MONROVIA’S ROB HAMMOND RIDES FOR YOU

Since 1996

Volume 22, NO. 13

Monrovia’s New Water Rates Now in Effect On Tuesday, January 16, 2018, the City Council held a Public Hearing to consider the proposed adjustments to water rates in order to pay for the new pass-through water production costs related to the ongoing drought conditions in the region. These fees are being levied on the City by the Main San Gabriel Basin Watermaster (Watermaster) and the Upper San Gabriel Valley

Municipal Water District (Upper District) in order to address the water supply shortage in the Main San Gabriel Basin following the historic, decade-long drought. Instituting these fees allowed the Watermaster to purchase 40.7 billion gallons at a cost of over $100 million to replenish the groundwater aquifer that supplies our region, SEE WATER RATES PAGE 10

n April 1st Rob Hammond, the clerk of the Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education will leave San Diego for Florida. This is would not be noteworthy except for his mode of transportation and the reason for the journey. He will be traveling by bicycle and raising funds for the PTAs at Monrovia Schools.

His six and a half week trip across the southern states is the second long distance ride for this local businessman and former Monrovia Mayor has undertaken. Four years ago he rode from Canada to the Mexican Border, a journey of 1,688 miles. According to Hammond that trip was a personal challenge. Now he intends to take on a ride of almost twice that distance and this time with an admirable goal: raising money for the PTAs in Monrovia. As Rob wrote on his website, “I SEE RIDING PAGE 10
