Schiff, Garvey head for November runoff in race for Feinstein's Senate seat By City News Service
D
emocratic Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican former Dodger Steve Garvey were preparing Wednesday for a November runoff election after topping a crowded field of candidates looking to claim the U.S. Senate seat previously held by the late Dianne Feinstein. Schiff, D-Burbank, led the way among the more than two dozen candidates seeking the seat, with Garvey placing second. Rep. Katie Porter, D-Irvine, was a distant third, and Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, placed fourth. Many pundits were anticipating a Schiff-Garvey runoff, with most believing it could result in an easy Schiff victory in heavily Democratic California as they fight for a full six-year term in the Senate.

Schiff and Garvey will actually appear twice on the November ballot, with both also seeking to fill out the remainder of Feinstein's term, which ends in January.
Schiff claimed victory at a Hollywood rally Tuesday night, but his speech was interrupted by protesters who loudly chanted "Cease fire now" and "Free Pales-
tine." While security officials dragged some protesters out of the room, seemingly dozens of others remained, persistently chanting and forcing Schiff to try to speak

The program attracted over 2,500 applications, with 125 individuals selected to participate in the pilot program. Eligible participants were female heads of household (no spouse present) with children under 18 years of age, experiencing economic strain due to COVID-19, El Monte residents, and with a verified household income at or below the poverty level based on U.S. Department of Commerce thresholds. over the din. He appeared to eventually cut his remarks short due to the disruption, but he
was able to thank supporters and his family. "It looks like we're going to the general, ladies and gentlemen," Schiff said. "So a little over a year ago we kicked off this campaign and I won't say it wasn't without its bumps along the way. I seem to recall, although it's a little hazy, within hours of our announcement a certain Kevin McCarthy kicked me off the Intelligence Committee. ... And then at the urging and badgering of Donald Trump, the Republicans censured me for holding him accountable. ... And then Trump would attack me after rally after rally. ... "But you had my back every step of the way, every step of the way. You helped

Masters of Taste marks its 7th year at Rose Bowl May S. Ruiz

asters of Taste (MoT), L.A.’s premier food and beverage festival, returns to the 50-yard line of Pasadena’s Rose Bowl on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m. Celebrating its seventh year raising funds for Union Station Homeless Services (Union Station), the event brings together 100 restaurateurs and beverage company owners to serve food and drinks to approximately 3,000 attendees. The brainchild of Rob and Leslie Levy, owners of The Raymond 1886 and Knox & Dobson in Pasadena, Masters of Taste was a concept Rob adapted from a childhood friend’s organization in Chicago called “Inspiration Café,” which delivers sandwiches to the homeless. When the former CEO of Union Station asked him to be on the board, he set out to find a better way to raise funds than asking people to get all dressed up to attend a gala they only felt obligated to attend. Leslie came up with the idea of having chefs gather for an event that was so amazing it didn’t feel like it was a charity affair. On Feb. 28, 2024, Masters of Taste held its media night in the locker room of the Rose Bowl. See Masters of Taste Page 32
