Our Girl Guides enjoyed the obstacle course at the Guides Eco Challenge at Camp Christin e this year. They especially enjoyed splashing about during the water activities.
Our Taekwondo members trained hard to perfect their routines, especially in synchronising with team members for the team events. This year we managed to obtain one silver and three bronze medals for the National Schools Games and we were also the Overall Champion for the Kallang Community Club Taekwondo Competition.
The mission of the National Police Cadet Corps is to develop our members to be active citizens and community leaders, by working in partnership with Singapore Police Force to fight crime and keep Singapore safe. This year, NPCC organised an outing to Marina Barrage, to foster stronger bonds among the cadets. It also serves as a reward for their hard work put in throughout the year. The cadets thoroughly enjoyed kite-flying as well as the team-bonding games planned by the UG Leaders. 1

Our students always enjoy learning journeys out of school. We organise learning journeys to institutes of higher learning where they get to learn more about different industries to help them better identify their interests and passions. This would aid students in making wise, informed decisions and choices after they graduate. En route to controlling the systems on a flight simulator and getting into the cockpit of a real aeroplane!
With the Healthcare Bus parked right at our school, students were eager to hop on to discover the exciting world of healthcare. 2

APPLIED LEARNING PROGRAMME (ALP)
HEALTH SCIENCE & HEALTHCARE TECHNOLOGY Our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) seeks to deepen students’ knowledge in STEM education where students solve authentic problems in health sciences and healthcare using technology. The problem-based learning (PBL) approach will expose our students to real world healthcare problems facing the elderly in Singapore today. They use problem-based learning approach to conduct case analysis, research and present on the possible solutions for healthcare issues. Through hands-on Science practicals, students analyse the data collected to further understand the issues at hand. The joy of learning is promoted via experiential learning with Science Practical activities. Our students develop logical and computational thinking coding that improve their digital literacy. In Sec 1, students learn the fundamentals of micro:bit block-based programming to code and create reaction games. Our Secondary 2 students explore emerging technology such as Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to build a smart home for the elderly.

LIFE OF A STUDENT LEADER As a post-exam activity, students thoroughly enjoyed the team-bonding activities, trying out kayaking and the obstacle course at Camp Challenge Sentosa. Through the activities they were able to hone their leadership skills as well as understand the five practices of the Leadership Challenge (Inspiring a Shared Vision, Modelling the Way, Challenging the Process, Encouraging the Heart and Enabling Others to Act) and how to apply them in their capacity as student leaders.

GLORY FOR SINGAPORE! Pin Xiu became the first Singaporean to win two gold medals at the 2016 Brazil Paralympics, setting two world records in the process. Both records still stand till today. This year, the four-time Paralympian dominated the Tokyo Paralympics with two gold medals, having successfully defended her title in the 100m backstroke event. Her latest win means she now has five Paralympic gold medals to her name. On Facebook, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong congratulated her. “Yip Pin Xiu has done Yip Pin Xiu on her 2nd Gold Medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games it again! She has defended her gold medal in the Women’s 50m Backstroke S2 — her second Gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. This is her fourth Paralympic Games, and with this latest win, she now has five Gold Paralympics medals under her belt, including the one from last week! Singapore is proud of you, Pin Xiu!” Passionate about speaking up for social causes close to her heart, Pin Xiu became the youngest Nominated Member of Parliament at the age of 26. One of the biggest goals Pin Xiu set for herself when she became an NMP was to help develop a better sporting culture in Singapore. She hopes that students can be exposed to different kinds of sports and find one that they enjoy. Pin Xiu has fond memories of Bendemeer Secondary School. The school has impacted her in striving to do her best in her training. It made her realise her full potential and provided her a flexible learning schedule to give her the necessary time to train. Bendemeer Secondary provided her a supportive and conducive learning environment to fulfill her dreams.
