Dear Bellflower Residents,
As we embrace the warm sunshine of the upcoming summer months, we are pleased to present the summer edition of Bellflower City Life. This publication continues our commitment to providing you with clear, reliable access to the news and events that make our community a wonderful place to call home.
June brings one of Bellflower’s most anticipated traditions, Summer Streetfest. These vibrant Thursday evenings in downtown Bellflower are a wonderful opportunity for neighbors to gather, enjoy live music and support local businesses. In July, we are also excited to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month. Our parks are the heart of our City, providing essential spaces for play, fitness and relaxation for residents of all ages. It is the perfect time to explore Bellflower’s parks and take advantage of the many programs offered by our Parks and Recreation team.
As we look forward to celebrating the Fourth of July, we encourage everyone to do their part to keep the holiday safe and enjoyable for all. To help protect our neighborhoods and residents, please remember that only “safe and sane” fireworks are permitted within the City. We thank you for your cooperation in helping maintain a safe environment throughout the holiday.
We hope this edition of Bellflower City Life helps you stay informed, engaged and connected throughout the summer months. Thank you for your continued support and for working alongside us to make Bellflower a safe and welcoming community.
Sincerely,
The City of Bellflower has a zero-tolerance policy for illegal fireworks. Illegal fireworks are dangerous and disruptive. Anyone caught possessing, using or allowing illegal fireworks to be used on their property may face hefty fines or criminal charges.
Safe and Sane fireworks are permitted for purchase and use within City limits. Safe and Sane fireworks are defined by state law and do not fly, explode or move uncontrollably. Enforcement teams will be deployed throughout the community to actively enforce these regulations and curb the use and possession of illegal fireworks.
Property owners can be held responsible for the use of illegal fireworks on their property. If illegal fireworks are found to be in use or discharged at a property, the property owner may be subject to penalties starting at $2,000.

The City of Bellflower continues to advance projects that support economic growth, expand housing opportunities and enhance the community’s long-term vision. Recent actions by the Planning Commission and City Council highlight several developments that will bring new amenities and residential options to the City.
Mia Coffee Coming to Alondra Boulevard
Coffee lovers will soon have a new place to gather in Bellflower. On March 2, the Planning Commission approved a Conditional Use Permit for Tierra Mia Coffee, at the site of the former U.S. Bank building on Alondra Boulevard.
Known for Latin-inspired craft coffee and pastries, the brand will transform the existing building with interior renovations, a new drive-thru lane and an outdoor patio. With more than two dozen locations across California, Tierra Mia will provide a fresh gathering space while revitalizing a key commercial property.
The City Council recently approved the Flower Street Specific Plan, a framework guiding future development at Flower Street and Civic Center Drive. The plan ensures new projects align with City design standards and the long-term vision for the Civic Center district.
City Ventures is currently proposing a residential project within the plan area featuring 46 three-story townhomes. This project would introduce new homeownership opportunities within walking distance of City Hall, local parks and municipal services. Together, these efforts reflect Bellflower’s continued investment in a vibrant and growing community. As these projects move forward, the City looks forward to welcoming new businesses and neighbors who will contribute to Bellflower’s bright future.
The City of Bellflower has launched its new My Bellflower mobile app, offering residents a simpler and more efficient way to connect with City services. The app provides a convenient all-in-one platform where community members can access information and request services directly from their phones.
Designed to streamline how residents interact with the City, the free app allows users to quickly submit service requests, such as reporting potholes or graffiti, check the city calendar, review upcoming events, access business licensing information and view public records. It also offers an easy way to stay informed about City programs, resources and announcements.
This new app reflects Bellflower’s ongoing commitment to improving accessibility and responsiveness in public services.

