Below the Surface: Quality Content Turned Profits

The West of Indonesia

Talking about family content, let’s go back to kindergarten for an instance and learn once more about the meaning of family Though, this shouldn’t be hard because we’ve already known that a group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage, or adoption is already considered a family (Health Resources & Services Administration, 2022) From here, it’s a fact known to all of us that each corresponding family members have their own roles to carry out Real parents are supposed to ensure the well being and safety of their child,

as well as provide many life skills for the growth of their child Despite it, parents need to give love, acceptance, appreciation, as well as recognition to their children as they have every single right to be safe and to be treated as such (FKKMK UGM, n.d). In an uncompromised household, children need to be protected against cruelty and every form of abuse (NSW Government, n d) So, wouldn’t it be ironic to think that most members of a family are being used as a source of money by their own adults or parents through quality content?

here once was a made-up saying “if social media was a candy, then we would all be diabetic” Even if it’s harsh, the truth lies in the saying Humans are one of the most remarkable species to have walked on earth

apt to changes made by others, now, they are still discovering new findings in the world So, it isn’t a surprise when social media arises amongst people, becoming the new digital space for people to interact and share their stories The growth of social media is remarkably fast, especially in a very populous country such as Indonesia It's to be said that over 191 million people are using social media in January 2022 The data was observed to have a major improvement around 12,35% than last year’s amount of users (Mahdi, 2022) Indonesia’s social media contents are different than any other country We would like to think that content such as gaming would take the number 1 spot, but in reality there are 7 out of 10

popular creators that produce content surrounding video blogs or vlogs As there are many various types of vlogging genres to watch, “family vlogs” are quite known to suit the taste of Indonesians. This is why it isn’t a surprise that 39% of Indonesia’s top 100 content creators are dominated by such types of content (Kurniawan, 2019). Facts like these wouldn’t be obvious since many social media users enjoy family content because of their rather cute and harmless activities, whereas families would often post themselves pulling pranks on each other, living their daily routines, etc. This would later captivate people’s attention and the said family would turn successful as they have become an important role model for the users of social media (Ward, 2020)

Indonesia's outbreak in social media users Statista.com A well-being family bond between each members - Freepik.com

Social media has weighted the good and the bad, but it didn’t manage to protect the rightful meaning of family Due to many cases of exploitation in family channels, many users have completely changed their view of family The contents made by family channels are now becoming more irrelevant This led to many people believing that perhaps a family isn’t always a safe place. Parents as the main culprit of these type of flawed contents are responsible for the way social media users feel about families now. After all, they’re the responsible adult in a family As parents overshare their daily lives, people will think that families consisting of many members will find many ways to become famous and rich Parents or adult role models who focus on likes, take forced perfect pictures and footage of their

children, brag all the time about little things in their content, as well as become the way too much controlling individual in their households have left many people feeling irked This eventually changed the true meaning of family to them, from a safe haven becoming a hell paradise for their poor family members as victims (Duncan, 2020) Because of their money hunger, parents and other adults in a household would force their young family members to participate in challenges or skits they’ve scripted They would focus on directing attention to their children as the main attraction in family channels nowadays. This proves how content creators on the internet have been influenced to exploit their families and abandon the well being as well as the mental health of their own members just for views, likes, followers, and profits (Leiby, 2022).

How can someone know if the family content creators that they’re watching are using their content for profit? It’s quite easy to tell, which being said through monetization and ad revenues YouTube has changed the monetization policy for family content creators, stating that their policy will be targeted towards YouTubers who made kids the center of their content This policy will force family content creators to stop monetizing any family content (Riyanto, 2021) This leads to the fact that some family content creators in Indonesia used to monetize their channel and make a living out of it At some point, a family content creator with the initial W has been producing many contents in their channels With the main focus on the many membered families, it isn’t a surprise that the said family were growing every year. The successful point of their life is something one should praise for, but becoming one of their main source of income, this family content creator has been making many profits from their channel Even if they have other sources of

income, their YouTube channel has taken the number 1 spot as their main source It doesn’t end here, every member of the family even created their own YouTube channel despite most of them being young Within each channel having more than 1 million subscribers, it isn’t a surprise that many people feel mixed emotions about the said family (Wijayanti, 2022) After all, it feels as if they don’t even have any privacy left Technically speaking, what’s the impact of this type of content on the family itself? As we all know, positive adult attention is necessary for young members of the family to develop proper emotional skills like empathy, confidence, and trust These things can’t be accomplished if the young members are spending time with their adult model through camera lens, as their emotional development will be stunted along the relationship with their family This is why, the consistent recording and direction of the said young member’s life will create an untrusting and needy adult later in the future (Leiby, 2022)

