Melissa’s must haves

This season…

S

Dear Readers,

Summer is always a vibrant season for the beauty industry. It’s a time when clients feel inspired to refresh their look, embrace new trends and invest in treatments that help them look and feel their best. This year, we’re seeing a particularly exciting blend of innovation, wellness and artistry, as professionals continue to elevate both the client experience and treatment outcomes.

In this issue, we take a closer look at some of the key trends and developments shaping the sector. One of the standout topics is the continued growth of LED light therapy. Once considered a specialist offering, LED has become a mainstream treatment option in salons and clinics, driven by growing demand for effective, non-invasive solutions that deliver visible results. We’re also exploring the ongoing rise of the beauty-from-within movement. As clients’ become increasingly focused on overall wellbeing, supplements and holistic approaches to beauty are gaining momentum, reflecting a broader understanding of the connection between health, confidence and appearance.

Another trend attracting significant attention is the Korean Lash Lift. Renowned for creating beautifully lifted, natural-looking lashes while

prioritising lash health, this technique is rapidly gaining popularity among clients seeking low-maintenance enhancement treatments. We explore why this Korean-inspired beauty innovation continues to influence professional services around the world.

“The GelBottle Inc’s opaque raspberry pink Paloma shade, from their new Glow collection, is perfect to wear on toes to show off a summer tan.”

Of course, creativity remains at the heart of our industry, and this issue is packed with inspiration. From Zsuzsanna Varga’s vibrant tropical nail designs and Natalia Belc-Dobrzynska’s stunning shell-inspired creations to Chloe Houston’s soft pastel hair colour collection, there is no shortage of fresh ideas to take into the season ahead.

What continues to inspire me most about our sector is its ability to evolve while keeping clients firmly at its centre. Whether through advanced technology, wellness-focused treatments or inventive new techniques, beauty professionals like you consistently demonstrate yourp assion, skill and commitment to excellence.

“Curated Beauty London’s Flawless Defence SPF50 & Primer is a hybrid skincare winner. I apply and go with my skin looking instantly smoother and fresher.”

I hope this issue introduces you to new ideas, helps you stay ahead of emerging trends and reminds you why the beauty industry remains one of the most dynamic and rewarding sectors to be part of. Best wishes,

Melissa Dennis Editor

AIT Members’ News Ensuring you’re covered for summer risks

S

Summer is a peak moment for Ireland’s hair and beauty industry. Clients are booking holidays, weddings, festivals, race days and outdoor events, and many are more willing to invest in treatments that help them feel polished, confident and ready for the season. For Irish salons, beauty therapists and mobile professionals, this creates a valuable commercial opportunity while also bringing a sharper need for the right professional protection, particularly as warmer weather, increased UV exposure and clients trying quick-fix treatments can all affect treatment outcomes. Summer risk reminders for AIT members

• Ensure you carry out thorough consultations before tinting, tanning, waxing, peels, lashes, brows and advanced skin treatments.

• Make patch testing part of the client journey, particularly where products, adhesives, dyes or actives are used.

• Give clear aftercare advice for

For beauty professionals across Ireland, insurance should not be treated as a oncea-year admin task; it should evolve with the business. If your salon adds new seasonal treatments, introduces mobile appointments, starts retailing aftercare products or rents chairs to freelancers, the cover in place should be reviewed to ensure it reflects how the business is actually operating and growing. Don’t forget that AIT not only offers individual beauty therapist insurance, but you can also gain a specific cover for nails, makeup and tanning services, hair and barbering and complementary therapy, plus we also offer salon policies. If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact the AIT team on +44 1789 773573, email us at info@aitireland.com or visit the website at www.aitireland.com; we’re here to support beauty and hair professionals with cover that reflects the way you work.

treatments affected by heat, UV exposure, chlorine, salt water or sweating.

• Keep records of consent, contraindications, product use and client advice, especially for clients trying treatments for the first time.

• Check that freelancers, chair renters and mobile professionals understand their own insurance responsibilities.

As we pass the mid-way point of the year, trends are pointing towards a more considered client mindset in 2026. People are still spending on beauty, hair and grooming, but they are looking for visible results, convenience and treatments that feel worth the investment.

Hidden admin cost of salon payments highlighted

New data from Phorest has revealed the hidden operational cost of payment administration for Irish salons, spas and clinics. The software provider says the issue lies not in taking payments, but in the manual follow-up, including cashing up, reconciling transactions and resolving tip queries.