Last year, the Department of Justice reported that criminals stole or attempted to steal more than $2 billion from over 1 million elderly adults. Older adults can reduce their risk of becoming a target by following practical safety tips at home, on the road and online. By sharing this information with parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends, we can all help protect the seniors in our community.
Lock up: Always lock your doors and windows, even if you are only leaving for a few minutes.
Verify identity: Ask for identification from delivery personnel, utility workers or solicitors before opening your door. Legitimate workers will always understand and cooperate.
Notify others: Inform a trusted friend, neighbor, or family member when leaving town. Law enforcement may be able to conduct a vacation check on your home while you’re away. Keep strangers out: Never allow strangers inside your home. If someone asks to use your phone, offer to place the call for them instead.
Report activity: Report suspicious activity immediately. If you believe someone may be inside your home, leave quietly and call 911.
Be aware of your surroundings: Before entering or exiting your vehicle, take a moment to scan the area and avoid distractions such as looking at your phone. Secure the car: Keep your vehicle locked at all times and roll up all windows when leaving it unattended. Activate your alarm if your vehicle has one. Remove valuables: Never leave valuables visible in your vehicle. Take purses, bags, wallets, phones and keys with you or secure them in the trunk.
Protect personal info: Never provide personal information during an unsolicited phone call. Question “too good” offers: Be cautious of unusually generous or urgent offers.
Be suspicious: If someone asks you to send them any amount of money via a gift card or cryptocurrency, they are likely a scammer.
If you notice suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it to the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station at (562) 623-3500.
The City of Bellflower continues to strengthen its efforts to address homelessness through the Bellflower Enforcement and Safety Team (BEAST). This dedicated team brings together public safety, maintenance and community services personnel to support community safety and beautification efforts. The team also works to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with essential services.
Patrolling the City five days a week, the BEAST team regularly engages with individuals experiencing homelessness. Team members connect those who are willing to accept assistance with trusted outreach providers while also ensuring that community standards for public spaces are maintained. A key part of the BEAST team’s success is its strong partnerships with service providers, including People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and Kingdom Causes Bellflower. With a dedicated crew of outreach providers, enforcement and cleanup specialists, the City can consistently maintain public spaces while ensuring those in need have access to supportive resources.
The BEAST builds upon the City’s longstanding commitment to proactively engage with those in need in our community with regular outreach and assistance without sacrificing Bellflower’s expectations for clean and well-maintained public spaces. Through consistent enforcement and engagement efforts, the BEAST team strengthens Bellflower’s ability to respond to community needs in a thoughtful, coordinated and compassionate manner.
Community involvement and feedback are encouraged. Residents can report encampment locations by using the My Bellflower app or by contacting the Bellflower Sheriff’s Substation at 562-925-0124.
The Los Angeles County Homeless Outreach Portal (LA-HOP) is another tool to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with available services by allowing requests for outreach and assistance to be submitted online.

Bellflower residents can play a critical role in making Bellflower safer by reporting suspicious and criminal activities to law enforcement. Information collected from residents can help law enforcement officers identify suspects, solve criminal cases and prevent crimes before they happen.
Residents can help deter crime by reporting suspicious activity to the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station at (562) 623-3500 and staying engaged through local Neighborhood Watch programs. Call 911 immediately if you witness a crime or believe one is about to happen imminently. For nonemergency situations, you can call the non-emergency line at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station, (562) 623-3500. Emergencies are situations that require immediate assistance and present a danger to either people or property.
When speaking with a dispatcher, keep these guidelines in mind
• Stay calm: Speak clearly and allow the dispatcher to ask questions.
• State your location: Provide your exact location, including the address or nearby landmarks.
• Prioritize safety: Never put yourself in danger to r get a better description of a suspect.
• Be brief: Provide a short description of what happened and the extent of injuries or damage.
• Identify the suspect: Describe their height, weight, clothing, hair color/style, facial hair and any identifying marks.
• Note weapons: Describe any weapons.
• Identify vehicles: Include make, model, color and license plate number.
• Stay on the line: Do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to do so.
At its core, crime prevention is about fostering a relationship between members of the community and the law enforcement officers protecting it. The more connected you become with your neighbors, the safer your community becomes. Participating in your local Neighborhood Watch program helps you to work with the people in your community to ensure that law enforcement is able to address suspicious and dangerous activity in your neighborhood.
Be alert, stay connected and remember that you can help keep Bellflower safe for everyone.

Burglaries, whether targeting your car or home, are largely crimes of opportunity. A few simple precautions can make a significant difference in keeping your property safe.
In as little as 10 seconds, a thief can steal thousands of dollars’ worth of property from an unsecured car. Reduce your risk by:
• Removing all valuables (even loose change) or locking them in the trunk
• Always locking doors, windows, hatches, and sunroofs
• Never leaving your car running unattended or hiding spare keys inside
• Parking in a garage or well-lit area
• Using anti-theft devices such as a car alarm, steering wheel lock, or engine disabler
Owners of work trucks and vans should park in secure, well-lit areas, mark tools with serial numbers, maintain an equipment inventory, and avoid leaving tools unsecured in truck beds.
Follow these tips to secure all entry points and make your property less appealing to criminals:
• Install deadbolt locks on all exterior doors and add locks to windows, sliding glass doors, gates, garages and sheds
• Use thorny or prickly bushes near windows and fences as a natural deterrent
• Trim trees and shrubs to eliminate hiding spots and remove roof access
• Store bicycles, mowers, and other valuables in a locked garage or shed
• Maintain your property by fixing broken windows, replace burnt-out bulbs and clear litter and graffiti
Lastly, one of the most effective crime prevention tools is community involvement. A strong partnership between residents and law enforcement discourages criminal activity throughout Bellflower. Please report suspicious activity to the Lakewood Sheriff Station at (562) 623-3500 and join your Local Neighborhood Watch Program.

