eaconFest is a celebration of age and all that’s boomer and senior related, and it just happens to be the biggest boomer and senior fair in the area. If you’re reading this before the show, don’t miss out on the fun— mark your calendars for this year’s BeaconFest Boomer and Senior Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction.

Why attend BeaconFest? Admission is free! This year’s BeaconFest features free food, informative seminars and an exciting lineup of entertainment, including ever-popular bone tree and local legends King ‘N’ Trio. Free seminars will be offered on a range of topics, including estate planning, what to do when you’re downsizing and how to protect yourself from scams.
Feeling lucky? Thousands of dollars worth of door prizes will be given away in free drawings throughout the day. All you have to do is fill out the official door prize entry form included in this here program and drop it in the bucket at the BEACON’s booth. You must be present to win, so walk around or sit back and wait for your chance to win as names are called from the stage. With over 100 prizes to hand out, we’ll be calling out winners every 30 minutes or so. That’s a lot of winning—better odds than the lottery, that’s for sure.

Senior’s Choice Awards I’m always impressed with the wide variety of exhibitors that participate at BeaconFest and the way they market themselves. Some bring just themselves, along with a handful of brochures. Others have booth displays that look like they were made by Disney Imagineers. What’s important is what you think. 9:00 am, Deep Canyon Music bone tree is an acoustic band from the Unaweep Canyon of Western Colorado. They play “deep canyon music,” which is a style of music defined by its members as songs that have the depth of true American music, rebuilt note by note to create an exciting mix. King ‘N’ Trio
Noon, Folk/Americana Since its inception in December 2001, the King ‘N’ Trio has entertained audiences with their enthusiastic, toe-tapping, sing-along music. Band members Chris Unfug, Merritt Kinsey and Terry Toner are members of the Grand Junction Rotary Club and have raised over $200,000 to date for Rotary Foundation, the Avalon Theatre restoration, Mesa County Partners and many other charitable projects. With the help of the Grand Junction Rotary Club, the band has recorded five CDs. Proceeds from CD sales are also part of the band’s fundraising efforts.
Javier de los Santos Danny Agajanian & The Hallelujah Band
10:00 am, Bluegrass/Ragtime Danny Agajanian plays a mix of bluegrass, ragtime and Civil Warera music. Once a warm-up artist for Billy Graham, he has toured with many performers and has played in many venues in Las Vegas, across the U.S. and Canada, including churches, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, the Golden Nugget, the Grand Ole Opry and more. He has lived in Grand Junction for over 25 years.
Desert Moon
11:00 am, Country/Rock Brian Limper and Greg Campbell are the founders of Desert Moon, a country-rock quartet born in Grand Junction. When performing as a duo, they perform songs the full band plays as well as those better suited for intimate occasions. The flavor of their selections leans toward a countrified rock sound that pays tribute to their musical heroes, including Willie Nelson, Gene Clark, Gram Parsons and The Rolling Stones.

Javier de los Santos has performed extensively in the U.S., Mexico, Spain and Brazil. Past performances include playing with Pepe Romero and Romero’s Guitar Quartet at the Celedonio Romero Guitar Institute in Oklahoma City, and being a soloist with the Grand Junction and Boulder Symphony Orchestras. Javier is founder of Mariachi San Jose, president and artistic director of the Western Colorado Classical Guitar Society and music director at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He currently lives in Grand Junction and teaches guitar at Independence Academy Charter School and gives private lessons at Colorado Mesa University.

2:00 pm, Guitar Favorites/Sound Manager Equipped with his trusty guitar, Ron Koss is dynamic. Whether he’s entertaining with Americana rock favorites, country melodies or swing tunes, just about anything he plays has audiences singing along and brings them to their feet. Beth Williams is an Academy of Country Music nominee for Best New Female Vocalist of the Year and has been a professional musician since 1973. Owner of HCRecording Studio in Cedaredge, she has recently launched a special service for boomers and seniors called “Lasting Legacy,” which offers a relaxing atmosphere to sing to a music track, tell a story, play piano, or sing while Beth accompanies on guitar. 10:00 am, Country Peggy Malone is known locally for her work with seniors. As an active member of the Western Music Association and bearing the title of the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame’s 2016 Female Vocalist of the Year, Peggy strives to keep cowboy music alive and well. Her shows thrive on audience participation with her maracas and “stick hosses.” Her songs range from classic country to pop. Years ago, she won the Patsy Cline Sing Alike Contest at the Regency Hotel in Denver. Two of her songs have received widespread attention. “Appaloosa, Running Through My Mind” was adopted as the Appaloosa Horse Club’s song in Moscow, Idaho. “Singin’ a Cowboy Song” won a Heartland Regional Emmy and is featured in the PBS Special, “A Night at the Rodeo.”
James Cameron 11:00 am, Bagpipes
James Cameron started bagpiping in 2004. He enjoys participating in solo competitions as well as bagpipe band competitions. He is a member of the Wasatch & District Pipe Band out of Salt Lake City. He is a retired pilot of 41 years. He moved to Grand Junction in December 1976, married and has two wonderful children.