Phorest data shows that businesses using fully integrated payment systems spend up to 12 fewer hours a month on end-of-day admin. Digital tipping prompts are also linked to an average 25% increase in tips, while booking deposits can reduce no-shows by as much as 69%. Luke Doolin, Country Manager for Ireland, UK and UAE at Phorest, said:

The Impossible Pursuit of

50/50 Women in the beauty industry need to stop chasing an equal work/life balance, says Katie Godfrey.

L

et me say something that might ruffle a few feathers. Balance, the kind we are constantly told to strive for, does not exist. Not the neat, tidy, perfectly divided version anyway and I think the sooner we stop pretending it does, the healthier and more successful we will all be. As women in the beauty industry, we carry a particular kind of weight. We are running salons and clinics, leading teams, serving clients, raising children, managing homes and somewhere in the middle of all of that, trying to take care of

ourselves. The pressure to do all of it beautifully and simultaneously is immense, but the idea that we should be splitting our time and energy equally across all of it, every single day, is not just unrealistic, it is is setting us up to feel like we are constantly failing.

From experience I know that balance is not a fixed state, it is a constant, fluid adjustment and the sooner we give ourselves permission to embrace that, the better. There are seasons in business when everything demands more of you; 23

Katie Godfrey...................................................................................................................................................................

“As women, we are not built to operate at the same pace and energy level every single day of the month”

a new treatment launch, a team member leaving, a growth phase, a difficult month. During those periods, the business is going to take more of your time and energy. That is not failure, that is reality. And then there are calmer seasons, when things are ticking along and you naturally have more space to be present at home, with your children, with yourself.

The key is not to divide yourself equally between all things, but to be fully present in whatever you are doing in that moment. This is where boundaries become everything. Set clear times when your team cannot contact you unless it is a genuine emergency. Create windows in your week where you are truly away from the salon. Make the time spent with your children sacred. These things do not happen by accident, they have to be designed and you have to be the one who designs them.

24

Start working with our cycles, not against them

Here is something we do not talk about enough, even in an industry built almost entirely by and for women… hormones. As women, we are not built to operate at the same pace and energy level every single day of the month. Yet most business models are designed as though we are and then we wonder why we feel like we are falling short.

There are times in our cycle where we feel sharp, creative, energised and ready to take on the world. Those are the days to schedule your consultations, your team training, your content creation, your big decisions. Then there are phases where our energy dips, where we need more rest, more gentleness and less pressure. Those are not the days to push through and prove something. Those are the days for the quieter work, the admin, the planning, the reflection.

.................................................................................................................................................................. Katie Godfrey

When we understand our own rhythms and start working with them rather than fighting them, everything shifts. We stop feeling broken for not being “on” every day. We become more strategic, more effective and a whole lot kinder to ourselves in the process.

Self-care sustains everything else

There is something quietly ironic about the beauty industry. We dedicate our careers to helping other people feel good, look after themselves and carve out time for self-care and yet so many of the women running these businesses are last in line for any of it.

As women, we are conditioned to put ourselves last, to pour into everyone else first and take what is left. But if you drop the ball on yourself and burn out, you cannot look after anyone else properly. Not your team, not your clients and, if you’re a mother, not your children. Self-care is not indulgent, it is how you sustain everything else. This might look like a morning routine that sets you up right or a workout that clears your head. It could mean booking your own treatments in advance so they actually happen, enjoying a meal not eaten standing over the kitchen counter or sleep that is prioritised. These are not treats, they are maintenance. Guilt is one of the biggest things that holds women back. The guilt of taking time for yourself when there is always more to do, but you are not a better mother because you are running on empty. You are not a better leader because you have sacrificed your own wellbeing. You are a more patient parent, a more inspiring leader and a more creative business owner when you are looked after. Full stop.

“You are not a better leader because you have sacrificed your own wellbeing” Redefining what success actually looks like

The pressure women in our industry feel to do it all and look effortless while doing it is something I want us to collectively release. So many of the salon and clinic owners I work with are fully booked, running busy teams and still feeling like they are not doing enough, because they have been sold the idea that success means having it all perfectly together, all at once.

Real success looks like a business that works without requiring you to destroy yourself. Stop measuring your balance by how evenly you are dividing yourself and start measuring it by how intentional you are being. Are you present when you need to be present? Are you boundaried when you need to be boundaried? Are you showing up for yourself, not just everyone else? That is the real work; not the impossible pursuit of 50/50 but the honest, daily practice of knowing what matters most right now and giving it everything you have got. Because you can have a busy beauty business and a beautiful family life and take care of yourself. Just not all at exactly the same time.

THE YEAR-ROUND

ESSENTIAL

Educate clients that SPF is their most significant anti-ageing tool and boost your retail sales with these skincare essentials. Super Ultra Nutrition by Storyderm, is a unique cream with SPF 50 PA++++.