Up until now, the family content creator with the initial W is still being questioned by the public eye Based on an article published in June 2022, the family is still away from Indonesia It’s to be said that they have returned by the recent time of the year now, but no matter where they go, many social media users are still making fun of them (Junior, 2022) Through all of this, it’s safe to say that we as social media users can’t fully trust the digital space itself It’s not an uncommon fact by now, due to how even the most fun and light hearted channel can turn their own content for profits and into a source of income. We certainly think at one point social media is a secure place to share our thoughts, feelings, and lives with one another and that the more secure technology will fix problems

within inauthenticity that the digital space is creating But the truth of it all will come to a revelation that everyone’s true nature on social media causes many people to be fake, including the innocent looking family channels on YouTube. Just with the right editing, filter, and status can already project an image of a life far better than the one we authentically experience (Deutsch, 2018) From this point on end, let’s ask ourselves, “how can we create a well being family without the involvement of any social media pressure, spotlight, and underlying businesses?”

The answer is really simple because most parents have already done it To create a well being family is to understand each and every family member in it Older adult figures who are in charge should be setting the needed

boundaries, communication, and discipline in a household It’s important that we need to limit social media to an extent without it damaging our family To conclude, quality time is also a must (Family Lives, 2022) But the exploitation of quality time should be prohibited. Quality time is quality time, it’s needed for the growth of the family Quality time is not a source of profit, and we as humans need to understand this.

Christmas on Deck: Do Market Sales Meet Their High End?

hristmas has just arrived, a truly jolly time of the year! People will go out of their way to set up decorations and make their homes as festive

It’s not a surprise that we’ll find houses full of from the front porch up to the top of the roof Even many people will go as far as dressing up as Santa Claus and his loyal elves to storm the neighborhood block and bring presents for good kids Such a wonderful event, isn’t it? Though as people busy themselves with Christmas, one question still remains Do market sales meet their high end when entering the festive season? We've interviewed a couple of people in the local market to give their statements and experience surrounding this matter

Both sides of demand and supply are related to prices, as it’s their main focus Though, what’s the meaning of price? In general, price means the value of money that has to be paid by a consumer to a producer, in which the consumers are the customers and the producers are the sellers. In other words, a price can be seen as the value of an item or service that’s set by the seller as well as the amount of money that the consumers charged off in trying to produce benefits obtained by the seller In this case, the prices formed in the markets themselves are seen from the high or low price level that occurred over the deal between the demand of consumers and the supply of producers (Adrio F, n d, hal 4 6) This is also called market equilibrium, which happens when a certain price level of the demand quantity is equal to the supply quantity Equilibrium shows a point of static where the variable in it will likely not change and stay the way it is (Damanik & Sasongko, n.d, hal.45).

But before that, a little bit of explanation doesn’t hurt right? After all, we’re all learning about the prices of markets and their ways of nature The economy being the foundation of a market’s operation and structure needs to be understood first to be able to relate with such matter. Within a market exist two things called demand and supply, the two activities underlying economic activity These two are what controls the market and operates them But really, how does the mechanism of a market work? A market is built from interactions that occur between demand from the consumer side and supply from the producer side to create a price with both sides’ strengths This is why, learning the behaviour of demand and supply are the basics of the economy that we need to understand (Kasdi, 2016, hal 18 19)

It’s important to note that consumers need maximum satisfaction whereas producers need maximum profits, and to fulfill both needs of these 2 means to be able to form a line of balance that doesn’t result in any disadvantages

Enough with the explanations surrounding this matter, it’s time for us to delve deeper and ask thorough questions directly in the field This time, we've interviewed people from a local market called “Pasar Karombasan” located in Manado, South Sulawesi, Indonesia Being a region dominated by Christians, Christmas is usually celebrated in big events unlike other regions in Indonesia Which is why there should be changes in the price of items and services right? After all, different seasons offer different necessities for the people here Well, Ms Tati who has worked in Pasar Karombasan for more than 15 years has stated that there were some minor increases in the supply of the items she was selling

