lendale Fire Department units with assistance from the Burbank Fire Department responded to reports of a garage fire on, 1538 Garden St. The Glendale Police Department air unit immediately notified incident commander Battalion Chief Jeff Ragusa that there were also energized wires down on the property. The first-in company arrived to find a detached two-car garage in the rear of the home fully engulfed in flames. Fortunately, all of the residents were able to evacuate safely. Glendale Water and Power also reported on scene to secure the downed wires between the home and the garage. The aggressive flames caused the roof of the garage to collapse, which resulted in intensive overhaul operations. Fire-

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER DETONATING EXPLOSIVE IN SAM’S CLUB ONTARIO Ontario Police Responded to a possible fire structure at 951 N Milliken Ave Thursday. It has been determined the suspect detonated a small explosive device in the store. Ontario PD and Ontario Fire responded and it appears there is no structural damage or any injuries at this point. All employees and customers are accounted for. The suspect has been identified as Hugo
Gonzalez DOB 12/26/68, who lives in the City of Fontana. At this point, investigators believe that Gonzalez acted alone. At this point, investigators are unaware of any additional devices and worked throughout the night to locate any evidence. Ontario Bomb Squad personnel have deter-

Residents Urged to Nominate Riverside for $20,000 Grant in Earth Month of April For the fourth year in a row, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is collaborating with The Walt Disney Company to help fund local park improvement projects across the country through the national “Meet Me at the Park” Earth Month campaign. The city that receives the most nominations will receive a $20,000 grant to improve a local park.
Riverside residents can nominate their city by visiting NRPA.org/Disney through the month of April. At the end of the month, the city with the most nominations will receive the grant funding. Everyone who nominates a city will be entered into a drawing for a GoPro Prize Pack.

ANAHEIM FIREWORKS LOTTERY APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE Nonprofits are encouraged to apply for the 2018 fireworks sales lottery. Eight nonprofits will be selected at random to operate booths and sell fireworks this year.
Deadline to apply is April 20 at 5 p.m. In the spirit of fairness, the winners of last year's lottery are ineligible to apply this year, but may apply again in 2019.
Long Beach Public Library Launches ‘Dive Into Reading’ for National Library Month April is National Library Month; and this year’s theme chosen by the American Library Association is “Libraries Lead.” Long Beach Public Library is celebrating all the ways libraries lead in the community by launching its newest early literacy initiative, “Dive into Reading,” specifically for families with children ages five and under. The goal of the initiative is simple: parents and guardians strive to read 1,000 books with their child before the start of kindergarten. “Our goal is to equip young readers and their families to develop a lifelong
love of reading and reinforce parents and caregivers as the first teachers in their child’s life,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “As ‘Dive into Reading’ challenges parents and caregivers to regularly read with their children, the Library will be a source of early literacy development with free workshops, educational resources, and expert knowledge.” Reading together helps children develop crucial early literacy skills, such as increasing letter knowledge, vocabu-