“While SPF measures protection against UVB (burning), the PA rating measures UVA protection, which prevents deeper skin damage, tanning and premature ageing,” explains Clare O’Hanlon of Boost Beauty. “PA stands for Protection Grade of UVA, and PA+ ratings measure a product’s ability to block UVA rays. PA rating is most commonly found in K-Beauty sunscreens only. “A PA++++ rating means the product is more than 16 times more effective at blocking UVA rays compared to unprotected skin.” In addition to completely blocking UVA and UVB rays, plant extracts, natural antioxidants and panthenol hydrate the skin, accelerate skin’s regeneration process, soothe and restore damaged barrier functions. Combining sun protection with cosmetic benefits, Nuxe Sun-Kissed Fluid High Protection SPF30 protects against UVA, UVB and blue light using an exclusive blend of three filters and two esters. It supports hydration, provides anti-ageing cellular protection and helps defend against oxidative stress.

The fluid texture glides easily onto skin, leaving a smooth, non-greasy finish. With 100% natural-origin pigment particles, it adapts to all skin tones for a subtle, even, sun-kissed glow that resists transfer. Suitable for all skin types, non-comedogenic and dermatologically tested, it is finished with notes of coconut, tiare flower and vanilla. Nuxe: ee.nuxe.com

LED Therapy....................................................................................................................................................................

Light Work

Professional LED therapy is coming of age, with Irish salons and clinics embracing its versatility across skin, scalp and advanced aesthetic treatments.

L

ED therapy has firmly moved into mainstream professional use, bridging the gap between non-invasive treatments and results-driven outcomes. Across Ireland, where demand for low-downtime services continues to grow, practitioners are weaving LED into facials, advanced aesthetic treatments and increasingly scalp services, often alongside targeted skincare to enhance results.

“Once viewed as a niche add-on within advanced facials, LED therapy is rapidly establishing itself as a core category within professional beauty,” says David Sneddon of +maskology® (maskology.co.uk). “As clients continue to prioritise non-invasive, results-driven

30

treatments with minimal downtime, salons and clinics are increasingly integrating LED into both skin and scalp protocols, not simply as a trend-led enhancement, but as part of a more sophisticated, evidence-informed treatment approach.”

“LED therapy has become one of the fastestgrowing technologies within advanced skincare and aesthetic practice, with increasing demand for treatments targeting skin rejuvenation, acne management, inflammation support and scalp health,” adds Joanne Quinn Geoghegan, educator and founder of Beautorium Training Academy (beautoriumtrainingacademy.ie), based in Waterford.

................................................................................................................................................................... LED Therapy

“LED phototherapy requires a strong understanding of skin health, wavelength selection and combination protocols” – Joanne Quinn Geoghegan.

“After a chemical peel, red light supports barrier recovery and stimulates fibroblast activity at precisely the moment the skin is primed to respond. These are not arbitrary combinations. There is a photobiological rationale for each one, and that is how LED should be used.”

Understanding how LED works

Expanding into scalp services

“Blue light and red light therapies are not the same. They work at different wavelengths, penetrate the skin at different depths and treat different concerns,” explains Lauren Evans of CACI (cacibeauty.com).

“The story in professional hair and scalp practice is earlier, but it is building,” notes Farrah. “Trichologists and forward-thinking salon owners are beginning to explore near-infrared therapy for scalp health, specifically for its ability to improve microcirculation and reduce inflammation linked to common scalp concerns.”

LED therapy uses specific wavelengths of light, each associated with different treatment outcomes. Delivered through panels, masks or handheld devices, it allows therapists to tailor treatments to individual concerns.

Blue light (around 405–470nm) works at surface level and is best known for targeting acnecausing bacteria. Red light (typically 630– 660nm) penetrates deeper and is associated with supporting collagen production, reducing inflammation and improving overall skin quality. Near-infrared (700–1100nm) reaches deeper into tissue and is often used to support healing and recovery.

“Emerging clinical evidence suggests these wavelengths may help support healing responses, reduce visible inflammation and improve overall skin recovery following aesthetic procedures,” adds Kate Monteith Ross, member of the Dermalux Clinical Advisory Board (dermaluxledpro.com). “Near-infrared light can be particularly useful when managing compromised or highly inflamed skin.” Farrah Mohamed, neuroscientist and director of Neo Elegance (neoelegance.co.uk) emphasises the importance of using LED with intention. “Take post-microneedling, for example. The skin is in an active inflammatory state, that’s by design,” she says. “Near-infrared light at that stage accelerates the resolution of that inflammation and supports the skin’s natural repair process, without disrupting what the treatment has set in motion.