Entering Pasar Karombasan was a journey to find consumers who weren’t busy doing their activities It doesn’t help the fact that the interview we'd done took place on Wednesday, the most busiest day for people to work and not wander in a market But thankfully we've found a couple of people who would like to give their answers surrounding the matter at hand. Two 17 year olds Enike and Echa who were just done buying some fruits and herbs have shared their thoughts about the increases in prices when entering Christmas Their main priority when buying items in the market are vegetables and spices, in which they further implied that there were no increase in the

prices of the said items Christmas is like any other day in their life, and they continue to state that they felt no thorough increases or changes when entering the festive season In a closing statement, they hoped this stability of prices and the general market’s system would continue, seeing as both of these teens are currently living in a dorm and are still in high school getting their monthly allowances from their families So, quite a surprise right?

To conclude it all, Christmas does indeed affect the market in both prices and situation of items or services. Even so, not everything is affected by the season and when it does, sometimes it would only be minor increases.

By working as a vegetable and leaf spices, Ms Tati said she would be selling around a dozen of items at Christmas, which would be sold out quickly in a short time It was to be said that the usual prices for the items she was selling were around Rp 30 000,00 per 1 kilogram but have increased up to Rp 35.000,00 until Rp 40 000,00 per kilogram when entering Christmas So, it’s important to note that Christmas does indeed impact the supply and prices for sellers, but this doesn’t apply to everybody else It can be seen from an interview that I’ve done with one of the sellers called Ms. Ivana who works by selling fruits like bananas in the market Having been working in the market for 2 years,

As I have stated, different seasons offer different necessities for people. While yes there are some items to have experienced increases such as leaf spices and vegetables, it isn’t always a major one, especially in Pasar Karombasan For an exchange, most people there have stated that they felt no major increases or changes when entering Christmas and have always run the market like they would any other day This is due to how the prices have kept their stability and not skyrocket unlike other regions in Indonesia, which would experience major increases in the prices of markets It was also said that during Christmas 2021, the movement of prices

Ms. Ivana further replied that many consumers were indeed active in buying bananas during the Christmas season. Even so, the total purchase of customers are likely the same as any other normal day, which Ms Ivana clarified even more that the many customers she received in the holiday season just sums up to about the total profits as per usual, meaning there were no increases throughout it whole based on Ms Ivana statements These are the point of view from the producers side in Pasar Karombasan, but what about the consumer side? Do they feel any increases surrounding the items or services in the market itself during Christmas?

for market items were monitored to be in a normal state (Kementerian Perdagangan, 2021) Throughout this, it’s quite shocking isn’t it that most people didn’t feel a major impact of Christmas on the items they’re selling or buying? Well, perhaps Christmas has its wonders too Who would have known, especially you reading this. Have you known such facts or are taken aback by the market’s price and Christmas in Pasar Karombasan?

Healthy Lifestyle as the Key for Society's Prosperity

he West and Central of Indonesia

situation that brings joy or every form of success nor luck is called prosperity. This thing is not strange to human ears,

but that doesn’t mean humans often experience it also Prosperity doesn’t happen out of nowhere, because we as humans need to realize of all things that bring prosperity So, there’s no wrong in starting with ourselves But, how can prosperity relate to a healthy lifestyle? To put it simply, a healthy lifestyle is a style that takes notice of every aspect of our health condition, which includes foods, daily habits, physical activities, and so on. The practice of a healthy lifestyle in daily life is crucial to avoid any form of problems or health related issues that can take the life of someone (Jurnalis Nuansa, 2022)

A lifestyle that someone applies in their life will affect their surroundings Someone with a stable healthy lifestyle can urge other people around them to do so too, which this matter can bring more effects The effect of healthy lifestyles in society can vary, one of them being the health field When society is capable to apply a healthy lifestyle every day, then it would impact Indonesia's health quality in a brighter light From this, people who are beginning to get used to a healthy lifestyle can increase their body’s metabolism and minimize every form of illness that can attack a person vulnerable to these things. Which is why a healthy lifestyle is important, isn’t it? (Aprieleony, 2021)

