SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

HOME ALONE (10–12 YEARS)

We will discuss safety issues pertaining to fire safety, basic first aid, internet, strangers as well as many other safety topics. Participants will be empowered to feel safe and confident while home alone.

CREATE & CONNECT

This 8-week program provides a fun, supportive environment for fostering connections and strengthening essential social skills. Participants will engage in games, mindfulness activities, and social-emotional skill development while building new friendships.

GRIEF, LOSS AND HEALING

When we struggle with significant losses (of any kind - death, job changes, moves, the end of a relationship, etc.), the grief can feel overwhelming and cause intense emotions like pain, anger, and helplessness. These reactions are normal, and with support and healthy coping strategies, it is possible to manage our grief and move towards hope again. This 5-week support program will be facilitated by Kim Silverthorn BA, MPCC, CT of Tacit Knowledge.

COURSE WEEK DAY TIME DATES 20897 MON 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. APR 6 – MAY 4

MANAGING CORTISOL LEVELS NATURALLY (18+) ONLINE FCSS – 5817 Rue Eaglemont

- $FREE

Cortisol is an essential stress hormone, but when we have too much (or too little), we can struggle with wide-ranging physical, emotional, and cognitive problems. Because cortisol affects many other brain and body chemicals, learning to manage it naturally (rather than just treating the symptoms with medication) is the key to enjoying long-term wellness. This workshop will be facilitated by Kim Silverthorn BA, MPCC, CT of Tacit Knowledge.

SWIM ABILITIES

30 MINUTES $128.00 FOR 8 CLASSES (PARENTED/SUPERVISED)

Swim Abilities program is for participants with special needs. While this program uses the progressions in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program, the performance criteria for each level have been broken down into smaller, more manageable progressions to create a positive learning environment and make the success of each swimmer more achievable. The progressions have been created to progress swimmers with special needs slowly and at their own rate while adapting the program according to their abilities and needs.

While classes are rated more or less intense, do note that our certified instructors skillfully offer modifications to our fitness classes to adapt to varying fitness levels and physical limitations.

RPE – Rate of Perceived Exertion is based on a scale of 1–10. Rate of perceived exertion is a measure of effort level. A rating of 1 is rest or extremely light exercise, 2–5 ratings reflect easy-moderate exercise, 6–7 is moderate to hard, and a rating of 8–10 is vigorous exercise.

LOW INTENSITY RPE: 2–5

Classes rated as low intensity typically use low impact movements. You are still comfortable performing exercises while challenging yourself, and you can carry a conversation during class.

MODERATE INTENSITY RPE: 6–8

Classes rated as moderate intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises, also can be dependent on the participant’s preferred modifications. Comfort zones are pushed while you are starting to get short of breath and only maintain brief conversation.

HIGH INTENSITY RPE: 8–10

Classes rated as high intensity use variations of both high and low impact exercises reaching very difficult to maintain effort levels. This effort level will make you unable to maintain conversation, and leave you out of breath while pushing your limits!