While widely established in facial aesthetics, LED is also gaining traction in scalp and hair treatments across forward-thinking Irish salons.

As the concept of ‘scalp as skin’ continues to gain ground, LED is expected to become a more routine part of treatment menus.

Why LED is seeing renewed demand

Although LED technology is not new, several factors are driving its resurgence in Ireland and beyond. Improved device performance, clearer clinical understanding and rising consumer awareness have all contributed. “LED has reached an inflection point in professional practice,” explains Farrah. “We are past the era of novelty. Practitioners are now asking for irradiance data, peerreviewed evidence and structured protocols before they invest. When you understand the photobiology, LED is not an optional extra – it is one of the most powerful tools in a modern treatment room.”

Earlier concerns around underperforming devices are also being addressed, with newer systems offering greater accuracy and sufficient energy output to deliver meaningful biological responses.

Consumer awareness is growing too, fuelled by high-profile endorsements and increased accessibility of at-home devices. This, in turn, is driving clients into clinics seeking professionalgrade results.

Training, compliance & choosing devices

Despite its accessibility, LED therapy requires more than a basic understanding to deliver safely and effectively. “While LED phototherapy is often marketed as a simple treatment, professional application requires a strong understanding of skin health, wavelength selection, treatment planning, contraindications and combination protocols,” says Joanne Quinn Geoghegan. For Irish practitioners, completing accredited training and selecting devices that meet recognised safety standards is essential. Device quality remains a key differentiator.

A modern treatment essential

In today’s results-driven and increasingly knowledge-led professional environment, LED therapy is no longer a simple add-on. Instead, it is evolving into a clinically relevant modality that rewards precision, consistency and education. For Irish salons and clinics willing to invest in training, high-quality devices and structured protocols, LED offers a compelling combination of versatility, safety and measurable results. As understanding of photobiology deepens and technology continues to advance, its place in the modern treatment room looks only set to strengthen.

“Not all LED devices are equal,” stresses Farrah Mohamed. “It comes down to irradiance, wavelength accuracy and protocol. Without sufficient irradiance, you are not triggering a cellular response. Without accurate wavelengths, you are not targeting the biological mechanisms the research is based on. And without a structured protocol, even a good device will produce inconsistent results.”

Protocols, consistency & aftercare

Consistency is critical when it comes to LED results. A structured course of treatments, followed by maintenance sessions, is typically recommended. “The reason we see stars like Victoria Beckham using these masks regularly is simple: consistency is the bridge between a good result and a transformative one,” highlights facialist and aesthetician Eavanna Breen (eavannabreen.ie). CACI’s Lauren Evans adds: “Visible results can often be seen after just one treatment. However, the best outcomes are achieved through a course of treatments, as the benefits build progressively over time.” Aftercare is another of LED’s positives, making it particularly appealing to busy clients.

“One of LED’s real strengths in a professional setting is how well clients tolerate it,” says Farrah. “There is no downtime, no barrier disruption, no peeling. Post-treatment guidance is straightforward: avoid strong active ingredients for 12–24 hours and apply broad-spectrum SPF.” To enhance outcomes further, therapists can incorporate targeted skincare before and after treatment. Hydrating serums, vitamin C and niacinamide-based products can all support results between appointments.

Launching as an extension of the brand’s existing LED Mask, the Skinvity Silicone LED Neck Mask combines advanced red, blue and infrared LED light therapy within a flexible Silicone device designed specifically for the neck and décolleté area. It features five clinically supported wavelengths, including antibacterial blue light and 1072nm – the deepestpenetrating wavelength available.

Designed to mould comfortably to the skin for optimal LED coverage, the device works to support skin firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality while targeting visible signs of ageing and fatigue. Skinvity: skinvity.com

Jennifer Evans .................................................................................................................................................................

Are you on the

Numbers? A

As business owners, we often review everything – our services, pricing, team performance and marketing strategies, but one area that is frequently overlooked is our accountant. Many of us stay with the same accountant for years, even decades, assuming everything is being handled correctly behind the scenes.

Jennifer Evans highlights the benefits of reviewing your accountant and asks whether they’re supporting your business’ growth.

But here’s the reality: just because your accounts are being filed on time doesn’t mean your accountant is actively supporting your business growth. I recently experienced this firsthand. After over 20 years with the same accountant, I made the decision to switch. Within just four months, I learned more about my finances than I had in the previous two decades. So why is it important to review your accountant regularly?

1. Compliance vs. growth

There is a big difference between an accountant who ensures compliance and one who actively supports your business growth. Filing your tax return and submitting VAT returns to the Revenue Commissioner is essential, but it’s the bare minimum.

