The 5th annual Monrovia Music Fest is back June 3 from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Library Park. The event features a vast array of regional and national music throughout the day. The Fest features a craft beer garden, food trucks,

On the last Sunday of every month, Ron Ross puts together a program of some of the most talented musicians anywhere to share their love of the Ragtime genre. Ragtime, a uniquely American, syncopated musical phenomenon, has been a strong presence in musical composition, entertainment, and scholarship for over a century. It emerged in its published form during the mid-1890s and quickly

spread across the continent via published compositions. By the early 1900s ragtime flooded the music publishing industry. The popularity and demand for ragtime also boosted sales of pianos and greatly swelled the ranks of the recording industry. Ragtime seemed to emanate primarily from the Southern and Midwestern states with the majority of activity occurring in Missouri -- although the East and West coasts also had their share of composers

he Monrovia Fire Department (MFD) is so much more than a reactive government entity. The men and women of MFD are committed to helping mitigate risks for all in the community with education of the dangers that could affect you and your home in the event of a wildfire. One of the biggest concerns, according to Monrovia Fire Chief Brad Dover, is embers from fast, wind driven fires that could result in more structure fires if roofs and eaves are full of tinder such as dead

leaves. On Thursday, Chief Dover led a group of local journalists on a tour of high risk areas such as Norumbega Drive where last December an arsonist set a fire that could have been devastating to Monrovia had it not been for the extremely rapid response from Monrovia Fire and other local fire departments, in addition to County fire air support with water-dropping helicopters. Luckily, that arsonist was caught and prosecuted thanks to exhaustive investigations. The department visited with local residents and inspected several homes, with the consent of the SEE WILDFIRE DANGERS PAGE 11