However, when we’re looking at our surroundings every day, is the people near have applied a healthy lifestyle in their life? Have we applied a healthy lifestyle in our life? As the world grew and become more modern, turns out more people are forgetting healthy lifestyles in their daily lives. This is due to how busy people can be in their daily activities that makes them forget the healthy lifestyle that they need to apply A healthy lifestyle that’s important for our health is needed because for the record, humans need health for their daily activities. Which is why, this matter shouldn’t be underestimated anymore as health is a gift from God and every aspect of our life is based on our health (Herlina, 2014, hal 1)

A healthy lifestyle will not be separated from the consumption of food. While food is a crucial thing for humans, not every food is good for the health of humans to be consumed and we should know this fact According to data that was published by Badan Pusat Statistik Kabupaten Rembang, it was shown that the consumption of food in 2021 has increased such as grains reached 10,98%, fish until squids reached 6,52%, meat reached 3,07%, and vegetables increased to reach around 8,66% This is a positive accomplishment, but sadly the data surrounding the consumption percentage doesn’t end only here because there’s one type of food that’s still consumed in a large amount by Indonesians The food itself is fast food that reached a consumption rate of 33,74% in 2021. Though this isn’t a surprise anymore, it can’t be normalized Fast food isn’t good for the health of our bodies and there needs to be a realization to stop the consumption of this type of food

The importance of healthy lifestyles has been voiced, but how can we apply it in our daily lives if we don’t even know the ways and steps? People who are not used to healthy lifestyles will experience difficulty in undergoing it, but that doesn’t mean this thing can’t be done by them Knowing our medical condition and evaluating our physical activities are the basics of a healthy lifestyle. Experts have recommended that the duration of the total minimum to exercise is 150 minutes every week. Aside from physical activities, mental health is crucial in undergoing a healthy lifestyle So, make sure to always mingle with the right people who can make us comfortable and support our healthy lifestyle! But, if we are already indulged in bad habits, then consider the decision to stop these things because there are no positive impacts in them Especially when we’re trying to apply a lifestyle that supports every form of healthy aspect in life (Kementrian Kesehatan, 2018)

Have we done enough exercise? - Detik.com
The people and their prosperity Bloomberg.com

Rather than focusing our attention on negative things, we should focus on consuming healthy foods and fulfilling the needs of our body's fluid Meeting the fulfillment of our body’s fluid can be done when we drink at least 6 8 glasses of water per day as per advised because water prevents diseases such as kidney stones and constipation from occurring Besides this, stress management must also be done to avoid the pressure that can affect the well being of our health But the main point that’s important in carrying out a healthy lifestyle is getting enough rest to take care of our bodies and minds Therefore, make sure our sleeping hours are met by sleeping and waking up at the same time. From each of these things, it can be seen that adopting a healthy lifestyle requires a lot of changes from within us However, the real key to a healthy lifestyle is the consistent efforts made every day (Kementrian Kesehatan, 2018)

In the previous steps I have mentioned above, it’s important to underline the words "consumption of healthy foods and the evaluation of physical activities" because these two things are crucial in a healthy lifestyle Observing our diet is a must to know the calories consumed each day Especially for those of us who have weight problems or unhealthy eating habits, data collection on the food we consumed every day is very important as a reminder that the food we consume has exceeded the required calorie needs for our body. This will encourage us to maintain a healthier body and lifestyle (Ministry of Health, 2018) However, what is meant by a nutritious and balanced diet?

According to Direktorat Sekolah Menengah Pertama, such diets pay attention to the composition of the types of food in them and are done regularly without being excessive or lacking. This diet needs to be applied as a source of energy for the body and maintains the body's immunity It also helps repair damaged cells, regulates the body's metabolism, and makes the body develop properly We can manage a healthy and balanced diet by applying the term called “4 sehat dan 5 sempurna”, where the nutrients and food substances in this term include carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, water, and vitamins.

