to Chinese restaurant a few minutes’ drive away. Reliable, comforting, and pretty much always open!
Marketplace Kitchen: Solid soups, salads, and sandwiches—perfect for a quick, tasty bite, to stay or go.
Pleasant & Main (Housatonic): Try Craig Bero’s locally-sourced ingredients for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. You’ll sample local organic eggs, cherry pancakes, sweet or savory crêpes, home-made corned-beef hash, foraged mushrooms, and cappuccinos laced with Belgian chocolate. Taqueria Azteca: A hidden gem inside of Barrington House that’s perfect for a quick bite. Stop by their take-out window and build your own burrito!
OVER THE PAST SIX YEARS, we’ve found that many come to Berkshire Busk! without a clear idea of what it means to “busk”. Busking is the act of performing on the street for tips. Many picture the classic image of a solo musician playing a guitar–that’s how Ed Sheeran, Tracy Chapman, Phoebe Bridgers and lots of other amazing artists began their musical journeys! We hope that by the end of the evening, you’ll feel fully immersed in the fascinating world of busking–and maybe you’ll have spotted the “next big thing” at our festival!
We’re happy to say we have many popular solo artists making their return. American Idol alum Katherine Winston (July 10, 18, 19), prolific songwriter for Barney & Friends and more Willy Welch (Aug 22 & 29), and travelling folk artist Eli Elkus (Oct 24, Nov 14) will all join us this season–both for our summer nights downtown and our Farmers Market programming that runs into the fall.
As anyone who has seen a brass band in New Orleans knows, buskers can include larger groups too. The Roots, who began their career by busking on South Street in Philadelphia, are another great example! Here in Great Barrington, we’re pleased our lineup this year includes a wide variety of such acts like a trio from nonprofit Music in Common (Aug 15), the popular Rees Shad & The Conversations (Aug 7), and Berkshire Busk! debut performances from indie trio My So-Called Summer (July 4) and Americana band Whistle and The Stack (September 5).
Playing an instrument is not a requirement of being a busker–many non-musical performers make a full-time living through their unique brand of street theatre. You’ll find a face painter or balloon twister every festival night at the brand-new Fairview Kid’s Zone. Our lineup also includes magicians like Myron the Magnificent (July 3) and fire dancers like Berkshire-based Opal Raven Cirque (July 11). Great Barrington will be one stop on a national/international tour for many circus artists this summer, from returning acts like Cate Great (July 3) and The Red Trouser Show (July 18) to newcomers like Higby The Yo-Yo Guy (July 3) and Kilted Colin (July 17).
This summer, our schedule is going to look a little different. On the next page, you’ll see two formats. First are our “BIG Festival” weekends, complete with the closure of Railroad Street, many different acts each night, and free films on Saturdays at the Gazebo to finish out the evenings. Then, we move into our “Courtyard” weekends, which offer a more intimate space to enjoy the arts and connect with your community. No matter what, you’ll find a different combination of stellar buskers each and every festival night.
Finally, we’re honored to work with several communityminded businesses and organizations that bring extra magic to the Berkshires this summer. We have a full line up of Berkshire Buskers at the Great Barrington Farmers Market, and Berkshire Mountain Distillers in Sheffield. We’re launching a brand-new collaboration with Tanglewood to bring world-class musicians to our BMM stage downtown. Some of our buskers will even be performing on Tanglewood’s hallowed lawn! We’ve partnered with Big Y, Triplex Cinema, and Story Screen Cinema to show some classic films outdoors next the the Gazebo bandstand at dusk. And thanks also go to the Housatonic Improvement Committee which invited us to bring an afternoon of busking to nearby Depot Street on Saturday, July 18. (Find all the details on pages 18 and 19).
We hope that you walk away from an evening at Berkshire Busk! inspired by the courage of performers who step into the unknown each time they share their art. They never know how it will be received. At the heart of busking is the joyful, spontaneous, semiunpredictable magic of a live show in which passersby become an audience, and the audience becomes an active participant.
As always, if you enjoy a busker, show them how much you do by tipping, dancing to their music, or starting a conversation with a stranger! Our festival builds on a sense of community, because that’s what Great Barrington is all about.

“Firenze in the Berkshires”
David and Tobin of The Red Trouser Show have been friends since the first grade, and made a career out of stunning circus stunts. Their unique brand of precision acrobatics, fire juggling and comedy have earned them appearances at state fairs, sporting events (like a recent appearance at an Indiana Pacers halftime show), and more.
When asked what the duo enjoys most about performing at our festival, Tobin says “The easy answer is obviously the great audiences, and Berkshire Busk! excels at creating the perfect environment for them. The organizers have mastered the winning combination of a bustling, vibrant atmosphere while maintaining a space with quiet focus for us to perform. We also really enjoy that our audience is made up of so many locals as well as visitors to Great Barrington.”
The Red Trouser Show will return to Berkshire Busk! on Saturday, July 18th. They’ll begin the afternoon at our Housatonic pop-up before their performances on Railroad Street in the evening.
Fun fact: singer-guitarist Natalie Lewis was our youngest solo performer during the first summer of Berkshire Busk!. In 2021, she was a 16-year-old student at Monument Mountain Regional High School with an old soul, singing audience favorites from the sixties, seventies and beyond.
“Street performing — and Berkshire Busk! specifically — has brought a strong sense of community to Great Barrington these past few summers,” Natalie says. “The variety in performances engages people of all ages and it’s a great way to end a long week. I personally love walking around every weekend to see both new and familiar faces!”
You can still find Natalie playing the classics as she pursues a degree in Music Education at the University of Vermont. She’ll bring her talents to the Berkshire Money Management Stage on Friday, July 24th and to the Great Barrington Farmers Market on Saturday, August 1st.

Dive deeper into the Berkshires at the Du Bois Freedom Center. Summer visitors can explore walking tours of W.E.B. Du Bois’ early life in Great Barrington, the historic Clinton A.M.E Zion Church, and new/upcoming exhibits highlighting the region’s Black history — including the story of abolitionist Elizabeth Freeman, whose legal fight helped end slavery in Massachusetts. “Great Barrington is a place of historical exploration,” says story and interpretive fellow Marcus Smith (pictured to the right).
