TO LIMIT HEIGHT OF NEW DEVELOPMENTS

Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced over the weekend that after some discussion about a possible transfer to the city of Pasadena, the County of Los Angeles will retain ownership of the Eaton Canyon Golf Course, and will work to ensure that the facility is maintained at the highest possible standard. The news comes on the heels of publicity in this newspaper and other local media where scores of residents came together as a newfound grassroots organization determined to save the golf course. While locally the Pasadena Tenants Union (PTU) drew short the number of signatures needed to get on the ballot, now the grassroots organization, as well as other concerned groups, is positioning that energy towards the statewide initiative in November. In 1995 "the real estate industry targeted California for increases in rents. Passage of Costa Hawkins was an important component in this strategy. t their latest regular meeting, the Pasadena City Council considered implementing an interim ordinance to reduce the maximum allowable height for multi-family and mixed-use developments city-wide. Although in the end, after more than a dozen public speakers and considerable discussion the Council was left with more questions than answers and the item was postponed for further
