Below the Surface: Quality Content Turned Profits here once was a made-up saying “if social media was a candy, then we would all be diabetic”. Even if it’s harsh, the truth lies in the saying. Humans are one of the most remarkable species to have walked on earth.
Indonesia's outbreak in social media users - Statista.com Talking about family content, let’s go back to kindergarten for an instance and learn once more about the meaning of family. Though, this shouldn’t be hard because we’ve already known that a group of two or more persons related by birth, marriage, or adoption is already considered a family (Health Resources & Services Administration, 2022). From here, it’s a fact known to all of us that each corresponding family members have their own roles to carry out. Real parents are supposed to ensure the well-being and safety of their child,
as well as provide many life skills for the growth of their child. Despite it, parents need to give love, acceptance, appreciation, as well as recognition to their children as they have every single right to be safe and to be treated as such (FKKMK UGM, n.d). In an uncompromised household, children need to be protected against cruelty and every form of abuse (NSW Government, n.d). So, wouldn’t it be ironic to think that most members of a family are being used as a source of money by their own adults or parents through quality content?
They can adapt to changes made by others, and up until now, they are still discovering new findings in the world. So, it isn’t a surprise when social media arises amongst people, becoming the new digital space for people to interact and share their stories. The growth of social media is remarkably fast, especially in a very populous country such as Indonesia. It's to be said that over 191 million people are using social media in January 2022. The data was observed to have a major improvement around 12,35% than last year’s amount of users (Mahdi, 2022). Indonesia’s social media contents are different than any other country. We would like to think that content such as gaming would take the number 1 spot, but in reality there are 7 out of 10
popular creators that produce content surrounding video blogs or vlogs. As there are many various types of vlogging genres to watch, “family vlogs” are quite known to suit the taste of Indonesians. This is why it isn’t a surprise that 39% of Indonesia’s top 100 content creators are dominated by such types of content (Kurniawan, 2019). Facts like these wouldn’t be obvious since many social media users enjoy family content because of their rather cute and harmless activities, whereas families would often post themselves pulling pranks on each other, living their daily routines, etc. This would later captivate people’s attention and the said family would turn successful as they have become an important role model for the users of social media (Ward, 2020).
