HIGH TEMPS SPARKS ‘SPRINKS’ FIRE IN DUARTE

emple deputies and LA County Fire responded to 1 1/2 acre #Spinksfire #roadclosure @Sunnyvale, Vinyard and Encanto Parkway area of Duarte Monday afternoon. No homes were damages and no injuries reported. Excessive heat is always a bad sign for firefighters, but this early in the season is unusual for brushfires. However, fire personnel have prepared and responded extremely quickly to quell the incident before it consumed any homes. CDF and Los Angeles County Fire helicopters made several drops to assist the firefighters on the ground and the fire was out in an hour and half. The small wildfire was first reported around 3:30 p.m. Los Angeles County Fire estimated the blaze burned about one and a half acres before it was extinguished after 5 p.m. Officials said no structures were damaged. The cause of the two small fires remain under investigation.

MONROVIA DAYS RECAP – IT WAS AS SPLENDID AS EVER Hundreds of Monrovian’s showed their civic pride this past weekend and enjoyed the Monrovia Days festivities which included a parade, carnival and lots of fun activities for children of all ages. While the parade was much smaller than in years past, it was no less enthusiastically welcomed. Even the partially restored Seagrave 1917 fire engine made the route without a hiccup. THE MONROVIA OLD TOWN REPORT Pam FITZPATRICK |

I dropped by City Hall this morning to pay my business license, so I’m legal – whew! And, while I was there I did some checking on upcoming changes to Old Town. Here’s what I found… Today, according to our Planning Department, is the final City inspection for our newest bakery (which replaces our oldest bakery). And, since “Frost” already has their Health Department approval, if they pass today’s test, permit-wise they are good to open. I even drove past the location at 506 S. Myrtle, and I saw an anxious-looking lady dressed in a baker’s outfit, standing on the sidewalk in front, probably waiting for the

inspector to show up. Maybe we’ll see Frost open for business in a few days! Then, in checking with our Business License Department, I learned the name of the new café set to open in the spot vacated by Parchment (425 S. Myrtle). “Grey & Cash” is proposing to open for breakfast and lunch, but the business license is the only paper trail I could find. They’re not on the Planning Commission agenda yet and haven’t applied for a sign permit, so we’ll wait for them to announce the final business name. Copper Still Grill at 608 S. Myrtle is still SEE PAGE 13
