Our anniversary issue showcases all that’s best of Berkeley Hall. From our members to our team, it’s an extraordinary celebration of community and friendship as we look to all we’ve accomplished together, and to the future in this very special community we are so fortunate to call home. As we approach this remarkable milestone, we’ve been sharing our story through the voices of our members. In this issue, we speak with Dave and Petie DeBruyne who have been calling Berkeley Hall home since 2003. Here, they share a bit of their story and our Club’s history, and you can read more on page 7.
It’s a glorious time for golfers as the temps dip lower and we gear up for our fall golf tournaments. On the greens, our Agronomy team has done an amazing job getting our courses ready, and we’ve got a full line-up of golf events beginning with the Berkeley Hall Charitable Foundation’s signature event, the 2026 Charity Cup. TIM MANSUR NAMED FOOD & BEVERAGE DIRECTOR We’re happy to welcome Tim Mansur back to Berkeley Hall as our new Director of Food & Beverage. Many of you may remember Tim from his previous tenure at the Club, helping lead the service team and developing the wine program that so many have come to enjoy. An accomplished club professional, and Level One Sommelier, Tim brings valuable experience in private club dining and front-of-house leadership, paired with culinary acumen and a commitment to team training and service excellence. Tim most recently served as Assistant Director of Food and Beverage & Events
with The Ford Field and River Club in Savannah, GA. There, he honed his talents for shaping elevated memberscentric dining experiences and enhancing operations. “Returning to Berkeley Hall is something I’ve always kept in the back of my mind," shared Tim. “I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to rejoin such a special club, and reconnect with familiar faces, and meet many new ones! I'm also excited to build on Berkeley Hall’s strong culture of hospitality, while taking the member experience to the next level.” Please join us in welcoming Tim back to the Club!

Her gracious manner and professionalism are exemplary, as she goes to great measures to enhance the member experience with her abovethe-bar attention to detail. Daphne has served on our beverage team since April 2026, and exhibits great camaraderie and teamwork, in tandem with her outstanding service, welcoming manner, and commitment to excellence. She is truly an asset to
our team at Berkeley Hall. Ben Riemann is an exceptionally committed member of our Berkeley Hall team, well known for his friendly, professional manner and exceptional member service. He always strives to go above and beyond to assist both membership and staff, with an
unparalleled work ethic we’ve all come to depend upon. Ben has served on our Golf Professional team since May 2024 and is well-liked by members, guests and especially our golf campers! We thank Ben for his dedication and willingness to always provide the best of our Berkeley Experience.

Celebrate with Us! As we approach this remarkable milestone, our story is best told through the voices of our members, we hope you enjoy hearing them and learning more about our Club’s shared history.
L
ongtime members Dave and Petie DeBruyne have been calling Berkeley Hall home since 2003. “Back then, there was no Clubhouse, no Fitness Center, and the dining room and golf shop were in golf cottages, but the golf courses were open as was the Learning Center!” shares Dave. They first heard about Berkeley Hall via an ad in the Wall Street Journal. Initially they’d been considering California, Florida, North Carolina, even Daufuskie Island. “We came down from Boston and loved Berkeley Hall right away! During the visit, we were driving around an almost empty Good Hope Road and as I extolled the virtues of moving here, Petie said: ‘Have you noticed there are no homes?’ We took the plunge anyway and bought our lot on that trip.” With their four children located all over the country (and in Europe), they were looking for a place their families would want to come.
“We’ve succeeded beyond our wildest dreams,” adds Petie. “The kids and grandchildren come often and love it. And just before Thanksgiving there will be two great grandchildren for future Berkeley Hall visits!” This summer, they hosted their 5th DeBruyne Family Reunion at BHC, with 24 family members in attendance, for a family visit of golf, dining, recreation, even a family bocce tournament! It seems Berkeley Hall was the perfect place for the family gatherings they’d always envisioned, with many more to come. BHC: Love Most? Dave & Petie: It’s a collage – the beauty of this special place, two terrific golf courses, beautifully maintained, the friendliness of residents, the expertise and helpfulness of the staff, the convenience of the location, and the security a gated community offers.
BHC: Favorite Memories? Dave & Petie: The first is our daughter’s wedding, here in October, 2006. There was a tropical storm that weekend! We played the golf tournament in a downpour. Danny Malone’s crew somehow made the ground under the wedding tent safe for people, Tom Ferrel’s food was incredible, and Michael Krause made everything come together. Our daughter’s friends, 20 years later, still say it was the best wedding they ever attended! The second is our first summer here in 2003, there weren’t many of us in residence. So almost every weekend the Greens, the Browns, the Hollingsworths, the Bushes and the DeBruynes had a golf tournament. No tee times were necessary, a bit late no problem! After golf, dinner rotated between our homes. We certainly had the best of times. And of course, we still do! SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026

hen it comes to Berkeley Hall, Elaine Terry embodies the best of our Berkeley Experience! As we get ready to celebrate our Club’s legacy of community, we share this remarkable milestone with Elaine, who recently celebrated her 25th anniversary at Berkeley Hall. Although it may be more accurate to say we celebrated her, in honor of all she's brought to the Club. We surprised Elaine with a celebration luncheon, thanks to the help of Romario Whittaker, Director of Security. There were lots of smiles and reminiscences as she was presented with flowers, a signature Berkeley Hall plaque, and a gorgeous cake by Pastry Chef Owen. Originally from Georgia, this Lowcountry native has now called South Carolina