A proactive accountant should help you understand your numbers. They should provide clear insights into your profit margins, spending and areas for improvement. If you don’t know your gross profit, your break-even point or where your money is going each month, your accountant may not be giving you the full picture.

36

................................................................................................................................................................. Jennifer Evans

2. The power of going digital

One of the biggest changes I noticed after switching accountants was moving to a more digital system. Real-time financial data has completely transformed how I run my business.

Instead of waiting until year-end to understand performance, I can now track everything monthly or even weekly. This allows for quicker decisionmaking, better budgeting and more control over cash flow.

In today’s fast-paced industry, having up-to-date financial information isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions After years with the same accountant, it’s easy to assume everything is “just fine”. When was the last time you asked:

• Am I structured in the best way for tax efficiency?

• Could I be saving more? • Are my prices aligned with my financial goals

If you’re not having these conversations, it may be time to reassess.

3. Navigating big changes like VAT registration

Becoming VAT registered is a significant milestone for many businesses and it can feel overwhelming without the right support. A good accountant doesn’t just process your VAT, they guide you through it. They help you understand pricing, margins and how VAT impacts your overall profitability. They should also support you in planning ahead, rather than reacting after the fact.

5. Reviewing your

accountant is healthy

Changing accountants can feel daunting, especially if you’ve built a long-term relationship. However, reviewing your options doesn’t mean you have to switch, it simply ensures you are getting the best service for your business. Think of it as you would any other area of your business. You wouldn’t keep a treatment, product or system that no longer serves you, so why do it with your finances? Your accountant should be more than just a service provider. They should be a partner in your growth.

And sometimes, the biggest growth comes from asking, is my accountant still the right fit for where my business is now?

Korean Lash Lift...........................................................................................................................................................

The next-gen lash lift K-Beauty is reshaping the traditional lash lift to care as well as curl.

I

In an industry where ‘results’ used to mean maximum curl at all costs, the conversation around lash enhancement has shifted: clients now want impact with integrity. The Korean Lash Lift has arrived at precisely that moment, a method shaped by South Korea’s meticulous approach to natural enhancement and powered by a new wave of gentler bond‑restructuring chemistry.

Here in Ireland, it’s not just another Lash Lift rebrand, the Korean Lash Lift is a service that changes the way we think about product choice, application and even how we sell Lash Lifts. Today treatments are less about drama, more about precision, flexibility and supporting the health of lashes long-term.

What is the Korean Lash Lift?

A Lash Lift, in any form, is a chemical reshaping service: the technician softens Katie Godfrey explains why the hair’s disulphide bonds (the internal being fully bookedshouldn’t bridges that hold shape), moulds the lash always your goal. into a newbe position and then fixes it there.

The hallmark Korean results tend to deliver a smooth, more uniform curl pattern rather than a ‘hinge’ effect at the root, because the method focuses on base direction and controlled shaping.

A cleaner lash separation and a tidier grow‑out can be achieved, especially when technicians prioritise lash mapping and shield pairing rather than a one‑shield‑fits‑all approach. Many systems also promise a softer, glossier ‘natural lashes at their best’ look compared to a bold perm‑style curl. “The Korean Lash Lift differs from traditional lash lifting techniques in its focus on lash health, precision and finish,” explains Joanne Quinn Geoghegan, 38

founder of Beautorium Training Academy (beautoriumtrainingacademy.ie). “It uses gentler, often cysteamine-based systems, combined with advanced wrapping and setting techniques to create a softer, more natural lift while maintaining lash integrity.”

“Clients can expect to see a noticeable lift right from the roots, creating a breathtakingly wide-eyed look,” adds Leisa Roberts, MD and Director of Brow Spa at H Beauty (brow-spa.com). “The longevity and finesse of the curl set the Korean Lash Lift apart, giving a more pronounced and polished appearance that lasts significantly longer than traditional lifts.” In addition to those who prefer the aesthetic delivered by the Korean techniques, the products used mean it is also suited to clients with fine, fragile or previously lifted lashes and those who are sensitive to traditional solutions. In addition, you can achieve results on lashes with stubborn, downward or tricky growth patterns, where starting on a flat shield can help correct direction at the base before the final curl is set.

The Korean technique

Traditional lifting is often curl‑first (wrap onto a curved shield/rod, then process), while Korean lifting is frequently direction‑first (control the base/direction with a flatter tool, then refine).

Many Korean methods are taught as a two‑stage shield approach, often starting with a flat/ultra‑thin ‘Korean’ shield to set direction at the base, then transferring to a shaping shield to refine the curl. In many systems, a ‘glueless’ or minimal‑adhesive workflow is part of the appeal, achieved via tacky lotions, balms or a powder‑lotion mix that increases viscosity and grip.

