From the opening public comment portion, all the way to the continued public hearing on the city’s operating budget near the end of the agenda, Monday’s city council meeting saw discussions revolve around affordable housing and homelessness. Following the recent 2017 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count’s report that the county’s homeless population has increased 23 percent in the past year and the Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Ridley-Thomas’ subsequent call to action, it was clear that council members had the city’s most vulnerable individuals fresh on their minds. During public comment, local attorney Richard McDonald alerted council to an issue he said, “started out as a small problem, but now [is] a serious problem.” McDonald claims that several multimillion dollar developments, specifically potential affordable housing projects,

La Serna High Senior Dies Near Hermit Falls in Sierra Madre Sources tell Beacon Media that 18-yearold Jeremy St. Julian died Tuesday night while hiking with friends above Sierra Madre. According to reliable sources, Julian was due to graduate Wednesday from La Serna High in Whittier. He died when he fell approximately 100 feet, near Hermit Falls in the Chantry Flat area of the Angeles National Forest Tuesday evening around 7 p.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team and Sierra Madre Search and Rescue responded to the incident along with paramedics who pronounced the 18-year-old dead at the scene.

1984 Olympic Silver Medalist Charged with Child Abuse A former Olympic silver medalist been charged with reaching out to a teen girl for sexual purposes over two months. Danny Lee Harris of Pasadena has been charged with six counts in case GA101246: two counts each of contact with minor for sexual offense, child abuse and child annoyance. Harris was arraigned Tuesday in Department of the Los Angeles County