The evaluation of physical activities or exercises for the body will bring many benefits and impacts in everyday life However, several factors must be considered before exercising. We have to make sure our bodies are in good condition, especially for people who are not used to physical activity before If we are proven to have a healthy body, then we can start to make a realistic exercise plan and choose the type of exercise that suits our body's capacity and abilities. There are various types of exercise, such as aerobic, weight and muscle training, flexibility, balance, and other forms of exercise If we exercise to lose weight, then World Health Organization (WHO) recommends muscle strength exercises that should be done 2 or more days a week

Before we exercise, don't forget to always warm up and cool down afterward We also need to monitor our heart rate because letting the heart beat too fast will harm the overall health of our body The last thing that’s very important for us to do during exercise is to drink enough water and maintain a healthy body during exercise Sweating will occur while exercising which makes our body lose fluids and puts us at risk of becoming dehydrated. Dehydration will cause muscle cramps, so it's important to keep our body hydrated (Irawan, 2019)

One of the examples of an exercise program journal that was done for 2 weeks

The world of exercise has various forms of data collection that must be done to find out the condition and status of our body, and these things are called BMI, BBI, and KKT These things may sound strange to our ears, but it's quite easy to understand BMI or Body Mass Index is a calculation to estimate body fat based on weight and height This helps to determine whether we are underweight, healthy, overweight, or very obese Thus, BMI is very important for evaluating the risk of health problems related to weight (Makarim, 2022) After calculating BMI, then there’s BBI that must be calculated as well BBI or Berat Badan Ideal (Ideal Body Weight) is the weight that is considered the healthiest for our bodies, and this calculation refers to our height (Lestari, 2022). When we have calculated both our body’s BMI and BBI calculations, then we only need to calculate our body’s KKT KKT or Kebutuhan Kalori Total (Total Calorie Needs) is a calculation of the energy needed for our body to carry out physical activity every day KKT cannot be calculated without calculating KKB beforehand KKB or Kebutuhan Kalori Basal (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories needed by the body to carry out functions of the heart, brain, kidneys, and other organs when not doing physical activities By calculating KKB, we can automatically calculate our body's KKT (Kuaranita, 2020)

When we have calculated all these calculations regarding the condition of our body, then what should we do next? These whole calculations have a meaning behind them By obtaining the results of our body’s BMI, we can proceed to the evaluation stage to see what category our body is classified according to These categories can help us identify problems that are in our bodies and whether our body is classified as normal or not If our body condition is underweight or overweight, then BBI and KKT calculations can help return our body condition to normal and healthy

We've talked about living healthy and the various steps involved, but what is the distinctive difference between the people who have applied a healthy lifestyle and the people who are just letting their lives like the way it is? Through a consistent healthy lifestyle, our bodies will become healthier and fitter because the nutrients that enter our bodies will boost the immune system For people who are obese, a healthy lifestyle is necessary to control their body weight With this, the body will eventually feel lighter and active in doing many activities. But not only that, a healthy lifestyle will reduce the risk of disease occurring in our bodies too Though, we need to note that a healthy lifestyle greatly impacts our behavior and way of thinking, where we can become a more positive and wiser person which leads to the feeling of happiness Therefore, mental health is also triggered by the lifestyle that is applied every day (Fisipol, 2022). So, have we lived according to the lifestyle that we should have?

As humans live their parts, we’re able to know that a healthy lifestyle is something that’s generally very important Health is a necessity that we need to fulfill, so a healthy lifestyle is a big part of our lives. Talking about necessity, we haven’t yet had the time to discuss prosperity and its relations with a healthy lifestyle A consistent healthy lifestyle will turn every person into a wise and positive individual For those of us who have already applied a healthy lifestyle, then keep doing it consistently every day For those of us who haven't yet applied a healthy lifestyle and are still living between bad habits, then it's time to slowly change ourselves Adopting a healthy lifestyle is like building our broken bodies, and this has a big impact on our surroundings Indonesian people now have to be able to live a healthy lifestyle together as an example to one another A healthy lifestyle that’s carried out will have an impact on our health, and the health of all of us is our common interest together Common interests are an obligation that must be carried out to prosper, which is why we can conclude that prosperity also comes from the healthy lifestyle adopted by society itself The remaining question is, will Indonesians be able to realize that everyone's prosperity comes from a healthy lifestyle that's consistently carried out together?

Appreciating the Hard Work

The Daily Record of Benedictie is always remembering and appreciating those who have worked to their maximum capacity in the publishing process of this month's volume While they weren't frequently present, they were still our dearest friends and acquaintances who have dedicated their hearts in this volume May their hard work and dedication always be remembered in each of our hearts.