............................................................................................................................................................ Korean Lash Lift

“The Korean Lash Lift focusses on lash health, precision and finish” – Joanne Quinn Geoghegan

The difference in these two techniques means it’s imperative you upskill with specific training when you’re introducing new cysteamine-based treatments. Choose an AIT-accredited course to easily add the treatment to your AIT insurance policy for no additional cost. Laura Victory (lauravictorylashartist.com), Lash Artist and Educator, offers Korean Lash Lift education in the Glueless Lash Lift Method. Created for lash artists looking for structured guidance on the Korean processing method as well as Lash Lift shield shapes, height and placement, the course will help you to customise every Lash Lift and eliminate flat or underwhelming results.

The products used

Both traditional and Korean lash lifting treatments work by temporarily breaking disulphide bonds in keratin so the lash can be reshaped and set.

Traditional Lash Lifts commonly rely on thioglycolic acid (TGA)/thioglycolates), widely characterised as faster‑acting and often more alkaline in hair restructuring contexts. This is why the risk of over‑processing can increase if a technician misses the timing window. Korean lifting systems are frequently built around cysteamine (often cysteamine HCl), which is widely described as acting more gradually and, in many formulations, at a more moderate pH.

39

Korean Lash Lift...........................................................................................................................................................

“K‑beauty’s influence isn’t just a trend; the Korean Lash Lift is for anyone who wants lifted lashes but worries about dryness, stiffness or an over‑curled look.”

This enables a more flexible processing window, although still requiring strict protocol is followed. It should be noted that cysteamine itself isn’t automatically conditioning; the feel and finish achieved through the Korean treatment often comes from extra ingredients in the formula such as amino acids, hyaluronic acid and glycerine along with aftercare. “For those looking to introduce Korean Lash Lifts into their treatment menu, we always recommend starting with a complete system that’s been specifically designed for the technique,” advises Anna Szilagyi, Head Educator & Product Specialist at LashBase. LashBase (lashbase.co.uk) offers both the Korean Lash Lift Kit and the Lifted. Cysteamine Treatment Bundle, each of which includes everything needed to

40

perform the treatment. Plus you’ll get free access to LashBase’s Online Korean Lash Lift Masterclass.

“Our goal was never just to create another system, but to introduce a new approach to Lash Lifting, inspired by Korean techniques, that makes treatments safer, more controlled and easier for technicians to master,” Anna explains. Alternatively, Salon System’s cysteaminebased formula balances science and care, with the addition of a small, safe level of ethanolamine thioglycolate to ensure reliable, consistent results, along with nourishing collagen and panthenol to strengthen and condition lashes. In addition, Glue Balm is a gentle, messfree alternative to traditional adhesives enabling better control, precise lash positioning and client comfort.

Lisa Stone, Head Educator at Salon System (salonsystem.com), says:

“I love the Salon System cysteamine-based trio products. They provide a gentler yet highly effective treatment that’s compatible with classic, Korean and brow lamination techniques, creating beautifully soft, fluffy and long-lasting lifts. The system performs exceptionally well on even the straightest and most resilient lashes, with a lashloving formulation trusted by professionals for consistently stunning results without compromise or damage.” Training in Salon System’s Korean Style Lash Lift technique is available through local wholesalers.

The Lash Perfect (lashperfect.co.uk) Korean Lash Lift Intro Kit includes a cysteamine-based formula plus all you need to perform the treatment professionally. Plus, when you purchase this kit you’ll receive free access to the Lash Perfect online Korean Lash Lift Masterclass. An in-person accredited course is also available at an additional cost. Supporting precise wrap-and-lift application, Elleebana (elleebana.com) has developed ElleeMIX Powder professional-grade thickening agent to transform Lash Lift emulsions into a creamy texture.

adhesive. It is intended for use in glueless lash techniques where control and placement accuracy are key.

Infused with Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, panthenol, vitamin E, glycerin and botanical oils including sweet almond and jojoba, the formula also conditions lashes during treatment.

Trend or future staple?

K‑beauty’s influence isn’t just a trend, there’s real substance behind it. The reason the Korean Lash Lift is sticking around is simple – it actually fixes the issues many lash artists and clients have struggled with for years. It’s a great option for anyone who wants lifted lashes but worries about dryness, stiffness or an over‑curled look. Plus, it gives lash artists more flexibility to tailor the lift to each client. While the Korean Lash Lift won’t completely replace traditional TGA lifts, it does give you more choice. Match the treatment to your client’s lash type, routine and the overall look they’re after; and remember, that extra level of personalisation means you can price your Korean Lash Lifts as a premium treatment.

