On Tuesday, May 15 Arcadia City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto presented the City’s FY 18-19 budget, launching a robust public discussion regarding vital City services. “As always, the City is committed to continuing its work towards maintaining public safety and the quality of services Arcadia residents expect and deserve,” accord-
ing to the release. The FY 18-19 budget maintains existing levels of public services, but apparently the City can no longer guarantee that services will remain at current levels over the long-term. “Due to recent changes in state law and other fiscal constraints, the City’s proposed budget has a structural deficit of nearly $3.1 SEE DEFICIT PAGE 12

On the morning of May 19, dozens of people gathered at the Arcadia Public Library and waited patiently under a canopy and gloomy sky. The people talked in low mumbles, waiting to be ushered into the auditorium, where 20 tables provided a close-proximity platform to double the amount of attorneys to give free legal advice. This is Arcadia’s annual Law Day. This year’s Law Day was a partnership between

ene Glasco enlisted in the United States navy in 1967. He was deployed to South Vietnam’s Mekong Delta in 1969. Gene is a native Californian. Once in Vietnam, Gene was first assigned to Naval Support Activity- Nha Be as a Radioman in the communications center.
It’s been almost two years since a tractor and double-bed trailer from Redding, delivered the eleven-ton concrete and bronze Arcadia Vietnam War Monument to the Arcadia County Park. The ever so humble Gene Glasco told Arcadia Weekly Tuesday, that this project is not about him. However, without him the monument to honor local Vietnam Veterans might never have be completed. the city and the Arcadia Chinese Association. Members of the ACA wore green vests and staffed the event along with city representatives like Vanessa Guerra, an administrative intern for the City Manager’s office. Guerra came early to set up. She arranged the sign-in area under the canopy. She arranged pamphlets and set up tables. When the volume of prospective clients became too much, Guerra helped with the flow of citizens to attorneys. Among the attorneys
the event will be held on Saturday, May 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Arcadia County Park. This is an opportunity to listen to veterans sharing their talent as well as for other veterans to find new opportunities and SEE MEORIAL DAY PAGE 13
