Readers’ Choice 2019 Celebrates the Evolution of Communication
F
or this year’s Readers’ Choice publication, we commend the colossal changes in the way we communicate today — compared with a few short years ago. Readers’ Choice 2019 is the annual tip-of-the-hat, if you will, to local tradesmen and women, selected by our readers as the FAVORITE in their chosen profession. This year’s theme, as you will duly note, pays homage to the progression of the various ways in which we communicate, that many have described as truly a digital revolution. From the extraordinary “Power of the Press,” (last year’s theme) we now shift our focus to how all other forms of media (radio, television and now the internet) played a vital role in developing how we now connect, communicate and do business with one another. The digital revolution has not only made an impact on our world throughout the years but also on our local communities. With Facebook/ Twitter and countless other forms of instant communication via social media, we are now able to interconnect like never before.
For the past 22 years, Beacon Media News — publisher of Arcadia Weekly, Monrovia Weekly, Pasadena Independent, and Sierra Madre Weekly (AMPS) — has brought local communities insightful, thoughtful coverage on news, education, arts & entertainment, events, high school sports, and community leaders via print. Now we can do it just a little faster and reach more people than ever before thanks to the remarkable digital tools each of us possesses. Print will always be with us (we hope) but technology continues to evolve, rapidly. So who knows what the next 20 years will show us? For those of us Baby Boomers, if you had told us in the 1980s that we’d be walking around with a mobile phone with access to anywhere/thing in the world via the internet, we would have said “you’re absolutely crazy.” Alas, here we are and we don’t even need maps anymore. Los Tacos Los Tacos restaurant is owned by Fidel and Martha Leos. Los Tacos was established in 1986 and Fidel was the first person to bring soft shell tacos, a traditional Mexican dish, to the Pasadena area. Currently, Los Tacos has a location in Pasadena and serves authentic Mexican cuisine in a clean and friendly atmosphere. Fidel has been in the restaurant business for 40 years and prides himself in serving others. Previous to opening Los Tacos, he was the maitre d’ at Maldonado’s Supper Club, a four star restaurant in Pasadena where he developed a palate for fine foods and wines. After the birth of his first daughter, Diana, Fidel decided to open Los Tacos restaurant where he fused his knowledge of fine foods and the traditional recipes he learned from his parents and memories of his childhood in Mexico. Lifeline for Pets was formed in 1981 upon the joining of forces of Lynne Jordan and Midge Poynter, two devoted Pasadena-based animal rescuers. They were incorporated in California in 1982 with the aim to rescue animals that would lead lives of misery or not survive.