By enhancing the viscosity of lifting and setting lotions, ElleeMIX helps prevent runoff and improves adhesion to silicone shields, creating a tacky finish without the need for

g n i l y t S for Summer S

Summer is finally here, and for us nail technicians, that usually means two things: holiday nails and wedding nails.

From bold tropical neons to timeless bridal elegance, Zsuzsanna Varga shares this summer’s nail art trends.

As soon as the temperatures start rising, clients begin thinking about sunshine, holidays abroad, weddings, garden parties and special occasions.

It’s one of the busiest and most creative times of the year in the salon because summer nails can be as subtle or as bold as our clients want them to be. When it comes to holiday nails, bright colours always make a comeback. Neon pinks, vibrant corals, electric blues, lime greens and sunshine yellows are popular choices every year. Some clients love a full neon manicure, while others prefer something a little softer with just a pop of colour.

Neon fades continue to be a favourite because they instantly create that summer feeling without needing complicated nail art. Tropical-inspired designs are also incredibly popular, including palm leaves, hibiscus flowers, exotic fruits and sunset-inspired colour blends. For clients heading to the coast, seaside-inspired nails never go out of fashion. Think ocean blues,

shimmering mermaid effects, shell details, sandy textures and waveinspired nail art.

Mediterranean-inspired designs are also becoming increasingly popular, with beautiful blue-and-white tile patterns inspired by destinations such as Greece and Spain. Of course, not every client wants bright colours. Pastel shades remain a timeless summer option, especially butter yellow, soft peach, baby blue and delicate lilac. These colours give a fresh seasonal look while remaining elegant and wearable for everyday life.

Sophisticated wedding styles Summer is also wedding season and bridal nails deserve special attention. While trends come and go, some styles remain favourites year after year.

French manicures continue to be one of the most requested bridal looks, but modern brides often choose softer versions. Baby Boomer nails, also known as French fade nails, remain incredibly popular because they create a beautiful, elegant transition between pink and white without the harsh smile line of a traditional French manicure.

43

Susanna Vargra................................................................................................................................................................

Soft French designs are another popular choice, offering a delicate and sophisticated look that complements any wedding dress without stealing attention from it. When it comes to bridal nail art, less is often more. Delicate lace details, fine white line work, subtle shimmer, pearl effects and tiny hand painted flowers are all beautiful options. These details add a touch of luxury while keeping the overall look timeless and elegant.

Nails that fit the holiday

Holiday nails aren’t just about colour. I always encourage clients to think about what they’ll actually be doing on holiday. If they’re planning to spend two weeks relaxing by the pool, they might happily wear longer nails than usual, but if they’re heading off on an active holiday packed with walking, sports or outdoor activities, a shorter length is often the more practical choice. The best holiday nails are the ones that fit the holiday as well as the outfit.

Protecting products in a heatwave

As nail technicians, we often spend so much time helping our clients cope with the summer heat that we forget our products can struggle too. Higher temperatures can make gels noticeably thinner and more difficult to control, especially during long, busy salon days.

If your salon doesn’t have air conditioning, try keeping your gel pots and jars on a cool pack between clients. It’s a simple trick, but it can make a huge difference. Working with smaller amounts of product, keeping lids closed and avoiding direct sunlight on your nail desk can also help keep your gels behaving themselves during a heatwave.

Make your work stand out

Summer also brings plenty of opportunities for beautiful nail photography. If you’re photographing your work for social media, don’t be afraid to add a few seasonal props to help tell the story. Seashells, sunglasses, miniature cocktail umbrellas or even a sprinkle of bath salts to mimic sand can instantly create a summer feel and make your images stand out. Whether your clients are preparing for a beach holiday, a destination wedding or simply want to embrace the brighter side of summer, this season offers endless inspiration. From bold tropical neons to timeless bridal elegance, summer nails allow us to showcase creativity while helping our clients feel confident for their special moments. After all, summer memories may fade, but the photos last forever.

Nail Art...........................................................................................................................................................................

Natalia Belc-Dobrzynska (@natalia.bee.nails) shares how to create her beautiful seashell-inspired nail art.

Step #1: After prepping the nails as

usual, apply one coat of your favourite gel polish base colour. I used Nailac Glammy Pink Base. Do not cure.

Step #2: Using contrasting light and

dark gel polish colours, apply a few dots of colour onto the wet base.

Step #3: Using vertical and horizontal

strokes, drag these dots to mix the colours into a satisfactory effect, now’s the time to cure.

