asadena has renewed efforts to improve the efficiency of transportation throughout the city for pedestrians, motorists, and cyclists alike. At their latest regular meeting, the city council approved six infrastructurerelated projects that will improve roads, bicycle pathways, and the accessibility of city parks. Motorists will soon feel the benefits of an upgraded intelligent transportation system that utilizes an integrated fiber optic network to manage congestion within the city, specifically along the I-210 Freeway. Council approved a $2.14 million contract with DVX Inc.

to complete the citywide fiber optic traffic communications system that is theoretically capable of redirecting drivers in case of traffic congestion. According to city staff’s report, the system will obtain real time data from existing sensors along the I-210 and then use the information to guide drivers towards “predetermined routes” via “dynamic message signs” along the freeway. Drivers will be “diverted and guided off the” congested freeway onto local street corridors. Additional signage will then redirect motorists back onto the freeway once congestion has cleared up. Pasadena Police Department Reminds Citizens to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over This Labor Day The end of summer is traditionally marked by the Labor Day holiday, a time for our country to reflect on the hard work of our fellow Americans. The long weekend is celebrated through picnics, pool parties, and barbecues, as families and friends enjoy the last few days of summer before fall and winter approach. Sadly, the Labor Day holiday is also one of the deadliest, with alcohol and drug impaired drivers endangering themselves and others on

America’s roadways. This year, Pasadena PD is partnering with police, Sheriffs and the CHP across the state to stop impaired drivers and help save lives. TREE FALLS ON CHILDREN AT PASADENA DAY CARE CENTER One child has been reported critically injured A 2-year-old girl is improving slightly after being hit by a falling Eucalyptus tree at a Pasadena DayCare Center on Tuesday around noon, according to Pasadena Fire spokeswoman. Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department

said the 2-year-old girl was trapped under the branch and suffered initial critical injuries. Two other children, ages 3 and 4, were also hurt slightly. All were transported to Huntington Hospital. The incident occurred in the 1200 block of Linda Vista Avenue, at Linda Vista Chil-
