Coachella Valley roads continue to reopen following flooding from Hilary storm By City News Service

rews continued working across the Coachella Valley Tuesday to clear roads of mud and debris left behind by Tropical Storm Hilary, with several routes reopening. Mud inundated some streets in Cathedral City near Date Palm Drive, and video from the scene Monday showed multiple vehicles trapped in the muck. The mud also pushed against multiple homes, but the extent of damage to those homes was unclear. Cleanup efforts Tuesday included clearing the northbound lanes of Date Palm Drive, with a goal of having three lanes cleaned, swept and opened by Wednesday afternoon, according to Cathedral City Communications & Events Manager Ryan Hunt. Crews also worked to clean Avenida La Vista from Los Gatos to Adelina Road, Adelina Road from Horizon Road to Date Palm, Panorama Road to Horizon Road and Horizon Road to Vista Chino.

Palm Springs city officials shared photos Monday of Indian Canyon Drive and Vista Chino, which were both fully engulfed in mud at some

sections. By Tuesday afternoon, Vista Chino between Clubhouse View Drive and Carmela Drive reopened,

according to the Palm Springs Police Department. South El Cielo Road and South Farrell Drive between East Ramon and Mesquite reopened

Monday morning along with outbound Highway 111 to westbound Interstate 10, and Golf Club and Araby drives at the wash.

In Rancho Mirage, Country Club Drive reopened, while Frank Sinatra and Parkview drives opened one lane in both directions Tuesday. The intersection of Cook Street and Gerald Ford in Palm Desert was partially reopened Tuesday, city official said. The westbound outer lane of Dinah Shore Drive and westbound lanes of Parkview Drive from Joshua Road to Highway 111 were also opened, according to city officials. Roads that reopened Monday were southbound Washington Street at Harris Street as well as Fred Waring Drive lanes at Warner Trail, California Drive, and three lanes — two westbound and one eastbound — at the wash. Hemet police officer accused of assaulting a woman during an arrest, inflicting major head trauma, pleaded not guilty Monday to assault resulting in great bodily injury and other offenses. Jacob Alan Hobson, 29, was arrested last week following a Force Investigation Detail Task Force probe, relying on Riverside County District Attorney's Office and sheriff's personnel. In addition to the assault with great bodily injury count, Hobson is charged with two counts of assault under color of authority and sentence- enhancing allegations of causing the victim to become comatose. He was arraigned before Superior Court Judge Joshlyn Pulliam, who scheduled a

Interstate 10 was closed Monday until around 2 p.m. from Date Palm Drive to Bob Hope Drive. The closure was due to mudslides in the eastern Coachella Valley, according to California Highway Patrol spokesman Jason Montez.