Step #4: Add some shiny elements; it

could be foil, glitter, powder or glitter gel.

48

............................................................................................................................................................................ Nail Art

Step #5: Apply matte top coat over the entire nail.

Step #6: Enhance the shell-like design by

adding ridges using a no-wipe builder gel or shine top coat, starting from the free edge and dragging towards the cuticles. Freeze each line to prevent it from spreading. Cure everything for 30 seconds.

Step #7: Now you can add extra elements

like rhinestones, pearls or other decorations.

Step #8: Finish the design with small dots of no

wipe top coat to make the shell look more realistic.

Supplements ........................................................................................................................................................ Beauty Supplements. ......................................................................................................................................................

Nutritional therapist Ros Simmons answers our questions about the rise in wellbeing supplements and ‘beauty-from-within’.

Why are supplements becoming such an important conversation within the professional salon industry?

RS: I think consumers are becoming far more aware that beauty isn’t just about what you look on the outside like it’s also about supporting the body from within. With so much information at our fingertips we’re seeing women, especially, becoming increasingly interested in their energy, stress, sleep, hormonal changes and longevity, because all of those things can impact your skin and hair so it makes sense that they’re looking to their beauty expert for advice. Hair and beauty professionals are often the people clients speak to most openly, so naturally these conversations come up in salons and clinics. 50

Customers want holistic advice and they want to feel looked after during their treatment but with some top tips to take home with them too.

How can beauty and hair professionals talk about supplements responsibly?

RS: The most important thing is to stay within your scope of expertise. Professionals can absolutely talk about wellbeing and the role nutrition can play in supporting healthy skin or hair, but they should avoid making medical claims or suggesting supplements can treat or cure conditions. I always think the best approach is education rather than prescription. It’s about saying: “Here’s what this ingredient is generally known for,” rather than “This will definitely fix your problem.”

It’s also important to remind clients that supplements are designed to support a healthy lifestyle, they’re not a replacement for medical advice, a balanced diet or professional healthcare. However, we do know that people are confused on what to take, so any advice from beauty and hair professionals to help cut through the clutter is helping to give customers great service.

What should professionals look for in a quality supplement?

RS: Transparency is key. Professionals should look for brands that clearly state ingredient levels, sourcing and the science behind their formulations. You will be surprised at how many brands don’t do this!

........................................................................................................................................................Beauty ........................................................................................................................................................BeautySupplements Supplements

I also think it’s important to look at whether dosages are meaningful rather than simply trendy. Sometimes products include fashionable ingredients at levels too low to have any real benefit. We see this a lot. When people say they are taking magnesium to help them sleep, when we look at what they are taking, they often have bought the wrong type of magnesium or at a level that really won’t make any difference. Cheaper products do not mean better when it comes to supplements! For beauty professionals, trust matters enormously. Recommending supplements should feel like an extension of client care, so choosing reputable brands with clear messaging and responsible claims is essential.

Are clients becoming more educated about ingredients?

RS: Definitely. Clients are researching ingredients more than ever before, whether that’s collagen, biotin, NMN, adaptogens or vitamins linked to energy and skin health. But there’s also a huge amount of misinformation online, which is why trusted beauty professionals can play such an important role in simplifying the conversation and helping clients understand what may realistically support them. Consumers don’t necessarily want complicated science explained to them; they want honesty and realistic expectations.

How can salons or clinics introduce supplements without sounding sales-driven?

I think it works best when supplements are positioned as part of a broader wellbeing conversation rather than a hard sell. For example, if a client is talking about feeling tired, stressed, menopausal

or concerned about hair or skin quality, that opens the door naturally to discuss nutrition and supplements that may complement their routine. The key is authenticity. Clients can tell when something is genuinely recommended because it aligns with their concerns versus simply being another retail product on a shelf.

What trends are you seeing within beauty supplements right now? RS: We’re definitely moving beyond “quick fix” beauty supplements into more sophisticated wellness support. Women are increasingly interested in healthy ageing, energy, cognitive wellbeing, sleep support and stress resilience, because all of those areas affect how we look and feel.

There’s also growing demand for formulations that feel premium, science and expert led that easily integrate into everyday life. Ultimately, consumers want products that support vitality and feeling good in their own skin at any age.

Any final advice for beauty professionals discussing supplements with clients?

RS: Keep the conversation informed and realistic. Beauty professionals don’t need to become nutritionists or doctors, but they do have an opportunity to guide clients responsibly by encouraging healthy habits and credible products.

Sometimes simply listening to a client and understanding how they’re feeling is the most valuable part of the conversation. Supplements should support that wider journey, not replace it.
