Flappers of the 1920s had no need of an excuse to have a party, nor do we. We do, however, have good reason and an even better cause. For many years BASH (Building a Scholastic Heritage) has raised funds to support The Benjamin School, and what a scholastic heritage it has built! One that today results in our students being recognized in many ways: National Merit finalists (8), Commended students (6), and outstanding early decision results of multiple acceptances at six Ivy League schools, in addition to several more at first-tier institutions, including Boston College, Duke, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, and Wake Forest. Those students earned their spots, but the reputation of Benjamin opened the door. And that reputation was built by the generosity of years of BASH supporters ensuring that the best teachers had the best facilities to provide the best educational experience in South Florida. Now BASH 2020 can help to continue building the Benjamin scholastic heritage. It does not require spats and flasks or flapper dresses with pearls and feathers, just your generous participation in tonight’s soirée. For that, we would be most grateful. The 1920s was an era of the highest highs and the lowest lows . . . of progress and innovation, jazz, and the wildest of parties. America’s mood lifted as memories of the war faded and a more modern era emerged. Tonight, we invite you to take a step back and get entranced in “All That Jazz.” Feel the liberated beat and let your high-flying spirit loose during the 36th Annual Benjamin School BASH Gala – the Speakeasy Soirée! This year’s Gala would not be possible without the very generous time and effort dedicated by our highly talented group of parent volunteers. With multiple subcommittees, chairs, and partners, it is apparent that this is not the BASH Committee’s first rodeo – or speakeasy! Their efforts, along with those of honorary chairs, Tarry and Ray Graziotto, and our partners in the Advancement Office, have produced what will surely be an unforgettable event. The Gala exists to raise funds for the betterment of our children’s educational experience and to maintain The Benjamin School’s standard of excellence. In addition, our annual “Call From the Heart” appeal this evening is all about hiring and recruiting the School’s No. 1 asset: our teachers. Welcome from the Honorary Chairs DEAR BENJAMIN COMMUNITY, Following in the footsteps of so many wonderful people before us in the 35-year history of BASH, we are truly honored to serve as honorary chairs for this year’s Gala. As our family enters into its 16th year at the School, we are somewhat melancholy realizing that our time with children here will soon end. As we look back, we cherish the uniquely Benjamin experience that has so greatly benefited our daughter Kailey, a sophomore at Emory University, and our son Nico, soon finishing his junior year at TBS. We have also been fortunate over the years to work hand in hand with the many incredible parents that have generously given their time, talent, and treasure to support the School, ensuring that we live up to our motto: Nulli Secundus (Second to None). This year’s BASH co-chairs, Ben and Nicole Foster and Darren and Sierra Lowe, are marvelous examples of the School’s history of incredibly dedicated and hardworking parents that – through their efforts – make Benjamin a better place not only for our children, but for the generations of children still to come. As we enter this new decade, the future of Benjamin is bright. We thank the co-chairs, and all others involved, for undoubtedly making BASH 2020 a huge success. Auction Rules
Before bidding on any auction item, all BASH supporters should read the "fine print" on the auction listing, including restrictions on dates, location, number of people, etc. – Thank you!
GENERAL AUCTION 1. All sales are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds on items. Items or gift certificates are not redeemable for cash. 2. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used by March 14, 2021. 3. Payment in full for auction items, prior to the end of the evening, is mandatory. Payment may be made with cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. 4. Item(s) may only be removed from the auction by exhibiting a PAID receipt for said item(s) to a BASH Auction Official. 5. All auction items are offered, “as is.” 6. The value of these items has been determined by the donor and is not warranted by The Benjamin School for tax purposes or general value. 7. The amount paid for an item is not necessarily tax deductible as a charitable contribution. The charitable contribution is the amount paid in excess of the fair market value of the item. 8. Item descriptions and restrictions are provided by the donor. Some trips or special events have restricted dates. All trips and events are subject to availability per the donor. Airfare is included with trips only if indicated in the item description. 9. In the event of a dispute after bidding has closed, a BASH Auction Official shall act as the final authority and shall determine the winning bidder. 10. If anyone has an inquiry regarding an item purchased at BASH, please call the BASH office at 561-472-3483.
SILENT AUCTION 1. Guests will be asked to register their credit card at registration if they plan to bid on any items in the silent auction. 2. A ll items in the silent auction are available for mobile bidding. Persons desiring to bid must do so by selecting “Bid Now” on the Mobile Bidding site. 3. The “starting bid” is the amount at which the bidding must begin and is so indicated on the Mobile Bidding site. In order to constitute a valid bid, each subsequent bid must be equal to or in excess of the “minimum raise” amount as indicated on the Mobile Bidding site. Bids that do not follow the aforementioned criteria or that are not made on the Mobile Bidding site will be deemed invalid. 4. The highest properly made bid at the time the auction closes will be the winning bid.
LIVE & ALMOST LIVE AUCTION 1. To register a bid, signal the Auctioneer or an Auction Spotter until your bid is recognized. 2. Winning bids will be recorded by BASH Auction Officials and charged to the winning bidder’s bid number. 3. Winning bids will be determined by the Auctioneer. The decision of the Auctioneer will be final.