home for many years, a good number of which have been with Berkeley Hall. In fact, Elaine was here before the official back gate was even in place, which explains why so many local builders, contractors, and members know and love her. Elaine has served on our team as a Security Gatehouse Officer since July of 2001, and we thank her for her outstanding service, dedication, and the exceptional excellence she brings to Berkeley Hall. Of course, when she's not at BHC, she's with her large and loving family. Please join us in celebrating one of Berkeley Hall's best, Elaine Terry! Elaine’s smile is truly a warm beacon, welcoming and celebrating all that’s best about Berkeley Hall!
BHC: What Makes BHC Such A Special Community? ELAINE: The people and the kindness that they show. It feels like home, and I’m at peace. It’s a beautiful place to come and be – and enjoy and have fun. So many of our members here feel like family. BHC: Favorite Memory? ELAINE: Don’t make me cry! When I joined BHC, they told me it was my smile that got me the job. I’ve always had a smile and a wave, my special Elaine wave – you open your fingers and say, “Hey, welcome to Berkeley Hall!” BHC: We’re sure glad she’s here. “The Calamity Club” by Kathryn Stockett Stockett’s follow-up to her bestselling novel, The Help, traces the intersecting lives of a precocious orphan, exasperated older sister, and an enterprising woman in 1933 Mississippi. Eleven-year-old Meg Lefleur endures a miserable existence at the Lafayette County Orphan Asylum for Girls, forced to toil in the institution’s offices rather than attend school. Too old to be adopted, she still clings to hope her mother might return. Meanwhile, Birdie Calhoun, 24, is forced into action when back taxes threaten the home she shares with her mother and grandmother. She travels to Oxford to ask her younger sister Frances for help, only to discover Frances’s charmed life is far less than it seems. “The Women on Platform Two” by Laura Anthony It’s 2023, and Saoirse has left the house after an argument with her boyfriend about whether or not to have children. Wandering the streets of Dublin, she ducks into the train station and notices a photograph dropped by a stylish elderly woman as she hurries to catch her train. Saoirse picks it up and follows the woman onto the train, staying on it as Maura Flynn tells the story of her friend Bernie and the events leading up to the photo taken exactly 52 years ago. Maura was working as a shopgirl when dashing Dr. Christopher Davenport asked to take her to the pictures. Soon after they married, his charming demeanor gave way to an uncontrollable temper and the perfect life she’d imagined turned into a nightmare. Maura’s only lifeline was Bernie, a butcher’s wife and devoted mother of three. Inspired by their story, Saoirse returns to her life with determination to change it for the better. Both courses received a good deal of care this summer and will be in great shape as we head into the Club’s fall/winter season. Our fall tournament season begins with the North-South Challenge, as we see whether the South Team will be able to defend their title from last year! Upcoming, we have
a full schedule of ‘Major’ events as well as the seasonal Men’s, Ladies’, and Mixed events. I’m pleased to see so many of our tournaments garner great support throughout the year, and our fall events are already generating strong interest. Early registration is always suggested, as we look forward to full fields for all the events, and some friendly competition on the course!

ongratulations to Berkeley Hall Head Golf Professional Stephanie George on her LPGA National Championship win this past July. She defended her title with three great rounds up in Nashville, TN to lift the trophy once again! “Steph was defending her title in the Challenge Division and was up against some tough event competition on the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee. Steph fired rounds of 74,
72 and 74 to go wire-to-wire and retain the trophy!” shares Kieran Staunton, Director of Golf. “Starting out hot in the final round, she opened up a nice lead, but her nearest competitor made a spirited comeback to get within 2 strokes as the pair came to the final hole. With the trophy on the line, Steph held strong with a par to win by two strokes! Congrats Steph, we're very proud!”

GOLF MAINTENANCE UPDATE
THE FUTURE OF AGRONOMY
O
ver the past three years, you may have noticed us testing autonomous mowers on the golf course. We've spent that time evaluating six different manufacturers and, more importantly, seeing how technology performs on our turf and under our conditions. We're now moving from the demo phase into implementation. Our current equipment lease runs through the middle of 2027, which gives us a defined window to plan this transition. Rather than simply replacing our current fleet, we're using the opportunity to begin shifting the South Course rough to autonomous mowing. Our goal is to have the entire South rough operating autonomously by the end of the 2027 growing season. We’re extending our current lease as bringing in new updates of the current equipment does not feel like the right decision with autonomous fairway mowers right around the corner. This allows us to gain a few more years from our equipment as we look to integrate new technologies that are viable while continuing to use what we currently have.
For anyone who hasn't seen one up close, the units are small electric mowers that navigate by GPS, work their assigned acreage on a schedule, return to a charging station, and head back out when they're ready.
It's also quieter, burns no fuel, and frees staff to spend more of their time on the work you see and appreciate; bunkers, greens, tees, and the details that make the biggest difference.
Overall, it will be a very exciting time moving forward. Golf course maintenance is going to look very different over the next few years. – Adam Miller No operator and very little noise. Much of the work can happen while nobody is on the course. Right now, we mow rough about once a week. With these units, we'll be mowing it four times a week. That single change does more than it sounds. When you cut a little bit off frequently instead of taking a lot off at once, you don't get the clumps and heavy clippings that come with a traditional rough mowing. That means less blowing, less disruption, and a cleaner, more consistent lie when you find yourself out there.
This will not be a seamless conversion. New technology never is. There may be units that get stuck, and boundaries we'll have to adjust. Overall, it will be a very exciting time moving forward. Golf course maintenance is going to look very different over the next few years. We're going to keep testing, learning, and working out how to use these tools in a way that makes the course better without sacrificing the premier golf conditions we expect.
