What is Cinco de Mayo?
T
here are chapters in history that describe a country’s action of honor, courage, and resistance. Times set to be worthy enough to be written for history books, or make you feel proud about where your ancestors come from after learning their true story . Although Cinco de Mayo is not quite a popular holiday in Mexico, in the United States it has become a day on which we celebrate Mexican heritage and its culture.
Cinco de Mayo, may not be so much observed in Mexico, is still an important date in their history books. On May 5th, 1862, an outnumbered Mexican Army defeated the French Army led by Napoleon III in the city of Puebla calling it “La Batalla de Puebla”. Perris Traffic Collision Claims The Life Of 74-Year-Old Man Officers from the Perris Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Perris Blvd and Walnut St, in the city of Perris. The preliminary investigation showed a motorist, a 74-year-old resident
of Grand Terrace, was travelling eastbound on Walnut St and came to a stop at the intersection of Perris Blvd. The motorist attempted to cross traffic and drive northbound on Perris Blvd when he was struck by a motorist
travelling southbound Perris Blvd. The 74-year-old driver sustained major injuries, was transported to a local hospital, and died from his injuries. The motorist See Page 5

Long Beach Man Sentenced For Kidnapping, Sexually Assaulting Two Girls, Woman
Samuel Vasquez, a 31-year-old Long Beach resident, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for kidnapping two teenage girls and raping a 20-yearold woman in assaults spanning a one-month period. Vasquez was sentenced
by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mildred Escobedo. The defendant was found guilty in February of two counts of kidnapping, three counts of forcible rape and one count each of forcible oral copulation and assault with a deadly weapon.
Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear of the Sex Crimes Division prosecuted the case. Vasquez kidnapped a 16-year-old girl at knifepoint as she walked in South Los Angeles on Sept. 27, See Page 5