The City of Bellflower has received a clean Single Audit report, reflecting strong financial oversight and responsible management of public funds.
The Single Audit, an independent review required for governments that receive federal funding, evaluated the City’s fiscal year 2024-25 financial practices. The audit found no significant deficiencies, compliance issues, or material weaknesses in internal financial controls. The “clean” result confirms the City meets high standards for transparency, accountability and regulatory compliance.
During the last fiscal year, federal funding supported several key programs, including the development of an Urban Forestry Management Plan, entrepreneurial training programs and home improvement and down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers. These initiatives help enhance quality of life, expand economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income residents and support public safety efforts.
This clean audit ensures the City remains eligible for future federal funding and reflects the continued efforts of staff across departments to maintain strong financial practices and serve the Bellflower community responsibly.
The Bellflower Looking Better Program is expanding in 2026 with updated guidelines and enhanced services. This long-running residential improvement initiative supports community beautification by organizing neighborhood yard sales and providing convenient trash dumpsters to help residents clear unwanted items from their properties. Residents interested in participating in the community yard sale must pre-register and host their sale. Yard sales will take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. within each neighborhood’s designated boundaries. To help boost participation, the City will promote the event with yard sale signage and social media advertising.
On the Saturday following each yard sale, free dumpsters will be available for residents to dispose of leftover items. Please note that hazardous materials, electronic waste, tires, oil and construction debris are not accepted in the dumpsters.
See below for Summer 2026 program dates:
Area 5

The City of Bellflower has several exciting projects underway to improve infrastructure, public spaces and the overall quality of life for residents. These efforts are part of a broader commitment to Bellflower’s future. Earlier this year, the City Council adopted the 2025–2027 Strategic Plan outlining the City’s long-term vision, goals and priorities, developed with input from residents, business owners and community members. Among its core goals is a dedication to improving quality of life and visual appeal, with the City committed to upgrading parks, enhancing public spaces and improving critical infrastructure across Bellflower. The projects below are a direct reflection of that commitment in action. Here’s a look at what’s currently in progress:
Work is underway on Alondra Boulevard as part of a comprehensive street repaving project. Improvements include asphalt resurfacing, ADA modifications to sidewalk approaches, new striping and the installation of decorative crosswalks designed to complement the aesthetic of Bellflower’s downtown areas.
Each year, the City allocates funding for street repairs through a variety of projects. As part of this year’s program, slurry seal is being applied to select streets throughout the City to preserve and extend the life of the pavement. Streets are prioritized based on the recommendations of the Pavement Management System, a comprehensive report that evaluates the condition of all City streets and identifies those most in need of repair.
A safe and inclusive space that promotes responsible pet ownership, connection and active recreation. The new park expands access to off-leash recreation and offers another convenient option for residents to enjoy with their dogs close to home.
The park is the City’s second off-leash dog park and includes separate areas for small and large dogs, providing space for both active play and more casual use.
California American Water recently completed a water main replacement project in Bellflower, improving the reliability and safety of local water infrastructure.

On March 17, the City of Bellflower was awarded two grants through the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District’s Competitive Grant Program. Combined, the grants total more than $4.48 million and will support key investments in open space, environmental sustainability, and recreational amenities for Bellflower residents.
Presented during the Measure A Grant Awards Ceremony, the City received $4 million to advance the Simms Park Regional Stormwater Capture project. This initiative will help capture and manage stormwater runoff, contributing to regional water conservation efforts and improving long-term environmental health. The project includes a 4-million-gallon underground storage system that will improve water quality while enhancing Simms Park with new recreational amenities, native landscaping and upgraded sports fields.
The City also received $482,699 to support improvements at the Bellflower Sports Park. These funds will support planning, design and environmental work for a new sports park near the San Gabriel River, featuring pickleball courts, multipurpose fields and expanded recreational opportunities.
These awards reflect the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing quality of life for all who live, work and play in Bellflower. By leveraging county funding, the City is able to invest in infrastructure and open space projects that benefit both current and future generations.
