onrovia Weekly was recently invited to experience a celebrated Kiwanis meeting at the Monrovian Restaurant by the unofficial Mayor of Monrovia, Hal Leavens. Having been to a few meetings in Sierra Madre

and Arcadia in years past, I thought it was about time I witnessed Monrovia Kiwanis in action. The meeting includes some fun traditions but moreover they have a guest speaker who is usually quite entertaining and insightful. I was lucky enough to be seated with many movers and shakers in the community including two esteemed SEE KIWANIS PAGE 11

British scientist, Liam Kennedy, recently visited MHS and brought forth the ISS (International Space Station) live into Pam Thompson’s astronomy class at Monrovia High. It is technology and community partnerships like this with Kennedy that help nurture the Math and Science Academy and put Monrovia High school on a higher academic map.
